Actually, that technique of just strumming harder will probably help me more.
I'm heavy handed on the guitar anyway and it will suit my style juuuuuust fine.
I'll give it a try and let you all know how it works out.
Thank you!!!

You're just experiencing music for all that it is now.

Heya Pix!
No problemo bud. I don't even pretend to have all the answers as I've not been doing this long enough. There are many members on this site more wise than me, and even a few luthiers too.
I just thought i'd throw my information out and see if he could use it.
It takes a village!

Yes, she is at the front in the pulpit. Our church camera needs to be replaced. As the audio/video technician (And lead guitarist) I am in charge of the recordings. I want to get a new camera for the church but I've gotta get the wife to sign off on it first hehe.
Thank you! I always have such a great time playing with our First Lady. She sings in a bluesy style that I can really connect with and play to.

Wow, awesome story sir!
I enjoyed learning about what all goes on for a performance.
It reminded me that I need to start working out...
I just signed on to play for our state musicians group and just playing 4-5 hours every night this past week wore me out like nothing I've felt in years.
I don't know how touring musicians do it.
Note: I'm only 33 and 165 lbs.
Where did my stamina go???
=[
Dm
sweet! Thanks mekidsmom!!
I've stayed away from realplayer in the past because their old software was bloatware.
Will have to go look at their new stuff.

Well, I would use the neck for leads when playing blues.
I would use the bridge for lead and rhythm when playing rock.
The middle 3 positions I don't know much about because I play 2-pickup guitars.
I guess that would be up to you to decide what they sound best for.
On my guitar I use the neck pickup (Charlie Christian) for lead and rhythm because it's so warm and versatile. My middle position is wired to be out of phase so I use that for when I REALLY want to cut through the other instruments like a hot knife. I use my bridge pickup (SD SH-4 JB) when I'm playing distorted rhythm or if I am doing pinch harmonic leads.

Last sunday, our First Lady rendered a particularly bluesy and tasty version of "Walk with me, Lord" in church.
I love playing with our First Lady because she really knows how to get deep and render the songs in a way that not only touches you, but helps you get your breakthrough from what you may be going through.

I really liked the first lick that I played in the video...though I don't remember how I played it.

I love working with humble people.
In the COGIC arena, that is hard to find. Many of the musicians that I have come across are show-offs with an "Im the best there is" attitude. It was the reason that I stopped attending Jurisdictional events like the one I'm playing at this week.
But I see that things have changed and that the current rotation of musicians is VERY enjoyable. The Bassist almost feels like an uncle to me. I wanted to go to the music store and get him something just to show him how much I appreciate him...and I JUST met the guy! He is humble, sincere, laid back and very funny. 3 qualities I love in any person...kinda reminds me of Zurf...lol.

A) How long do you practice?
B) What do you practice?
A) I practice an hour at lunch, and 15 minutes twice a workday. I don't get to play at home much due to living in an apartment.
B) Usually I practice playing along to backing tracks when practicing my lead licks. But I also like to learn new songs every now and then. Like, this week I have been practicing "Sleep now in the fire" by Rage against the machine.
I mainly focus on practicing Blues and funk licks since that is mostly what I play. Every now and then I find some good theory to put into my practice routine.

I believe it may come down to my own particular guitar setup. It's probably something I did (Right/wrong) when putting it back together.
Thanks,

Greetings,
i've been having a bit of a fit getting my palm muting technique down good.
What i'm noticing is that the same placement of the edge of my hand on the lower strings will not give the same effective muting when moved to the top strings.
And when I move to the top strings there doesn't seem to be any middle ground. It's either wholly unmuted or overmuted/deadened and not audible.
What is the secret to properly palm-muting the top three strings?
Should I even be attempting to palm mute these strings?
Does palm-muting only apply to the E-A-D strings?
confused,
Dm
Wow, I wish I could offer advice to help you.
I don't have enough experience to comment...though practice always makes perfect!

You see that paying dues to get started isn't enough. To play with the best you have to be the best and the workload is never ending. There is never a point where you can kick back and relax because new demands keep coming at you from many directions.
Musicians need to see the group director's viewpoint. If you were director seeking a guitarist, who would you choose? A competent player who has to borrow an instrument on certain days to practice and play or a competent player who can play lead as well as rhythm, sings lead and backup, is fun to work with and owns a P.A. system, a minivan with a two-way hand truck, is strong as a bull and is available seven days a week?
I, too, would definitely go with the latter option.
I guess I am a bit different. I bring all my own gear and enough for others too.
I've got my own car and I arrive early and make it to practice.
I can't say yet that I'd want to do this long-term, but for now...it's new and interesting.
One thing I've had a gripe about for a long time is how flaky some musicians can be.
I almost wanted to say sorry and take it all back because now I see that making it out to shows is very taxing. But if I wasn't going to make it I'd still definitely call someone and let them know.
lol,
Dm
See, maybe another assignment coming down the tubes. Stick with Ricky and learn all you can from him. You may be called to step up or step into another situation that requires his skill but not necessarily him.
Thank you! I pray that is the case!
I've gotta get my left hand speed up somehow.
If i'm going to get out there I've gotta blaze!

What does it mean to "play for the state?"
It's a great feeling when it all comes together, anyway. Here's wishing many more of those upon you.
You know Jerome...I'm learning that "Playing for the State" is very work intensive.
*whew*
Usually, the Washington DC area has seasonal musical events for the churches in this area. The "State Musical Group" is a gathering of musicians from all of the churches in the area that are selected to play for these seasonal events. We are led in music by the Jurisdictional (DC Area) Minister of Music, Ricky Payton.
I still haven't officially accepted the position as Lead Guitarist as this is a trial week. I'm finding that it's more tiring that I expected it to be. The musicians area is very very cramped and when the offering is going on it's hard to play because people are constantly bumping into me to get past and down the aisle. I will take a photo of where i'm playing at tonight when I get to rehearsal.
Just this week is wearing me out. I am going to have to start working out again if I'm going to be a gigging musician. I didn't realize how out-of-shape I am until this week...lol
=p

Found out which guitar it was...
It's the "Fernandes Nomad Standard"

"The NOMAD is a very well-constructed travel guitar with great built-in FX that I have used to write songs, practice and warm up before every show on tour. Thank you, Fernandes."
