this is a new track and as it says, it's about a bounty hunter. you can find it at this address;
nice one jim, i like story songs. the weathers taking a turn for the worse here too....rain, wind and more rain
Fair point, Ed, bridges and chorus's serve the same end, to break up and give the song a counterpoint. Listening to a new song for the first time, all you remember after is the hook or chorus. The hook can just as easily be a riff as on wonderful tonight or Something from the Beatles, written interestingly about the same lady. More, interestingly both are riff led and contain a great bridge.
My favourite is V2. Jim's post said rock and roll, so I went that way first. When I played it on piano later I realised the slower blues version suited the song (in my opinion) better. I could be wrong, give your opinions please.
i think i've mentioned before that you have a kind of dylan-esk voice. but you need to project it a little more. stop worrying about what people think of your singing. i was kicked out of the school choir when i was 14m i think my voice has improved a little since then....?
Ed, don't remove musical bridges as they can break a long song up that may be getting a little tedious, I'm not saying any of your songs are boring but if you have a lot to say a solo can ease the length so you can go past the 4 minute barrier without the listener yawning!
Has anyone else noticed how 3 minute songs of the ballad variety seem to last 10minutes plus?
you've never heard of Yes?
Yes have made a living out of 30 minute songs since the 70's, but because they orchestrate their songs they never get boring. they start quite often with an intro that lasts as long as most pop songs! a song will be out and out rock and roll then slow to a ballad then back to riffing and ending in a crescendo that will bring the house down.
eric clapton records most of his songs to about 3-4 minutes but playing live he might fill them out to 6 or 7 minutes with his soloing.
myself i try and limit verses if possible, don't forget if you have a song with 10 verses, you have to be able to remember all the words. and the song might get repetitive which becomes boring to you and especially to the audience. american pie is a great song, but very word-y. i sang it once on karaoke....boy did it get boring for me, so how did the audience feel?
rule of thumb; if it sounds good and feels good, it is good. if the listener yawns...it's too long.
growing-up is a fairy tale we frighten kids with if they won't go to bed when we tell them. toys...? i had a train set, now i have a fender telecaster...that's the joy of evolution.
first christmas poem of the season, you've set the bar high. nice one

good question keep, i hadn't heard about that one, it just goes to show how our elected leaders can manipulate us into accepting and doing their will. god help the poor of the UK if the UKIP party get into power. or indeed if the tories retain power. sorry i got all political again.
i used to play in a band with a couple of younger guys, i was married at the time they weren't and were always on the pull. if one had cracked on, the other would goad me into taking on the not-so-cute friend, maybe cos i was married they thought i needed "cheering-up?" if you get my meaning? this was when i was with my first wife not my lovely second bride which i would never cheat on, but the meaning of your song is not wasted on me, been there, done that.
great song, enjoyed the recording too.

i dropped the spam hammer with full and certain knowledge that they would return with more drivel...sorry, carry on. phill
yep, thats about the size of it....LOL
A lot of them are posted between 06:00 and 08:00 GMT Phill. If you log on first thing in the morning there will probably be some sport for you
.
Roger
at that time i'm baby sitting my granddaughter. at 2 years old she's got her fingers all over the keyboard, so the PC stays off! the spammers will have to wait
no matter how good the gear is, it's the fingers and the talent that makes it good. unfortunately my fingers are stiff and my talent has yet to emerge.....
ps. i have a drawer to my left with jelly babies in for when i need a sugar rush. their the soft british jelly babies. there is a story of the beatles that goes; they were on their first US tour and let it slip that they loved jelly babies, but the US ones are hard! not fun getting pelted with hard boiled sweets!
lovelly. like the way you left the cartons in the shot. i too would be interested to hear some sounds and FX. but i don't suppose we'll hear from you for a good while, as my wife says "playing with your new toy"
your lay-out looks similar to mine russ, only my PC monitor is to the right of my DP24, then my alesis mixer. to my left hand are my acoustic 12 and 6 string and bass guitars. to my right hand are my keyboards and alesis performance pad. directly in front of me are my supplies of peanuts! yum yum
i get all the reports but they've all gone by the time i get there...takes all the fun out of kicking their butts
one thing i have to say about "spell-check" i do use it but there are words that are spelt differently in UK and US eg; COLOUR or the US color. if it had to be simplified why not kuler?...go figure?
on a more serious note, thanks amy for explaining that, it just goes to show the more money you have the more crimes you can get away with, unless it's against the government or the church. as i stated though, theses guys are english born and bred as far as i know, so would probably been conversing in english? that part is not clear.
i have no interest in facebook but i did join twitter but have never used it or filled in any personal details. i used to use yahoo answers but found that it was being frequented by perverts and idiot kids using bad language and indecent imagery. which is why after these years i'm still on chordie.

yep fair enough zurf, they cant be expected to check every email or thread that passes through their site, but there are programs that look for certain catch words or phrases that i believe government departments (spies) flag up. the worst part of this atrocity is that these 2 individuals live in the uk and take advantage of the benefits and freedom that this country provides. the messages they sent each other was over an open line (i believe) so they could and should have been flagged up and investigated. i am aware that a lot of terrorist activities have been uncovered and stopped before bombings/murders and the like were actioned and the authorities are to be thanked and congratulated for their action, but anti-terrorism is all our concern these days as i know you us-ers are well aware....lets unite over this one?
i must stress though that the majority of muslims are brilliant people and they should not all be judged because of the hateful actions of a few brainwashed individuals.
an off-duty soldier was cut down by machete wielding terrorists in the middle of london last year. it turns out that they were corresponding and planning their attack on FACEBOOK. the chicken livered british government want all such sites (facebook, google, yahoo etc) to voluntarily give this information over to the authorities instead of legislating that they must. i'm disgusted!
it appears that Facebook knew about this conversation but did nothing. if i'd been a member of Facebook i would resign my membership immediately. if this atrocity had happened in the US there would have been a huge hue and cry. we brits on the other hand have just said "oh" and left it at that. come on chordians, make a stand and dump Facebook.
i'm sorry if this is political and for once me being serious, but it has maddened me to that point.
phill
i like it very much, i love the way you've worked "shooting star" into the end of each verse. cant wait to hear it, any chance?
i never realised until recently that "harps, harmonicas, mouth organs" are made in specific keys. a guy asked if he could come on stage and give a tune, then told me it had to be in "G" as that was the only harp he had on him at the time! he explained later. so now i know.
oh and what you call beer we call lager and is served cold. the dark stuff you refer to can be Guiness or dark ale, bitter which is made with hops is usually lighter, but still served cooled. i've tried Coors, Budwiser and Labatts and i'm afraid i was not impressed, not with the fizz but the taste....sorry
lately i've been buying from mine from amazon, not elixir. i only bought them once a while ago, but didnt buy them again, must say something? before you go paying 15 quid a set, check out amazon, i'm not spamming there just good prices. or try stringsdirect . com ernie balls for a fiver! come on friend, you're not trying.
When I think of Toto I think of Judy Garland's dog in 'Over The Rainbow'
Like you, this is the only song that I like from Toto.
Roger
Sorry Roger, I disagree. This about the only song from Toto I don't like very much. But this version has changed my mind, hate to admit it but it is brilliant, loved every second of it rain, thunder, drums, bass, harmonies the lot. I will be returning to this and the other songs they've done.
