Nela the hand will take a long time they have more moving parts, best too do as the doctor tells you.

I agree. It makes lots of sense frustrating as it might be. Your hands are only as good as their weakest part. If you have a broken finger, your grip is not what it should be. In your case, the tendons/surgery affect your whole hand. Therapy is the only way you'll make any progress. It must be very hard to just all of the sudden stop using your hands. I can't even imagine what that's like. We're rooting for you Nela.

A customer of mine had  to have surgery to repair a torn hamstring. Her leg will be immobile for 6 weeks. It starts off in a cast bent at 90 degrees or more. Two weeks later it gets re-casted in a less of a bend. Then two more weeks, a re-casted again in less of a bend. After 6 weeks she can start therapy. A hamstring is not something you want to mess with.

I'll have to check it out. Great that he's still out there doing it. I must say tho, alot of these guys are getting old and losing their chops. Saw Dokken a couple years ago and Don Dokken sounded baaaaaad.

To put it bluntly, I think it's you. You'll have to learn a diff method 'cuz blowing out a string every time you play just isn't gonna work. Just because it's called a percussive doesn't mean it's a drum and a chop doesn't mean to cut your stings.  Hiyah!!!!!

I wish I was wise enough to take my own advice.  It's really good.

If you do say so yourself. Do you pat yourself on the back while you play? That would be an awesome talent!!!

Your pick grip might be putting too much pick on the strings. Shouldn't be like this:

More like this:

also you shouldn't be muscling the strum with your elbow. Nice light snappy wrist motion.

I disagree Baldy. I always hold my pick like this:

It's very loose and I have more control of heavy and light strumming. It allows the pick to give a little. With just a nub sticking out my finger would hit the strings and it would always be loud.

You might be over thinking the new strum. It's really no different than what you already know. Like you said, take it slow until you can get it.

Obviously we are all guessing because we don't know her. But I'm thinking some sort of learning issue also.

I don't know about everyone else, but I don't know tones and such. I know very few notes on the fretboard. I only know my chords by shape. So 5 years in, for me anyway, theory doesn't come up alot.

Happy Father's Day to all. Go enjoy a little strummin' time all to yourself.

I love my Yamahas. I played a friends FG700S a few years ago and really liked it so I went looking for one. I came across an FG730S and snatched it up. I also have an FG Jr. It's a 3/4 size of the FG family. Can't go wrong with a Yami!!!!

But yeah, what Beamer said......

Hi Gus!!! Welcome to the Chordie machine.

When I first learned the A chord it was the 3 finger version. But this past year I switched to a 1 finger barr A. I use my middle finger to barr all three strings. I still use the normal A too, but the 1 finger version works out nicely too. Give it a go.

When it rains it pours, literally for you. It will all blow over. Look at all the things that have gone/are going right. Keep plugging along and remember who you lean on for support.

Great find Chevo!!!! I'll be checking this out.

I've been "chopping" since I first learned to play. I thought it was cool and gives a little more feel. I have never broken a string doing it tho and I run 11's on all my 'tars.

I saw him back in 2002 I think it was. It was a double bill, Mellencamp and Fogerty. I went to see Mellencamp but man Fogerty blew me away. He was so full of energy and he rocked the dump. I think he is one of those guys that everyone knows is great but he doesn't get a lot of mention.

I watched a vid lesson from Joe Bonamassa a while back and it wasn't very good. He kinda just played stuff and said do this.

I have a Yamaha FG junior that is pretty small. Plays nice just like my other Yammis. The Ibanez Daytripper is a smaller scale too. Haven't played the Ibanez tho.

Nice!!!! It sounds like nothing but good. Learning, playing, different passions. Good for you DE. If just one of those students gets inspired then it was all worth it.

One question tho, 8th grade at an elementary school?
