hi len, welcome to chordie. the only advice i could give is to check it out on-line. if you require more "high street" info, you should put down your location in the world as chordie membership is world wide.
FYI; i remember a next gen episode where jean luc playes a flute, so there's your band
as the guy in the shop told me "the 58's a unidirectional (you can still be heard form the sides) the 57's got to be head on, which is aparently why rock singers use them. i move around too much, i'd miss most of my vocals. move my head without moving my legs that is...thought i'd clear that up ![]()
i was in school with a guy that turned out to be a music teacher later on in life, but during the 70's when i decided i wanted to play bass he gave me a great tip (he played double bass in a jazz band at the time) he said less is more.
undoubtedly john entwistle was one of the worlds greatest bassists along with chris squire of yes, you play your instrument to compliment the music whether it be bass or any other instrument. as the who were a three piece and townsend was not one of the best guitarists or kieth moon a steady timekeeper, the part he played needed to be almost a lead instrument, a role he played well.
i cant imagine "yesterday" being played with an entwistle riff banging away.
claw finger is a really baddie if your a guitar player, where the pinkies mainly curl in, and it's attributed to the vikings believe it or not? i've got arthur in my knees and toes and some at the top and bottom of my spine, makes bending to adjust FX pedals during a gig very painful. thankfully, though i have stiff fingers occasionally so that i have to pull them till they click, i've not had too many probs with the old digits
i have a few sure's, but my favorite is a beyrdynamic TG-X60. it has the deeper response that i like. before that i had a sure, i keep that so others can use it which was to replace a yamaha mic which was the best i've ever had or heard, it conked out but it's still in a drawer cos i cant bear to throw it away, and someone may be able to fix it some day...ever the optimist....
hey beamer,
1st, yep often use it on Status Quo, 50's rock or any heavier songs that require a harmony in the chorus etc.
2nd, guitar goes straight into the Digitech then into FX. even though the harmonies are controled by the volume on the Digi they are also governed by your guitar volume which is why i leave the guitar volume on full and use the vol pedal on my ME 50. the vocal signal does not go into your processor chain, there's a seperate out to PA.

hi roger, i've been using one for about 2 years now and i think it's great value, the only downer is that though it has reverb it doesnt have echo, and you some times need it! to be honest i heard someone else use one and thought it sounded great, as you can get that eagles sound or the everleys harmony as long as your guitar stays in tune. i can recomend it.

i was fascinated by the vids and during the first one i thought thats a job i'd be happy doing, just sitting round playing and talking guitars with the boss.
the one where they show the wires being drawn down to size is what i used to do but with copper wire for electric cables, but basically the same thing.
any samples?
hi amy, i deliberately haven't read what the other guys have said not to colour what i want to say.
you say you may join a band...great, you also mention a sound guy with a large mixing desk, even better. then you want advice on mics and amps for your guitar and vocal?
so if this mixer guy has a big mixer and presumably a large PA system to go with it, why would you need a personal amp? my advice would be (if he does have a PA system) get a decent pick-up or mic and plug directly into the PA. you should also get a better sound than a guitar amp.
it's always worth buying a good vocal mic.
if he doen't have a PA, bigger is always best, as you can turn down for small venues, but if you have a small system you cant turn up for bigger ones! and plug your guitar into it as well.
looking forward to hearing some band recordings.

hi jimmy,
i notice you say that you sing it with your daughter, so when do we get to hear it?
thanks jimmy, i didn't actually get a ticket, that would cost me 100 pounds and 3 points on my clean lisense, which i've held for 40 years, so i opted for a speed awareness course for which i pay 80 pounds and no points. if you get (i think) 13 points you get banned for a year or till the first points elapse then your insurance costs an arm and a leg! hence "slow down"
phill
i've uploaded 2 new tracks 1 called " no money for a hotel" it's about identity fraud. and 1 about speeding, "slow down" cos i got caught...naughty me. please give them a listen, 1 is sorta blues-ish no 2 is rocky. i'll post the words if anyone wants to see the words and chords, they're both quite simple.
hi dino, walmart has a uk branch called asda, and they sell house, car and life insurance as well as lots of other finacial stuff like credit cards. i'm not with them my self but with a competitor called tesco which are another supermarket, i find their sevices are good and recomend them to anyone. of course they could be totally different in the us! check them out first.

hi beamer, if this is the prog you were thinking of, with jimmy page and the edge and a third guy i cant remember the name of (shame on me) it was very good veiwing, we had it on TV, sky arts 1, and if they do the usual, it's play again, it's well worth a watch, and you were right youtube has pulled it at least in the UK.

it's only now that i've retired that i can afford it. but i'm only going to buy stuff i really need, and to be honest i dont need another guitar as i have 7; 2 acoustics, 1- 12 string, 1 bass, a strat, a kort (yuk) and my beloved tele, that's enough for any retirement?
You can never have too many guitars!
so many guitars but only two hands, isnt God cruel?
Nice one Phill! Good story song, with a nice hook.
As I was reading the words I was thinking more bluesy. I think you did a good job of it with a country feel though!
I like the chorus effects. What software is it that you use?
woops! i didn't realize i'd put any chorus fx on there....? it's most likely that i'd used a 12 string guitar on one channel and a six string on the other. having said that i recorded all the tracks, (about 8 maximum) on my DP24, then transferred them to a paid for program called Ableton, on which i used their mixer and EQ. you may be able to get a cut-down version off the net...Ableton Live 8. comes with full instructions.

excellent, very emotive. great voice/guitar and recording. i'm jealous....
Phill
I like like it a lot , even though " besotted" is $50 word that I had to look up. I guess I would be stuck with obsessed or infatuated with if I was writing it - but now i am a bit smarter thanks to you
Can't wait to hear it.
The verse
"And I can say with utmost certainty.
She will make you want her constantly. " reminds of the guitar you wanted for so long - and then when you got it in you hands the feeling wasn't there.![]()
Good work my friend
Jim
hi jim, just click website, sorry i got a little high brow with the words, but that's how they came to me. i cant decide if it's a warning to someone or a character assassination? answers on a post card......
I like it phill, discribes my ex- wife very well.I fingerpicked it in a blues unpluged style and it sounds good. It probley sounds good country style also.
my ex too! i've tried it in a rock and/or pop style but it didn't work (for me) i don't know if anyone realises but it is on my-space if you'd like to click web on the left
Phil,
I noted a bit of hidden wordplay,
"And when she had her fill, she moved on to you."
When she had her fill of Phill, eh?
i was wondering if anyone would notice that, it just tickled my fancy
i have a theory that explains all the spam that no one reads or wants.
there are internet companies that pay surfers to plant this muck anywhere they can, it matters not that the forums accross the web are nothing to do with what they are selling or that no one will read it, they just get handed their 30 pieces of silver and they go away happy. when they get banned they just get another email address and do it again.
thanks to all our diligent members who report them, cos if we cant get rid of them then there'll be no room for relevent conversation.

Ahhh... Kind of like that fantasy that once acted out isn't as good in real life as it was in your head huh? Um, wait... no, don't read into that. Or do. Whatever. LOL! Sorry to hear it wasn't quite what you'd dreamed of Phill!!
your so right, most young guys have pictures of gorgeous semi naked women on their walls, i had pictures of john's rickie. whne i saw it in the shop, it looked so.....pick me up and buy me. so i picked it up and felt sick. the weight was all wrong, it played like a cheap uke. flat frett board...no, no, no!
they had a semi version which was everything the black one wasn't, but i'm not going to buy that either, or i might.....
I had the chance too buy one years ago but did not have the cash, wish I would have got a small lone for it,they are worth a lot now and real good guitars.
