neophytte, that was great, really enjoyed it.  Liked the lyrics, the way you sang in it, including the little speaking bit haha and of course guitar wise, it suited the song very much.  Look forward to hearing the next verse.  Maybe you could right more about your reaction in the 3rd verse or make up something that happened for a 3rd verse smile

Thanks - it took a bit of extra effort to set up, mix down, and do the video editing; but it does make it look a bit better. I might try and mix one of the other songs I did the same way ..

I wrote this song last year which is somewhat comedic, based on a true imaginary story of a spider jumping on me:

I'm still missing a third verse, so suggestions are welcomed!

neophytte, that was well written, I liked the lyrics on this one.  Can you share the lyrics and chords with us please?  I would like to have a go at this one.

Hi Jan,

Sure, here it is https://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=36356 - it also has one of the follow up songs "Suffering", which follows the same chord progression;  there were two others that followed on, but I haven't posted or recorded them.

Just on note on the chords - I use the 'at' symbol to specify where on the fretboard it is meant to be played, so the Am@5 means to play the Am chord on the 5th fret - it gives it a different dynamic to playing in the 1st position (eg x 0 3 0 1 0 in the first position as opposed to 5 7 5 5 5 5 at the 5th position), but if you're going to play it on uke, it may be a moot point.

It's a Session guitar (which I still have and use as my "pickup test" guitar now); I've never been able to find much info about them on the web, but there was this snippet from this site:

Session were a brand in Australia by The Electric Factory in Melbourne Victoria …… the first and second runs were made in Japan and were of very good quality that stood up against Profiles and Daions , the third and fourth runs were made in Korea but weren’t quite the same ….. I believe they sold the brand name around 1995

I think mine was one of the early ones as it plays and feels very good - it was my main ax for a number of years!!

Wow Richard that is brilliant.

Thanks - the guitar bass and drums were recorded live to my 8 track way back in the mid nineties at a rehearsal room - the keyboardist didn't turn up and we just jammed out a few songs. There were about 4 or 5 verses we played, thenb during 2023 I edited the audio down to the two verses that the song had and added the vocals, effects and tweaked the sound of the original instruments into what you heard in that track.

This was one that I did sometime back in the 90's - a friend used to make "video productions", and every year he and his extended friend group would make one big video - on this year they did a Telethon-style appeal for Nana Mouskouri:

I had a drum machine that I operated with my foot, (probably a Boss DR-110) and the other guitarist (Michael) was just for show (and extra vocals) - he was the drummer in one of our bands. I later bought the bass players (Kevin) bass guitar and still have it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cjrpg1v_D0o

Most of the other acts were miming or telling jokes, and they were all impressed by our 3 minute cover of "My Generation" by the Who - several people complimented us on the way out. I can't remember what we did with amps and stuff, but it was probably with our old configuration of a Boss BX600 mixer into a practice amp.

We also made a couple of music videos for the band, but the music was the original and we just kind of mimed and "starred" in the video - I think they were the Beatles "Back in the USSR" and "End of the line" by the Travelling Wilburies. I'd probably get pinged by YouTube for a copyright infringement if I put them up ...

It was great all round! Only thing I'd recommend next time is to keep the credits on the screen for longer at the end.

neophytte, nicely performed, a lovely song performed well by you.  Thumbs up from me smile
I performed this song about 6 years ago on Soundcloud, I was trying to play guitar 'again'.   I found when I sang this, I was so focused on the guitar playing and TRYING to get it right that my vocals weren't so good.  I need to get that guitar out again and dust it off.  Trouble is, I get frustrated with the guitar because I can`t seem to nail the F chord on it and I am useless at barr chords.

Thanks - it's possible to play the F in a 'cowboy' (or girl) position, with just your first three fingers:

Excellent entries by  both Richard and Brian this month That is a good Beatles song for you Richard. Brian your song had your wonderful  humour and it has catchy flow also.

Thanks for listening in! I was playing around with some "clip on" lenses for my phone, I might try the other one on a different video.

This is my entry for this month a song of mine from years back. Apologies for my vocals and piano playing but hopefully it entertains. It has got the word life in the lyrics.

I thought the piano and vocals suited this song, can imagine it being played in a smoky bar late at night, with the overhead fan turning slowly as people muse their lives over a shooter of whiskey ....

neophytte, that was great, I liked that one.  Is that one of your originals? Also, the balance was good on this one, i.e  your guitar playing didn't overrule your vocals, so it was easy to hear your vocals this time.  Nicely done.

Thanks, yes, one of my originals. Glad the balance was good, when I performed this song, the microphone was playing up, so had to stop and start again, so glad it got there in the end!!

Studies have started to show a causal link between teen social media use and reduced well-being or mood disorders, chiefly depression and anxiety. I guess social media is another form of addiction and for some their way of seeking validation.

I'm glad the kids have followed my example of being on social media for a limited time (usually looking at guitars!) .. the teenager would rather make music, and by the time the 9yo gets there, I think it would have petered into the next phase (whatever that might be!).

Part of the problem is that we no longer look to the elderly for advice; whereas in previous generations the elderly were held in high regard for their experience and their tenacity, they are now ignored and (sometimes) ridiculed.

We now live in a society where we turn to "influencers" for their view - but these are often people chosen because they have big boobs or a big mouth; these are not the sort of people we should be asking for advice - their "opinion" matters, but not in singularity, in conjunction with all other opinions.

This is akin to asking a "sports star" to perform a complex medical procedure ....

I was outraged when I read the story about the UK Postmasters, for anyone that missed it, this was the first article that came to me via Google:

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-56718036

But the world is getting a smaller, tighter, more cynical place ... and particularly over the last few years - I always use Covid as a marker, but not the cause.

I think the world started going a bit crazy when the "Internet 2.0" was born, which was the time when the internet went from "informational" to "transactional" - this was a transition caused by all the businesses wanting to lower their costs (example, 10 people in call center can be replaced by two people responding to emails as they come through, during normal office hours to reduce overtime). All this was sold to regular people as "for your convenience", but it was actually just a cost saving exercise for big business. And every sector of that business was asked to "cut costs".

I see moving to a cashless society as a bad thing.

Anyone feel like entering "anything"?
