Topic: Haunting Tunes

Sup.
i own a Canadian made semi electric 'Seagull'. It has a really "Haunting" sound when played right.
that is the (for want of a better definition) style of music i like. (Haunting)
an example would be "Romance De Armor" a great classical song, one of my favorites.

can anyone recommend any good 'Haunted' like tunes?
preferably classical tunes.

Thanks

Re: Haunting Tunes

JAckal,
I hope this works! If it does please give it a listen all the way through at least once.
O GOD THOU ART THE FATHER.This is a very haunting song to me . I've included some of the history of the song to show that it should be public domain. It is on an album I have called Irish Hymns.
Enjoy and let me know what you think.  AL

Columba is for ever associated with Iona where in 563 he established a Celtic monastery that came to be a light in the Dark Ages. Of princely Scots-Irish background and notable for earlier establishing Christian centres in Ireland, he is thought to have left Ireland, with 12 followers, as a result either of political pressure or simply as some kind of penance. Iona became famous as a sanctuary, as a school for scholars, as a centre for the production of illuminated manuscripts, and above all for its missionary outreach – the formidable Columba himself penetrating to the heartland of the Northern Picts in what is Inverness. Many monks of Iona were to travel to England and across to the continent, e.g. St. Gall in Switzerland and Bobbio in Italy, spreading the Gospel. Though his fame is in part due to Adomnan’s biography, there is little doubt that Columba is the most recognisable and notable figure in early Christianity in the land. Two hymns, Christ is the world’s redeemer and O God, Thou art the Father, attributed to him, express the distinctive Christ-centred theology, with its quality of universalism and its resonance with nature, that is characteristic of Celtic monasticism and that still has much appeal today. He died in 597 in the midst of copying Psalm 34.

Re: Haunting Tunes

Nights in White Satin, Moody Blues.  I have always thought of this song as a haunting love song.

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: Haunting Tunes

Mark Knopfler has done some pretty haunting songs.  I can't remember the title(s) but, one tune in particular has stuck in my head.

"Lay me down" by Crosby and Nash is another tune I consider quite haunting in the melody and the lyrics.

Re: Haunting Tunes

I'm not sure if this is what you're after but it doesn't get more haunting than Clannad - Theme from Harry's Game!

Welcome to Chordie!

Have a listen to Turquoise Galleon by Govi.... Nice piece of "classical" sounding acoustic music.  Just a real beast to try to find sheet music for.  Youtube for the recording.  Still trying to find music myself for him, and my ear is not that good to just "sound it out".

Enjoy;

Re: Haunting Tunes

You can't get more "haunting" than "The Parting Glass" ( see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhJp0W0ku2w for a rather Scottish version of it ).

Deadstring, I think you are mixing together Columba ( Columbcille) and Columbanus. Both lived in Ireland around the same time. Columba was exiled for copying a bible and thereby causing a war. It was Columbanus who sent Missionaries out across Europe to St Gall, Bobbio etc from his Monastery in Bangor ( just a few miles down the road from here). So we Irish taught yiz all how to read.

Re: Haunting Tunes

On an Irish theme "She Moves Through the Fair." (Includes a ghost: how's that for haunting.)

"Spancil Hill."

Re: Haunting Tunes

Wicked Game by Giant Drag. More of a telecaster type song, but not bad acoustically either.

But, here's the secret about the guitar: It's defiant. It will never let you conquer it. The more that you get involved with it, the more you realize how little you know.

Re: Haunting Tunes

How about  'Ghosts' by Japan from the 80s
or 'Song to the Siren' by This Mortal Coil
but 'Theme from Harry's Game' by Clannad is king!
