Re: Recording basics? (28 replies, posted in Recording)
I'm just curious as to why overdrive and distortion don't sound like, well, overdrive and distortion on Audacity. It seems all I can get is a clean sound, with stuff like reverb, delay, phaser, etc. Anyone else notice this?

Re: Frills (6 replies, posted in Acoustic)
It's sure not the easiest way, as guitarists are a lazy lot who like to have a song tabbed out perfectly right in front of them. Unfortunately, when searching internet tabs, there's many that are incorrect or someone's "own version" of a song. My advice is to listen to the song carefully with your guitar, and try to figure it out by ear. It's more work, but also more rewarding. Good luck.

I'm in the process of becoming a lead player...I'm ok at fingerstyle acoustic stuff, and lead acoustic picking, and I'm working on my electric playing. It seems to be a lot harder.

Hi 06sc500
Very well written.Your lyrics flow very nice.
I am still pretty green at writing so I'll have to search up how to play the chords you have used.
If you could put them in Chopro format it would be easier for us newbies.
In a previous post I noticed you said you have a spot on at MySpace.If so please post the link so we could hear it as it was meant to be played.Good Song

I'll try to record soon....but I don't have a mic for my computer. I have a friend who has some recordig equipment, so maybe I can record it using his stuff.

I tried that...of course I don't have a clue what I'm doing. How do I get these things onto my effects menu? All I want is to be able to get distortion as an effect.

Re: Recording basics? (28 replies, posted in Recording)
Did you download the tutorials? ok the first thing you will have to do is open the audacity program next you will have to click "edit" and scroll down to preferences and click that on and make sure the box that says "play other tracks while recording new ones is checked and click "ok" now on the right of the audacity screen there is a a picture of a small microphone and next to it is a arrow pointing down click on this arrow and a dropdown screen will appear click on "monitor input" and turn your volume on your guitar up and if you don't see any red meters moving after you play a chord click on the little microphone you should get some meter movement this tells you there is a signal comming in so all you have to do is put on your headset and click "record" the little red button in the row of buttons and start playing your will see a wave form,that is your guitar so record what you want and click the "stop" button and then click the 1st button "skip to start (thats rewind) and press the one next to it the "play"and you should hear what you recorded,to add a new track all you have to do is click record and it will play the track you recorded while recording a new one after you have recorded all the tracks you will have to pan them that control is on the left with the track volume for each track just move them so the vocals are in the center and the guitars are left and right and when your finished click "file" and select "export as a mp3" a screen will come up and ask you for the name and thats all you have to enter click ok and wait the audacity program will send a mp3 file to your "my documents" or just "documents" and if your not satisfied you can do a "quick mix" from the edit screen but before you get into the effects or editing make sure you have a mp3 sent to your files and it will ask you do you want to "save" this project in your satisfied with the results say no if not you can always remix or re record and if you run into any snags give a holler russell

Hey, thanks, I watched the first tutorial, that's all I need for now. I figured it out, and recorded some stuff, but how do I get overdrive/distortion as an effect on there?

If I download that Audacity program, can I plug my electric into the computer and record? If I want to do acoustic stuff or vocals what kind of mic should I get? Sorry, I have no experience in recording.

I borrowed the Cry Baby Original from a friend over the weekend, and I have to question why it's worth $70. What does it do besides one "wah" sound that can barely even be heard on single notes? Is it just this one, or are all Original Cry Babies limited to one sound?

Well, tonight I played until I worked up a sweat....whew! I switched between several exercises. I tried to get Little Wing to sound as good as possible, played all the way through Cliffs of Dover veeeerrrrry slowly-while making sure to alternate pick when needed. I spent a good amount of time on tapping, and I timed myself while I tapped out a series of 3 notes for 2 minutes (not much, but man, was my hand hurting!). I also spent some time playing through a neo-classical style scale while making sure to alternate pick each note. Wow, that was just my actual "practice" for the night. Other time was spent just jamming on power chords , riffs, and working on my SRV blues-style licks (ie Texas Flood intro and Honey Bee intro). I'd say an evening well-spent! This probably is not much compared to what you veterans out there do lol...hopefully stuff like this will eventually pay off....

Hey guys. I'll be looking at getting a wah pretty soon, and I was wondering who could offer me some advice on what to look for. I think the one I like more than any of the others is the Ibanez Weeping Demon. I've read excellent reviews on it, maybe I'll see if my local guitar store has one to try. Anyone use this pedal? I read it's a lot better than the Cry Baby.

Re: Boss pedals (8 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I use and love Boss pedals. Here's how i run mine;
Guitar>Boss tuner>Boss Compressor/Sustain>Boss EQ(for solo boost)> Boss Phase Shifter(spacey,chorus,flange,envelope filter,wah sound)>Boss EQ( leave on all of the time)>Boss RC20-XL Loop Station>Mackie unpowered mixer>Marshall 50Watt Soloist> Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiator Loudspeaker System (1,400 watts) or for smaller venues I'll use a Behringer 45 watt acoustic Amp instead of the Bose. Also, I use a DC power source
for my pedals (2) , I connect the tuner, comp/sus/eq,env.filt,and eq. I have a seperate power source for the loop. I like the reliability of the direct power source as opposed to batteries. My amps are set pretty much at 12 oclock and my EQ is adjusted from my mixer. The volume is determined by the size of venue I'm playing.
There's my secret formula for my live sound and I swear by Boss pedals. I've tried many different brands and I always find myself going back to my Boss pedals, They're durable, reliable, easy to operate, and sound amazing.Peace and Guitars,
SouthPaw41Lps-distortion sucks!!!! It burys the beautiful tones that acoustic guitars send out. You wanna play metal or hard rock get a distortion pedal. If you're playing acoustic music, distortion is the ultimate nemesis.
I understand that. Yeah, I too love the tones that come from an acoustic, but sometimes you just need a heavier sound that an acoustic can't give. By the way, my playing style ranges from John Denver to Yngwie Malmsteen (though I can't play any Malmsteen stuff yet
)
