Yeah, wlbaye, I had forgotten about that one.  I love Neil Young anyway.  And you're right about looking them in the eye when you sing.  That's part of singing to her soul.  Thanks

Thought I would bump this up since it goes along with SongforSarah's request.  I guess I am not alone trying to find good love songs.

I did the same thing most of my life. Played a month or two, then quit for a few years and started the same thing all over again.  It's hard to learn that way for sure.  You just have to find a way to stay interested and keep at it.  It takes almost daily practice to keep it together and really get better.  Once you notice yourself getting better, you may remain interested for longer periods.  I know there are a lot of other things in our life that get in the way of learning guitar, but you have to set some goals.  Good luck.

Welcome Steve.  You sound like you're doing fine.  Practice your chord changes a lot.  There are a lot of chords there to play lots of songs.  Add a new chord once in a while as you come across them.  It'll come to you in time.  The more practice, the better you get.  Good luck and let us know how you are doing from time to time.

Some people just can't handle fame as well as others.  There are many over the years who have either drugged out or died because of their cause and fame.  It's a shame really.  Who knows how we would handle it if we were famous.  We'd like to think we would be alright, but who knows?

That song was always a favorite of mine.

That's an easy one, Zurf.  You were so excited being out with your wife that your heartrate increased.  Admit it, she was looking good that day.  Seriously, I hope you are alright.  hang in there, bud.  There are lots of unusual aches and pains as we get older.

Get used to it, Syd.  That is the way life is going to be forever.  You will run into this kind of problem for the rest of your life.  Just look at it as a learning tool on how to cope with business, jobs or anything else you do in your life.  Good luck.  You'll get it straightened out.

topdown is correct.  Get the feeling of the song and strum any pattern that sounds good to you.  You patterns will change and you will get better with practice.

Dang, nope, she's from Russia.  A case of bad mistaken identity

There are lots of songs with 3 chords or so.  It just takes a lot of practice everyday to get your chord fingers to remember where they should be.  Just practice changing from one chord to another.  Over and over and over.  You'll find yourself getting better before you know it.  Good luck.

Welcome.  Always happy when someone new comes in here.  The best advice is stick around here to see what you can learn and practice, practice, practice.  With lots of practice everyday, if you can, you will see and hear a difference over time.  Good luck.

When you write the lyrics and chords the chords are written between the lyrics, but the Chordpro program puts them above the lyrics.  I'm not sure that explains it for you.

I still cheat wit hsome chords B,Bm, F, C#m, even A and Gm and probably a few more.
I have been playing for roughly 18 years and I still get away with it.

It is maybe best to try and do the chords properly but not essential.

Ken

Yep, same as me.  I've been doing it so long, it's hard to change, even if I tried.  They sound fine to me.  Whatever gets you through the night, upyerkilt.

You can certainly do it anyway you are comfortable with that makes basic music, but I also wouldn't advise you to start with the shortcuts because it will be very hard to undo later on.  I use short cuts with B and Bm and they sound good with my singing, but I never try to learn the right way because I have gotten too used to doing it the wrong way.  Try to push yourself up front and hang in there.  With practice, it will all become easier before you know it.  And do cut your nails.  If I don't cut mine regularly it makes it harder to play without really noticing it.  When I cut them, it is very noticeable.  Dolly Parton plays with very long nails and I never did quite figure out how she holds down a chord with them, but I am sure it would take a lot of extra practice to get that down correctly.  Just another obstacle in your way while learning.

Another smaller guitar with great sound, so I hear, is the Baby Martin.  I haven't heard a bad Martin and you can get it for $299.  Just a thought.

Yeah, you're right, Wlbaye.  I sure do admire those who just pick up the guitar and play almost anything you name.  They just have what it takes and I don't.  Like I said, I'm OK with it.  I just get my notebook full of songs out and start playing.  No one seems to mind.

I have the same problem.  It seems no matter how well I know the words of a song, I still have to see the words and chords to do the song.  Once you've gotten used to doing it that way, it is very hard to change it.  Not that it can't be done.  I figure if a person can use sheet music on a piano, then I can use it when playing the guitar and singing.  It's more of a hassle to get the music and guitar out and all situated, but I live with it.
