Okay so this one's just something stupid I worte yesterday, the chorus is basically the chorus from 'will the circle be unbroken', so it has an upbeat bluegrassish rythym.
Part of its an inside joke about my old arch nemesis, a hefty neighbor who enjoyed causing mischief and revealing her pale round flesh....

Chordpro error: This is not a valid artistname. You will have to specify an artistname in the form {st: Artistname} in the beginning of the code.

Like I said its silly and ridiculous but its actually alot of fun to play and sing.

A while back somebody suggested I look up this band, and I did, and I liked them, but I can't find the CDs anywhere!! Where can you find them?? Is my neck of the woods just not stocking them, or do you have to order them off the internet?

I wish I COULD stay in that spot all the time. Actually I did write another song just a few minutes after this one, but it was called 'nekkid' and didn't make a whole lot of sense....

I hold your face inside my hands
your heart inside my head.

acceptance of what is.

This is a great song Old Doll. Of course, everytime you post one I like it.... I'm kind of having a hard time feeling the rythym of this line:

some have gathered music
other memories left to rust.

Maybe you're pronouncing it mem-reez? Anyway the whole thing is great, of course my favorite part I posted at the beginning. Thats an awesome line.

I am so lazy, but  give me first that cheese

Well doc, since you said you wanted help with getting your words right, I reckon I'll throw my two cents in....
I think maybe it should say:

I'm so lazy, but first give me that cheese

Thats how you would say it if you were just talking in english.
Besides that it all looks good. Kind of crazy but I like those every once in a while, maybe I'll post my 'nekkid' song this non sense mood is starting to rub off big_smile
Anyway, holler if you need sumthin,
LR

bonedaddy,
First of all I'm sure I'm flattered, but thank you all the same. Secondly, remember that sometimes simplicity makes the best kind of song. Sweet Home Alabama started with the chords D C G, think of the blues songs that follow the old 12 bars pattern, and then of course country is a great example.  Even alot of Willie's most poetic songs are a simple F Bb and G pattern.

Bonedaddy,I'm glad you posted this cuz thats exactly why I hadn't said it yet....
Anyway on a more serious note, my very sincere condoleces.  hae a cousin who's vey close, like a brother, who was born with spinebifeda and later got a brain tumor. He should have been dead a long time ago so nobody knows how long he has, we do know his kidneys are starting to shut down and the MRI's on the tumor didn't look good this time.
Can't tell you the hours and hours I've spent in a hospital room.... he too loves music, actually really likes metallica too, but his all time favorite is Hank Williams Jr. They wanted to get him an autograph for his 18th year (a miracle in itself), so his mom wrote him a letter explaining thier situation and how they couldn't afford to pay for one, but it would mean the world if they could get an autograph. When he got it in the mail I thought he was pass out he was so excited, "To Paul Jr from Hank JR"....He told me a few weeks ago that he didn't have long, so I answered with the usual 'aw come on man thats what they said 4 years ago.." and he said something Ive never heard him say before 'Yeah but I'm tired"...
Anyway I write all this to say that in a way (probably not to the same extent) understand how you must feel. Even though its sad that he passed away, you have to make peace with that fact at some point before it ever happens, and appreciate the amazing life they were allowed to live. I've had more fun with Paul than anybody in my whole life, and learned alot from him too. So I say to you, my sincerest condolences.....

peace in the valley is a hymn, several country artists have performed it, but you could easily find it in a hymnal somewhere. I've always liked that song. Not sure about the two bluegrass songs, but alot of songs in that genre are traditional spirituals...
One I would like at my funeral 'Mansion Over the Hilltop', kind of bouncy and upbeat for a funeral but the words seem appropriate.
'...and like the prophet my pillow a stone, and though I find here no permanent dwelling I know He'll give me a mansion my own...'

Hey
Aint it time yet?
I'm so tired of this s***,
Can't we let it go?
Hey,
I'm not the one who said it
I'm not the kind to forfeit
By now you oughta know...

If runnin's
what you wanted
Then take off,(pause) and let it be
I'll be fine
You won't be on my mind
cuz I'm young, and I'm free

Hey
Don't try those same old lines
I've heard a thousand times
I'm not that dumb
Hey
Don't try to turn the blame
I've got a good name
For one so young

If runnin's what you wanted
Then take off, and let it be
I'll be fine
You won't even cross my mind
I'll be gone and I'll be free

Hey
I'm nearly grown now
And I don't know how
You don't see
Hey
I see right through you
All the hell that I've been through
Made this out of me

If runnin's what you wanted
Then take off, and let it be
I'll be fine
You won't even cross my mind
I'll be gone and I'll be free

Just wrote that one on the spot, figgered I might as well post. Yall take it easy,

I guess this in the right place...

Anyway, just out of curiosity who are some artists/songwriters that the chordian songwriters listen to for inspiration (or just to go dang I wish I could write like that...)?

For me its alot of the American Recordings by Johnny Cash, songs by  Kris Kristofferson, or some older Willie Nelson, those will make me want to write something everytime.
Then of course I love those great blues one liners that say so much without having to say much you know? Like 'I've got a good mind to give up livin'.....'

amazing grace is probably the most well known hymn of all time, I guess thats why a lot of people have it at funerals. 'Go rest high' is a country song which was extremely popular during the nineties (in america anyway), the music can be bought at christian bookstores in convenient packaging because its so commonly used in funerals.... 'roun here anyhow...

'go rest high
on that mountain
son you're work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Look for the father and the son'

I have never been to a funeral that didn't play 'go rest high on that mountain' by vince gill....

I have the 'junkert', kind of an east texas word for a crappy old car, but it seemed appropriate. Haven't named my new takamine yet, guess I ought to come up with something....
I've noticed alot of guitars with female names.... interesting. Being a female player I've always associated my guitars with a more masculine persona.

I agrre with john, the Strat is a good place to start off. I have a squire strat which is nice too if the Fender price is too high. And of course any les paul is awesome, but it really depends on what style you're wanting to play. For a country style you can't beat a tele, for heavy stuff you might even look into washburns.... just try a few out and see which sound you like.

While I play around with the electric from time to time, I really love the acoustic guitar and I love the sound of electric songs converted to acoustic, unfortunately not all of them sound so great. What are some songs some of yall have had a good time playing on acoustic that were originally intended for electric? (Trying to build a bigger repetoire so to speak).
I do a slowed down version of Sweet Home Alabama, an acoustic cover of .45 and Santa Monica, Every Rose works well too.....

I think its awesome big_smile although I agree with upyerkilt about the 'we went on' line, I think maybe it just needs an explanation to make sense? Another verse would be great, because I love the flow of the lyrycs. Normally I pick a favorite line, but the whole thing runs along together nicely, maybe I'll get the guitar out and try the chords, lets see C#m...........

I got a sweet new tuner with a built in chord finder. it can also be set to tune down. I got a pack of .73's too but they're a little stiff for my tastes...
