Graham

I am pretty sure I know what it's about.  It keeps me going in fact!

I have been teaching for almost 40 years..... and I have seen some teachers that were well loved and respected...students adored them......
yet after they retired, it was like they became " nobody"  anymore.     It's onward and upward for the young.... they forget ab out you pretty fast. Just as you wrote in the lyrics... getting old brings on a cloak of invisibilty...but not in a good way.

It's the same at family gatherings... you see the older ones  kinda pushed aside...not invited to dance on the floor, play in the game, sing in the band.....    and then that doubt creeps in about whether or not you're needed any more.  Erik Erikson referred to that as ego integrity vs. despair - I think that was what this was about.... but hey - I 've been wrong plenty of times before.

Liked it Graham....

looking forward to your recording of it, but not looking forward to my cloak at all !  sad
JIM

Phill - love it!   My mom used to always say to me  " I hope your kids are just like you, because it will be a big payback".  I always tell my kids - do as I say, not as I did!  :0)

Fantastic guitar work and engineering of the mix !  Well done my friend!

Nice one Mojo !

I must say however - you scared the crap out of me.  When I read your topic: Goodbye Steve Earle - my first reaction was holy crap - did I miss something ? Steve Earle died ?

He is one of my favorites !

Anyway, very cool  cover of the song  man!  smile
JK

Yes. Very honored that they did this.  Thought it sounded great!
Not being a real musician, I am always amazed by what you folks on Chordie can do.

Kim Noble and her friends put together this cover of my song Country Singer Blues.
I think you will be pleased.  I loved the performance and energy !
Thanks Kim et al !!

Yes a great big THANK YOU  to all the service men and women who have or are currently serving in the military. ( Not just U.S. soldiers either! smile )

In my small town, each year we have such a moving ceremony. The man who played the bugle for U.S. Grant ( Seth Flint) and played taps at the surrender of Lee @ Appomattox at the end of the civil war was from our town.  Today , my 83 year old brother, a Korean War Veteran, led the ceremony, as he has for the past  50 years or so.  He braved the 80 degree heat and humidity to deliver a great message to the crowd, even though he had to bring his portable oxygen !  He mentioned that being in the cemetery we honor the dead by raising monuments, but that every soldier's true monument is a country where freedom still rings!  How symbolic of all those that have given so much.  I was very proud.

NEVER FORGET !!

[song]
{t: Baby, I've got you}

{c: this song started because I was sitting on my porch just playing  this little chord progression, and it started thundering and raining. Some how words just started coming together.  This is the soundcloud link to my version.....    https://soundcloud.com/tigljk/baby-ive-got-you  ........ I hope you like it.}

[Em] The thunder rolled all
[B7] through the night
and you [Am] held me tightly
‘til the [C]  morning’s light
[G]Little whispers , and
[D]  sweet caress
[Am]gentle kisses that
I’m [C]really gonna
[G] miss

[G] [D][Am][C]  [Em]

[Em]As the sun rises on a
[B7]nother day , there’s a
[Am] million reasons for
[C]  me to stay
[G]Distanced by chance, but
[D] not  by the heart
To[Am]gether forever, we’ll
[C]  never be
[G] apart

Chorus
[G] Ain’t it funny how [D]life works out, when
[C]  best laid plans never  [ G ] come about
[G ] all those dreams,  that [D] never came true
[Am] never  mattered , as [C]long as I had   [G]  you

[G] [D][Am][C]  [Em]

now [Em] the moon is full in the
[B7] clear night sky, and
The [Am] time has come to
[C]Say goodbye
[G]Hold back those tears cuz
[D]I need  you to smile, and
[Am] hold me  love , even
[C]  for just a little
[G]while

[G] Ain’t it funny how [D]life works out ,  it
[C] takes, it gives, and [G]spins you about
[G ] all those dreams,  that [D] never come true
[Am] never  matter , as [C]long as I’m with  [G]  you

[G ] all those dreams,  that [D] never come true
[Am] never  mattered , [C] long as I’m with  [G]you
[D] it never mattered cuz, [C] baby, I’ve got
[G] you
[D] it never mattered cuz, [C] baby, I’ve got
[G] you
[D] it never mattered cuz, [C] baby, I’ve got
[G] you
[D] it never mattered cuz, [C] baby, I’ve got
[G] you

Scott, Jerome, Alan,.......Nice one guys.

Being a lyricist - I wish I could hear the vocals a little clearer, but I know that is more of the punk style.
Sure gets the foot a tapping !
Blended well together.

I'm sure it waas a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.

Congrats on a cool production!

I originally posted the lyrics in song writing...but I changed it considerably ( even the title) so I thought I'd re-post here with the sound cloud link.

It's not really a band ... just me and my guitar,
with sincere apologies to your ears:) .....

Too Young To Die All Alone

intro
[Em]  All alone,  all alone,
[Am] All alone,  I'm all alone,
[Em]  All alone,  all alone
[B7] I'm gonna die, all [Em]alone

[Em]Ignored the warnings that  I was   given
Always, [Am]took the road of easy livin’
though I [B7] knew it was a dead end
and [Em] alcohol was my only friend

[Em]  [Am]  [B7]   [Em]

[Em] family members   seem to disappear
I [Am]  drown one more  with every beer
[B7]No longer  welcomed in my own home
I’m, [Em]  bitter, broke,  and    all alone

[Em]  [Am]  [B7]   [Em]

CHORUS
[Am]When did my life turn into this  awful dream
[Em]How did I fall for the devil’s scheme
[AM]Why’d I let my heart turn so damn cold
[B7]I’m  way too young to  be this [Em]old
I’m [B7] way too  young to  die all [Em]alone

[Em]Time passes  now , slower and slower
my [Am]mirror  shows me older and older
[B7] good times are a thing of the past
I [Em]wonder if today  is  my last

I’m [B7] way too  young to  die all [Em]alone
I’m [B7] way too  young to  die all [Em]alone

That's some mighty fine playing.

Justin Towns Earle plays like that - it always sounds like there are two , sometims three guitarists playing, but it's just one.  Wish I could play like that.

It's amazing to see the passion these older bluesmen put into the lyrics - as TF said - it really soothes the soul.

This is a perfect example of why you're the one who knows the blues we need to know!

Thanks man - keep 'em coming - we all appreciate it !!!

I had never listened to a Motorhead song.  That was wicked cool. The accompanying guitarist was awesome as well.

Ditto what TF said!

What if you only did the last friday of the month ?  Less time, same thrill for all of us ?

Mojo

Excellent Man !  Really had that southern Louisiana feel to it.

Lots of talented dudes and dudettes on here - you're one of them!

I know you're being serious and all, but I can't resist.

Maybe you should include this little sing along and ask your wife if it's okay to do this one. smile

In reality - I only knew three of those songs.  I think you should include some Eric Clapton , it's well known and you nail Clapton every time!
The other one that I would suggest is Van Morrison's Have I told you lately... I think that would be a perfect night ending song for your set...and your voice is perfect for it.

But then again, I'm not  musician - what the hell do I know? smile

Good luck Graham

Once again, your playing and singing is top notch !!!
That is a great song.
I did a little research on it as I had always thought it was a grateful Dead song - boy was I wrong.
That has been made famous by some great artists including Eric Burdon, Louis Armstrong , Van Morrison, Lou Rawls, Joe Cocker, Doc Watson, Arlo Guthrie, Tom jones, Harry Connick, Duke Ellington, and lst but not least - Cab Calloway in the 19333 Movie Betty Boop ! (And lot's of others!)

I was amazed on how many different ways this was played, and how many subtle differences in the lyrics there are.
St. James Infirmary - cited to be located right there in London and Piccadilly !! smile

Graham - Really enjoyed your cover - it was fantastic.
I would love to be able to come to one of your live  performances someday, but I guess I'll just have to settle for your posts and videos.

Thanks for sharing.

Jim

That was awesome- way out of my league!

Really loved that style.
Way to go BGD!
