How about this one - When I'm practicing a song on guitar and am interrupted by my wife complaining about how my daughter won't practice piano. OK, so what's the message? Practice is important and you shouldn't interrupt it, or practice isn't important and you shouldn't complain about it not happening. Grrrrrrrrrr.

People who don't flush, especially in public bathrooms.
Being telephoned by a computer. I do not talk to computers. If a computer wants to tell me something, that's fine. "This is the library. The book you requested has arrived. Thank you." Done. I'm good with that. If the computer wants me to respond to them via telephone, it is out of luck. "Press 1 if you are interested in our offer." Not doing it. I especially hate when the computer calls to tell me that I have to call someone back. Nope. He should have just called me in the first place.
Scam artists who rely on my stupidity. Especially scam artists who use a computer to call me to tell me to call them. "This is an urgent message from card holder services..." How dumb do they think I am? "Card member services". You're calling me and and having your computer script identify yourself by a department rather than a company name. Sure. That happens all the time.

Another one, when you say "Thank you" to someone and they reply with "yeah" or a grunt. The correct response is "you're welcome" or "my pleasure" or something like that. "Ugh" is not a proper response to 'thank you'.
When you have two or more lanes going in the same direction and you pull up behind someone. They're going well under the speed limit, but when you pull to the side to pass they speed up so that to get by them you have to go ten or fifteen over the speed limit to get by. Or worse, you decide not to pass and pull back in behind them and they slow back down.
Also the converse of that, when I am going below the speed limit and hanging in the right lane only to have someone zoom up on my tail end before moving to the passing lane despite it having been clear and available to them all along.
There will be many more from me as I think of them. There are PLENTY of things that annoy me.
I'm glad you had a reprieve, but am disappointed that you're in spasm again.
Looks like I missed a call. I have the sound way up, so I'm not sure how.

However, it turned out to the one of the BEST THINGS THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME! What I did not know at the time is that my firing set the course for me to ultimately get to my current job - the best job I've ever had and I think one of the best jobs in the world! Of course, it took several years for the "plan" to be revealed to me and several more for me to put myself in a position to help make it happen.
That's how God works it seems. There are so many stories like this, all with the same punch line, which is basically, "Once I humbled myself and then put myself to work trying to serve my family instead of my ego, blessings began to flow like water over a dam."
I've got interest, but my afternoon plans are sketchy. I'll leave Skype open with the sound up, and if I'm around when the alarm comes through I'll join in. And I'll check in periodically too.
Skype up and join in a virtual campfire.
Well you checked it out, and that's a start. Starting at 10PM on a weekday is the sort of thing that only sounds sensible to a bar musician.

This paragraph surprised me: "In this study, 70 musicians and non-musicians aged 59 to 80 were evaluated by neuropsychological tests and surveyed about general lifestyle activities. The musicians scored higher on tests of mental acuity, visual-spatial judgment, verbal memory and recall, and motor dexterity."
Not all or probably not even most but many adult musicians drink an enormous amount of adult beverages, or have had their fill and stopped drinking them altogether, and I would think that would have a negative effect on cognitive activities.
Ha! This presumes we have a brain to begin with.
Jim - I'll be sure I've still got it. If you are willing to pay shipping costs, I'm willing to ship. I don't suppose there would be any import fees or such for a giveaway item. - Zurf
Well, for my new job I'm going to have about two to three hours of commuter per day (that I don't work from home that is). The commute is by public transportation, so I plan to purchase a tablet computer to allow me to be productive during the commute and shortening the amount of time I have to be away from home. I will add to the list of "wants" for features of a tablet computer a camera and input for a mic.
How much fun would it be to have a genuine campfire and virtual campfire combined?
Topdown should get a MiFi so that he can take his computer along to an open mic and Skype the whole thing...
I got home about 7:30 and played one song with Roger and Jeff on. Then I was called to dinner. It seems my wife was supporting me by ignoring my request not to hold dinner because I wanted to spend some time with you folks. Roger was in good tone last night. I don't recall the song he was singing, but it sounded great. I played one song. I've been working on Tom Petty's "Yer So Bad". Roger decided to go to bed. Then Jeff said "Tony's got an open mic a mile away from here. Bye." My singing has that effect on people, making them want to be somewhere else. :-)

Yep. Amen to that!
I won't be able to leave the office until 5:00, then I have to walk to the subway and take it to a bus that goes to a parking lot where I pick up my truck to drive home. The drive home will be brutal because President Obama is speaking at a high school about 1/2 mile from my house and on one of only two roads into my neighborhood. I hope to make it home by 7:00 or 7:30. Then I will need to boot my computer, crack open a bottle of dinner, and tune up.

Full disclosure time. I came back from vacation to the rumor that my entire department at work was going to be eliminated. I formed this department seven years ago and have lead it since. So, I got a meeting with the Executive Director to whom we report for this morning, and he confirmed it. I'm terminated as of September 14 for having done absolutely nothing wrong. That stings.
The part about how things look like they're going to work out is that someone separately contacted me about a role that he has in the same larger organization I work in that would be a truly lateral move. The role is relevant to my background and capabilities, so I've agreed to take it in principle. There's a bunch of HR stuff to do, but it looks like I'll have a soft place to land. My team mate also has what looks like will be a soft place to land. My boss is not so fortunate.
So, I will be grateful to see some familiar faces, drink an adult beverage or two, and make some music this evening.

I like the new name of "virtual campfire".
The place I've been meaning to check out for an open mic on Friday nights has closed down. Jet60 has a place that holds open mics on Tuesdays. That's where Normtheguitar played when he came to visit. It is a very welcoming and friendly event, but Tuesday night - rough. Especially considering that I'd likely require a chemical relaxation aid in beverage form after an initial public performance, and then work in the morning. Ugh.

I may join a little bit after 6:00 Eastern.

I avoid that problem by not playing chords when I do bass walk downs. I just play the bass notes. You'll hear Johnny Cash use this approach often. You'll also hear it often in Chicago blues. If pressed to play chords, I'll try and keep my treble notes for the starting chord in place and then finger the bass notes of the walk-down until it's time for the new chord. I have no idea what the resulting combination of notes are properly called, but I'm sure there are probably slashes and 7s involved in the names. I do this second approach in Dance, Dance, Dance by Steve Miller.

Yeah. I could use some buddies.
