Re: HELP PLEASE

list the lyrics here,, and the chord structure,, and an idea of the melody if possible,,  is it possible to hear what your on about,, a midi file perhaps?

Re: HELP PLEASE

I still get days like this, when everything i write is rubbish, or i write one verse and a chorus then thats it, cant think of anything else.

or same as you making words rhyme and they turn out naff.

But dont throw away or delete anything you write down, save it and go back to it later, even 5 or 6 months later when you got that original tune in your head for it, out of your head. You think of a new tune and new words seem to come up.

and if you find it hard to find a word that rhymes then use a word that doesnt rhyme, even if it means changing a chord or two, even for the whole structure of the song.

It can be tricky sometimes and lots of times comes to a dead end within minutes, then even more frustrating after an hour or 2 trying to get a song down.

best thing, like I said, give up and save it for later.

hope this helps you.

Re: HELP PLEASE

first just pick a key you want to sing in .

after that play around with the chords in that key for example:

say you want to play in Cmajor it might go like

                C F C G Dm F Am G

that would make a nice verse progression

then do something simple for your chorus like

                C F C F C Am F

Then do something for an interlude

start by just playing around with the Cmajor and Cmajor pentatonic scales and add a few bends and accidentals

Heres the two scales:

major

---------------------------7-8-

-----------------------8-10----

-----------------7-9-10--------

-----------7-9-10--------------

-----7-8-10--------------------

-8-10--------------------------

major pentatonic

------------------------8-10---

-------------------8-10---------

---------------7-9--------------

-----------7-10-----------------

------7-10----------------------

-8-10---------------------------

Re: HELP PLEASE

Well, I'm no expert, but I find that this helps me. From time to time a thought or a verse pops into my mind, so I have a folder called "Poems". I'll jot down a thought, then re-visit it from time to time. Usually I can think of other endings or other phrases to use. After a few shots, I come up with lyrics that make sense to me. I'm still pretty new at this, but I feel hopeful. Never give up the ship!

Re: HELP PLEASE

lots are asking this,

it can come naturally to some and for some it is hard work, especially trying not to make it sound corny, but even corny lyrics acn be sung to sound not so corny.

a lot of practice, try making a rythum on guitar and writing lyrics at same time, think of a subject i.e camping, getting to work, driving across the country. Each verse is about a different part of the story and the chorus is common to all verses. then try puting abreak in ( a part that sounds different from the verse and chorus).

and to start with , try ripping off some famous song that someone esle has already done but change the tune slightly and use other words instead of ones that a famous song has.

hope this helps.

Re: HELP PLEASE

first try a cycle of rhythms like...Bm A G D Bm. or C Am F G.and by noticing the scales write anything that suits the rhythm.

though it sounds funny but try to match the scale by singing da..da..da..in your own way then place da words...

gud luck

Re: HELP PLEASE

oh yeah the da da da um dum dum doo bee doo's are good for getting your lyrical line

Re: HELP PLEASE

first ask yourself how long have you been playing guitar if it's only been say a few months focus on learning more chords then you can get a feel of chords that go along well with words

Re: HELP PLEASE

Ken makes a good point. I have a couple buddys who have been working with the biggies in nashville...

they have two songs in the top 100 country charts right now. They say this.. follow the  "nashville formula" and you can break big. But the only nashville formula i can see is have a pretty front man, a fiddle and steel guitar, then play 80's rock. they have been trying to get me involved because nashville wants 3 songwriters colaborating together!?!? i, however, ain,t

just outside the box, i'm outside the circle thats outside the box... write about what moves you.. whats important in your life and it will fall together.

i've written hundreds of songs over the past 30 or so years and consider all but a handfull to be total junk. the big thing is keep at it! the hardest person to please is yourself...

peace, slim
