I can't wait to transfer my gear over to it tonight and test it out.
It already fits my hand waaaaaaaaaaaay better than the neck that was on the guitar when I bought it.

I just dropped some bills on one of these. It's getting installed in the guitar as we speak, should be ready by tomorrow.

It's a Seymour Duncan JB SH-4...the same bridge pickup that Eddie Van Halen, Adam Jones and various other professional rockers use.
I'm dying to play with this thing...OMG...this is going to give me that crunch that I've been searching for that I haven't been able to get from effect pedals. Heck, after I get this installed I can probably use my DS-1 again without having to worry about modding it. I can finally give my BD-2 a break lol...

But...in case the DS-1 still sucks tone, I've got my eye on one of these...

The VOX SATCHURATOR!!!!
I tried this pedal out in the store and it's got great tone, lots of low end too and none of that shrilly ear-splitting thin distortion. This pedal actually does distortion and overdrive quite well. I may get it and sell both my boss pedals...lol.

Well, I can't wait to post a video of the sounds of the JB SH-4 on my youtube page.
I'm on pins and needles...

Excellent.  Getting and playing with new equipment is a blast.

In a similar vein, I broke in a couple fly rods yesterday.

Does new strings count? That's all I can stretch to just now.

Is anything really made up of zeros and ones??

Re: WOOHOO!!! What an AWESOME Friday!!!!!

Is it easier to restring a guitar or a fly rod?

I have finally found happiness in my life.  Guitars, singing, beer and camping.  And they all intertwine wonderfully.

Re: WOOHOO!!! What an AWESOME Friday!!!!!

1. The new neck is much more sensitive to truss rod adjustment. I didn't have to wait 30 minutes between adjustments. It was more like 5. The frets on the new neck are taller and much more effective for my thinner fingers. When I press down on the strings, none of the strings are muffled. Fingerstyle or chords come out perfectly without and dead strings! The new neck also doesn't fret-out after the 18th fret like the old neck. The finish on the new neck is also a LOT smoother/faster and the size of the neck is consistent from the headstock to the heel! It fits my hand sooooooo perfectly!!! I transferred my locking tuners and my graph-tec nut to the new neck as well. Had to do some drilling but all went well.

2. The new Seymour Duncan sh-4 pickup....
OMG...I can't describe how alive this pickup has made my guitar. First, this pickup is like a tube-amp in your guitar. No, wait, its like the boss dyna drive pedal inside your guitar. By that, I mean that the pickup is dynamically sensitive to your picking! Pick soft...you have a normal sound. The harder you pick, the more breakup/distortion you get from the pickup! I have never experienced this before. Its so amazing! The awesome thing about the sh-4 is that at the 3/4 point on my volume control and up, it seems to control the amount of distortion of the pickup as the volume seems to max out at the 3/4 point. Its awesome and is like having a separate gain control in addition to my pedals and amp! I have gotten some STP and foo fighters tones so far. Marked them down in my notepad for later hehe..,
And the sustain! Oh my goodness the sustain! Notes ring so clearly and long now. I can do a Hendrix style grip and hit the low E string and then do chordal or lead work without the E string's note decaying before I finish. The other kewl thing is that I can now do pinch harmonics sooooo easy. Before I could get the squealie to happen once every 10 tries. Now I can get it EVERY...SINGLE....TIME!! Its amazing!! I was playing every zakk wylde riff I could copy off of youtube earlier today.
Oh! The pickup matches the Kent Armstrong pup that's in the neck on my '51 WAAAAAAAAAAAY better than the GFS pup that was in the bridge before. Now the outputs are more even. The sh-4 just barely comes out over the KA pup and gives the middle position that warm quack with a little growl on the high end. Splitting the bridge pup in the middle position gives a tone that is like baby skin wrapped in velvet wrapped in microfiber Liz Claiborne cloth. Its just sweet!

I have only tested the new setup with my line-6 spider 112 so far (headphone capability hehe) cause the wife was home. I will have more to report tomorrow after church and some videos on Monday night.

Re: WOOHOO!!! What an AWESOME Friday!!!!!

Working on it.
Was planning on taking some pictures last night but that got shot down.
I am hoping that the wife will be at school longer than expected so I can take more than 1 video tonight.

Okay, have some pics of the updated hardware.
(I used a different host that provides clickable thumbnails so that it's not such a tax on the bandwidth of viewers...)

I installed my tuners kinda laid back so that I can reach them easier when tuning. Gives it a different look I think..
