Topic: Pretty Baby

I woke up Saturday morning with this in my head, almost complete. So I ran down stairs to my studio and wrote it down, I even had the chords down. WARNING... it's not about love, it's about a serial killer, I'd been watching "Medium" before going to bed!

Pretty Baby.Undefined

[E] There was a story in the papers just the other day.

A girl from Alabama called Lucy Mae.

She was [A] cute she was sassy, she was all those things.

She was [E] walking through the mall with a few of her friends.

When she [B] met an older guy, he was [A] moody and weird.

When they [E] looked for Lucy Mae, the [B] girl had disappeared.

(CHORUS).

Oh [E] no, where's my pretty baby, come home.

I miss my pretty baby. She's [A] gone.

I'm nearly going crazy. It's [E] so long.

Where's my pretty baby?

Her [B] mamma's going crazy, and her [A] papa's getting mad.

The [E] news from Alabama has [B] never been so bad.

(SOLO)

(SAME CHORDS FOR EACH VERSE AND CHORUS)

Did you hear it on the radio; a girl called Mary-Sue?

She lived in Mississippi when she went to buy some shoes.

She was fourteen, she was pretty, she was dressed up all in white.

A car pulled up and she got in, she didn't make a fight.

They searched all through the neighbourhood.

They searched all through the town.

Their searching every single place, I don't think she'll be found.

Oh no, where's my pretty baby, come home.

I miss my pretty baby, she's gone.

I'm nearly going crazy, it's so long.

Where's my pretty baby.

Her mamma's going crazy.

Her dad is getting mad.

The news from Mississippi has never been so bad.

Somebody saw a picture on a CCTV screen.

They called the FBI and now their searching for a man.

He was tall over forty and he wore a baseball cap.

They chased him down the freeway but his car was total crap.

So they caught him in Missouri and they threw him into jail.

But they never found the bodies of those pretty little girls.

Oh no, he's never gonna tell them, they're gone.

The pretty little babies no more.

This guy is truly crazy. No go.

Where's the pretty babies?

Their mamma's going crazy, the papa's getting mad.

They're gonna get a rope and take the law into their hands.

(REP 1st & 2nd CHORUS) >SOLO)

Re: Pretty Baby

Evening Phil,

Yes ive just listened to your new song. You did a good job condensing the story into lyric form.

Can i say this , I felt the music was to up beat for such a sad ole story. Just my tuppence worth Phil.
In my honest opinion  id like it slowed down somewhat..

Thanks as always for sharing.

Why Blend in with the Crowd ? When you were made to stand out !

Re: Pretty Baby

Some great guitar work there, Phil.

Have to agree with Lena on the subject matter / setting though.

Re: Pretty Baby

hi guys,

funnily enough i thought the same, but this is how it came out, i dont know where the songs come from, so i dont think i should interfere with how they come....silly but there you go!

thanks for the feedback

Re: Pretty Baby

hi phill a heart felt song, great sound ,listening to it i dont think it could be played slower you'd never fit the lyrics in with the slow beat, keep doing what your doing......stay cool

love is life ,life is for love, keep a true heart and live life to the full....stay cool

Re: Pretty Baby

Hi Phill
Mmmm and upbeat song with err major downbeat lyrics.
Well if that's the way it come out I've got no problems with that. smile
Good job on the recording and guitar etc.
Just want to sing Go Johnny Go....:)

Re: Pretty Baby

hi ark,
yeah it is reminiscent of johhny b goode, but then aren't all 12 bar songs?

hi daddy,

i have done a slower version which i've retitled "slow pretty baby", it's a little more bluesy with the same riffs and it's on myspace, and i am inviting comments, i would like to hear every one's views on whether it's better slow?

the guitar work, by the way, was part of what i woke-up with, and was just a case of learning the riffs.

i dont actually like the subject matter, as i hate what it's talking about. i detest violence, but i do believe murderers should be executed...i'm strange that way!

Had a listened to the slower version. I liked the energy of the first one better myself.

Re: Pretty Baby

Like it. Like the pace, takes the mind off the darkish subject matter a bit. I quite like the contrast that gives too. Where peopl emay take the song at apparent face value and then only realise the true jist of it when they look closer.

Good effort.

All I got, is a red guitar, three chords and the truth

Re: Pretty Baby

I also enjoyed it the country southern feel nice effort Phill smile

Re: Pretty Baby

Howdy Phil,

I like the slowed down version, it doesn't seem as rushed and I think it flows nicely and seems to come together better. It is a nice piece either way smile

Thanks for the feedback...the desired effect. I was expecting a general consensus that it might have been too fast! different strokes for different folks I guess.

thanks again
