I didn't see the 12 string in the Chordie sale forum.  I've been wanting a 12 string, but things are a bit tight right now.  I've had to do some unexpected traveling and dipped deep to help out a friend in need.  He'll pay me back, but it could take a few years given how the economy is sucking wind right now.

Geez, he did great.  I hear a lot of fourth graders singing.  He really did a good job for his peer group with singing, and then add in that he strummed the song and he's doing better than a lot of us can do for the first year or so of playing.  That was nice to hear.

It's automatic based on the number of posts one has made.  I don't know the cut-offs.

Sounds like an excellent idea to me!  I'd rather see a guy with a little weight on him, than a scrawny lil thing with nothing.  Men are lucky that way.  tongue

Hey!  Don't speak for all guys.  I prefer curvy.

BGD, I loved the way you expressed yourself in that post.  Very entertaining and well written.  Also, I think the sense behind it is right on target.  I love resistance exercises too, but I don't do heavy.  I much prefer lots of reps at low weight.  When I was using weights, I set a goal of 10,000lbs moved per session.  Any combination of weight x reps that got me to 10,000 was what I used.  I generally used light weights, lots of reps, and ssssssslllllllloooooooowwww movement.  I also frequently got to 13,000 or 14,000 pounds per session.  That got me a great workout, didn't exacerbate the arthritis in my shoulders too badly, and gives me the strength I need for the sorts of activities I prefer.  I can lift boats off of roofs, carry them to the river, paddle or row all day, then still pick the boat up and put it back on the car roof at the end of the day.  That's what I'm after.  But if I'm around, that baby is in trouble.  I won't be lifting any cars (unless it's a Metro or a Yugo).

My legs are naturally very powerful, for which I'm grateful.  I don't work them at all and I have all the strength I need.  Even biking or hiking, it's my lungs or shoulders that give out before my legs.

Keep up the good work and please keep checking in with us and use us for accountability.

It's a near constant assault now.  I think I've banned someone every day this week (except today), and on Thursday morning of last week I banned seven people, then had a different moderator come along and ban someone who I wasn't so sure about (he turned out to be a spammer extra-ordinaire, so much for compassion, eh?).  Before last week, I don't think I've banned more than one spammer a month.

I read that the FBI and Interpol just cracked some major code used by spam-bots in Eastern Europe and the Phillipines (where much of the spammers I've banned were from).  That could help relatively soon, but it takes a while for them to filter through all the chaffe to find the controlled computers.

Uh, yes, well, you see there's this one fellow in Virginia, USA who has ... uh... he's received it you see, and uh, this fellow... who we'll leave nameless for the moment... this fellow has been a bit ... shall we say "delinquent" in getting the music copied to his computer. So... it's just... uh... well... it's just sitting there waiting for it's next victim across the pond.

LOL.  If you think it's absolutely necessary.  Perhaps we should have an award, call it a Chordy, that we pass around, each of us taking a turn at being the resident "problem."  :-)

The spammers are driving me nuts, but it's also got a little bit of thrill to ban them.  Almost like feeling a tug at the end of the line.  You are right Amy about the good people who contribute to our international rap session who make me want to serve them as moderator.  I've had to send out a gentle reminder of the rules on rare occaision, but out of the many thousands of people registered and active we have not got one "problem" member that I know of.  That's awesome!  Musicians rock.

I think certain people just have "charisma". A presence that others look at as confidence. I can only guess that it gets better the more you do it.

DJ, you are where you are in your guitar journey. Look at where you were 2 years ago. You've learned lots and there is still lots to learn. It doesn't matter how good you get, you always look at others and think they're better. As long as you like it and are having fun. Don't compare yourself with others, everyone is different. Did you put a time limit on your goal? If so, what does it really matter?  Maybe it will take you 2 more years before you think you're good. So be it. If you continue then you will accomplish.

I heard that Jimi Hendricks always thought highly of his 'rhythm' guitarist (who went on to found ZZ Top) and said that if you wanted to hear a 'real guitar player' that he was the one to listen to instead.

Eric Clapton said of Stevie Ray Vaughan, "We didn't play together near enough.  Every time I heard him play, I knew that I was in the presence of greatness."

So if Jimi Hendricks and Eric Clapton still listen to other guys play and think, "Wow.  They're really good.  I wish I could play like that," then I suppose it's also a perfectly acceptable thought for we amateurs and beginners.

Nice.  If I ever get a larger house, I'll likely buy a set of electronic drums and probably some percussion things (congas, bongo, djembe, etc.).  My kids go to the music store and have a great time on the drum sets.  My eldest has wanted to play drums for a long, long time, but I keep telling her that she needs exposure to the rudiments of music (beat, time, scales, etc.) before she can take on something as complex as drumming.  She's going to piano camp this summer, so if she takes to piano and shows some good left hand work, then drums are a strong possibility sometime in our future.

Check back in and let us know how it goes.  Especially Gabbytrout's band.  There's not much more exciting than hearing or seeing your kids express themselves artistically.

Yeah.  I'm really looking forward to it.  I don't know whether my kids will be able to make it.  They're at piano camp all week and then have parties to attend on the weekend.  Their social calendar is much more jam packed than mine (or than mine ever was).

That's awesome NELA!  I don't how you could do it with all that good food in Louisiana.  I'm shooting for 210 as well, and coming from about the same max weight.  I am glad that I did not have a heart attack, but I did get to spend a weekend in the cardio unit while they convinced themselves of it which was as close as I'd like to get.

My heritage goes back to there. Somewhere along the line I'm related to the house of tudors. Not exactly the best royal family one could hope to be related to but oh well. We can chose our friends but we can't chose our family.

I beleive HenryVIII could play the Lute by ear..... big_smile
Well come to Chordie.

Sadly, it was someone else's ears.  Or they were until he chose to claim them.

FINALLY!  I have gotten off the 246 plateau.  April, May, and June at the same weight was killing me.  One vanilla milk shake binge and a lot of exercise later, I have gotten off it.  I'm hoping for under 240 before the July River Jam.  With this, I am officially more than 20 pounds off the starting weight, with roughly 30 to go to my ideal weight and 20 to go for my "I can live with this" weight.  At 210, I get another kayak because I already have it in the shed and no one uses it because it's too aggressive of a boat but the maximum weight on it is 210 pounds.

That giving up booze thing didn't last long.  I've cut back surely, but not given up entirely.

Well last night I was in a hotel, so that may have been a bit annoying.  Plus I didn't bring a guitar (silly me).  I'm going to drop in on a music store today, though.

And I hope to catch a nap.  Having bouts with insomnia again.  I wonder if it has to do with the increase in exercise, whether my thyroid is pumping out some "Hey shouldn't you be out looking for food" hormones or something, because I don't really feel all that tired despite not getting more than a few hours of sleep each night for the past few nights.

I banned a bunch of new members for spamming this morning, and hopefully caught all of their posts that were in forums I don't moderate to report them.  However, if you come across a post that's spam, please use the report button on the bottom right corner of the post so that a member of the moderating team can see it and delete it.  Thanks.
