Hi lilyrosemary and welcome to Chordie,

If you read the thread 'SQL error' you will see that others, including me, are having the same problem. There appears to be a bug and Per, the webmaster, has been informed to try and sort this out.

I too am getting the same message and I also have contacted Per about the situation. In fact the only way I can log in successfully is from the Forum page and not from the home page.

I am sure that Per will remedy the situation shortly.

OK then with Royal approval I will open a new sticky but first perhaps someone can suggest a good title and then we can get some links posted here with a brief description of what help they will give.

Most people can sing, there are a few who are 'tone deaf' and will never hit a right note but they are few and far between. When we sing, or talk for that matter, we hear ourselves internally and not with our ears alone so recordings of our own voice will sound strange at first.

Recording yourself and listening critically to the results to correct errors can be a great help. Don't forget that your voice is like any other musical instrument, you have to practice using it to get it right. Standing and singing from the diaphragm, not from your lungs, will help you get the best from your voice and as others have said finding the right key to suit your vocal range is important.

As I am sat just in shorts with as cold beer by my side and sweat running down my back as I write this all I can say is that summer is still very much with me here and I am looking forward to some cooler temperatures in a couple of month's time. Mind you like most English people I shall probably moan when it does turn cooler and be wishing for the warmer stuff again lol.

Moving from England where summer seemed to last for just a few short weeks, to here in Portugal where there is generally warm weather from May to October, summers have got a lot longer for me.

Might I add to this suggestion that one of the problems is that many Members rarely read the 'Stickys', particularly noobies. I have lost count of the number of times that I have had to suggest that the reply to someone's query was already posted in a 'Sticky'.

Because of this I am not so sure it would work but I welcome other points of view.

I have now moved this post to the proper section.

Lene, with my welcome to you to Chordie may I respectfully request that you read the replies to your previous posts and note what has been said. Thank you.

^ Hey Rog - I've added a placemark to the map in Portugal in what I believe to be a location close to you.

If you would like to add any info or provide a more exact location you can shoot me an email with the data or if you have a gmail account send be your addy so I can add you as a map collaborator.

Hi Jeff,

I jumped the gun a bit on this one as I thought that Kenny had recieved the picks when I wrote to him (still it got me next in line, didn't it lol). I live a little out of Almancil but I think that it is close enough for this.

As soon as I receive them from Kenny I will post a message here to find out who will be next.

Hi mekidsmom and welcome to Chordie. I hope that you joining us will encourage a few more ladies to come and offer their advice on this and other topics. As Zurf says, ladies are welcome and so are young people too. We are quite a friendly bunch of folk and we don't bite lol.

A cracking idea of yours Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

Well done to you, it is a great song. It does not seem long ago that you were reluctant to even try recording your songs and now look at the results you are achieving! Wonderful news that it has been selected for the CD - a big pat on the back from me.

Roger

PS. I hope you do not mind but I made a slight amendment to your post so that a click on the link will take you to MySpace.

Hi Jake and welcome to Chordie,

Unless you hold the copyright for the song you cannot post it on Chordie. Please read my Sticky titled 'Posting of Songs' at the start of this section.

Unfortunately I do not have my 12er at hand as a friend has borrowed it but on reflectionI think you are right and I have made a blunder (bright red face) sorry.

So the tuning is:

E - one octave higher than normal
E - normal guitar tuning

A - one octave higher than normal
A - normal guitar tuning

D - one octave higher than normal
D - normal guitar tuning

G - one octave higher than normal
G - normal guitar tuning

B - normal guitar tuning
B - normal guitar tuning

e - normal guitar tuning
e - normal guitar tuning

I think you misunderstood Sumelton, If you tune 1/2 step down the every string is tuned down and not just the second strings so it would be Eb, Eb, Ab, Ab, Db, Db, Gb, Gb, Bb, Bb, eb, eb.

In the 60's my 12er had to be tuned to D but in those days there were not the range of string gauges to relieve neck stress. However with modern guitars and strings there should not be any problem using standard tuning, I certainly have never had any problem with my 12er going out of tune when tuned to E.

To expand on Selso's reply,

If you have the 12 string in the normal playing position the heavier of the paired strings are uppermost and are tuned as follows:

E - normal guitar tuning
E - but one octave higher

A - normal guitar tuning
A - but one octave higher

D - normal guitar tuning
D- but one octave higher

G - normal guitar tuning
G - but one octave higher

B - normal guitar tuning
B - normal guitar tuning

e - normal guitar tuning
e - normal guitar tuning

I hope that helps.

Hi Cescowgirl and welcome to Chordie,

As Guitarpix has already pointed out records show that this is your very first post, so unless you posted something under a different username and e-mail address, there is no other posting than this one from you on Chordie.

Probably the best thing to do is to raise the query, in the appropriate section, and look for fresh replies.

I am with vxn on this. I have a JG 26SCE electro acoustic and it is the best guitar I have ever played. Here is a YouTube clip of a test on one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNMZigt1fwE

I am begiining to wonder if I am weird lol!! On checking my songs that I find that I have them in the keys of in A, C, D, E, F, and G. No B, although I did find one in Bb.

I am of the opinion that it is the vocal range of the song that determines the key that I can sing it in.

Roger

Hi Per,

I just checked the Beatles and all seems OK with me here in Portugal. My ip is: 87.103.20.19

Hi Toney,

What a great video! You must be sure to preserve a copy of this for him for when he gets older.

Please tell him, from me, that it was very well done.
