ive heard of false harmonics but never the term "pinch" the artifical harmonics can be created by holding your pick close to the end of your thumb and picking the string and muteing at the same time to get a sustained higher note smile

I usually record the acoustic guitar first and add the vocal later but if you need to play while you sing it could be done several ways, one would be to use an electric guitar another would be to place the microphone close to the acoustic guitars sound hole if that's what your useing and sing quiet then record the vocal and place the microphone closer to your mouth,it would be easier if you had two microphones then you could do both at the same time,if your vocals sound bassier mix the mid range higher and adjust the frequency range of the highs or just adjust the bass by reducing the frequency and the position of the microphone will not affect the frequency of your voice that has to be adjusted before you record or it can be done after depending on your equipment,i would need to know what kind of recorder and microphone your useing also if your useing a audio program like audacity, because with audacity you can record and use the "equalization" feature after recording by highlighting the entire track and selecting "equalization" from the "effects" menu at the top of the audacity screen, a drop down graph will appear with a straight line the area to the right is treble and the area to the left is bass you can use your curser to move the line up or down at selected points these are the frequency ranges if there's to much bass lower the line on the left etc. if you still need help or dont understand something ask away smile

So, is it common place to record a guitar track first, then the vocals? I cant seem to sing unless I have a guitar in my hands. Also, does in anybody have any tips on mixing? My vocals always come out sounding deeper ( bassier?) then what my voice really sounds like. Will mixing help this, or is it the microphones position? I know I'm asking alot but any help would be apperitated.

they make portable mp3 players (I have one) some have speakers large enough for what you want to do or a karaoke machine (used or new) has a feature to cue up tracks in the order you want and there not to expensive smile

Al The Nero program is just the ticket for your project just put all the finished mp3's in a folder and open them with Nero,my copy lets you listen to the songs and arrange the order with your cursor by moving each song up or down and set the time between each song and the picture of the lady is not old doll but I have a photo of her when she was a younger lass and she was just as beautiful smile

Russell I've got the ME-50 and it's nice for a lot of reasons.  You can cut volume with footpedal to unplug and change instruments without any noise, you can check tuning, the wah pedal is sweet, and it was my first intro to looping (but only 2 seconds).  Maybe we can get some discussions going on how we can use it more effectively.  It's prob able to do so much more than I do with it.  Anyway congrats and have fun.   Steve

love it James but you forgot to mention masons(I'm not sure of the spelling) I think there sub atomic particles but you sure got the rest lol question, I believe matter and the universe is infinite without and within because it seems the more we are able to look into the universe we keep discovering new galaxies and the more we are able to look through more powerful means of the minute universe of matter we keep discovering new particles, you could go crazy coming to grips with the fact that our "solid bodies"break down to all the things in your song even our thoughts are electrical particles and when we pass away our bodies change there molecular structure but matter cannot be destroyed only altered so we will still be part of something and our essence of awareness will be somewhere also, sorry to ramble on like this the molecules in my synapses made me do it lol you got me thinking with your lyrics smile

I was at the music store I ordered a new mixer and took my old broken one back they gave me a set of elixir strings for it which was a good deal as it was worthless I saw this brand new effects pedal still in the box I paid only $150.00 for it (my discount) it sells normally for around $275.00 so I got it at cost or close to it,this is one great pedal I'm having a ball and my next amp I may get the one with the loop feature just for fun lol I had a windfall the state sent me a check for $370.00 for homestead credit yipppeee!  lol so I had some mad money to play with for a change I'm looking forward to recording with the effects smile

Thank you for the nice words deadstring and the "lady O'Donovan" is some gal to be sure lol but I composed the song for Helena O'Donovan we call her "Old Doll" on Chordie she is from Dublin Ireland and a good friend to everyone on Chordie, putting together a CD is not that much of a hassle, yes it will take a little time but you will benefit from the experience and get to know your way around the audacity program and have a  good CD to boot.Another thing is if you have a program like Nero it will take all the songs and mix the volumes equal and separate them by two seconds between songs I think windows media player will do a good job also so my advice is take the time to do this you will be glad you did smile

deadstring all you have to do is hit the red button on audacity and stop the recording then convert it to mp3 and cue up the next song you will have to make a individual mp3 for each song if you just let the album play whats going to happen is it will take an eternity for audacity to mix and render all these songs to 1 mp3 so you will be required to close and open audacity for each song and after you have all the songs as individual mp3's use your media player to assemble a list and burn the list to a CD,that simple smile

deadstring wrote:

Russell the albums do have silent spaces in between each song but I didn't know if it would be recognized as separate tracks or one long MP3. In other words, If I recorded one side of a 33 1/3 album all at once, after I burn it to a disk would it show up as 1 track or several? And by the way, is it legal to back up my old music collection to discs?

hi deadstring if the song from the album is not divided into separate tracks then you have to make a individual mp3 for each song so the answer is yes you have to make them one at a time smile

Russell, (or anyone  willing)

Can you give me some advice on making individual tracks while recording from albums or do you just have to record one song and then change it to MP3 and start on the next one? Thanks in advance. AL

ON edit. I had posted a problem I was having with Lame but I found a download with the correct file and it is working now.
