Hi Last_Rebel,

I have just given your song a run through and I enjoyed playing it. Your tips helped by the way and as for the full lyrics, well I think most of have been down that road at some time or other. I am looking forward to seeing the finished song. Well done.

Thank you,

Roger.

Hello All,

A little while ago Old Doll sent me these words to put chords to and due to a misunderstanding it did not get done. Daddycool's song jogged my memory, thanks to you Daddycool, and I have now completed it. As per usual I have recorded it on FoC:

We hope you like it.

Hi Phil.

Great lyrics and a very good basis for a song. I suggest that you next break it down into verses and chorus to give your song structure. I do think though that the long lines towards the end may need condensing when you put it to music but you will find that out when you do so.

I am really looking forward to seeing the finished song.

Hi Behan,

Welcome to Chordie. I am sure you will be able to find the help to here to learn to play more than just one song.

Regret means to feel sorrow for something. Like you might regret a friend moving away.

As for friends. We are all friends on Chordie and all try to help each other in any way that we can.

Hi Phil,

I must be honest and say that I struggled to interpret your notation here but what I did master sounded fine. As you now have you new BOSS recording device why not record it so we can hear what you intend to be played.

If you have no where to post I let me have a copy and I will put it on Friends of Chordie.

Thank you,

Roger

Hi Helena,

A beautiful song about a mother's love for her son. I think you really should record this, I would love to hear you sing it. Well Done.

Thank you,

Roger

Nice song James,

I shall have to bring Igor out of retirement and give it a bash at the weekend, but a bit short on the strong healthy women in with shiny hair and sparkly gowns though.

Thank you,

Roger

Hey Last Rebel,

Like your song and as the key of G suits my voice I did not need to use the capo to sing it. Well done.

Thank you,

Roger

Hi Jeff,

This brings back memories of my childhood (well not exactly crawdads but sticklebacks, minnows, frogs and newts). Our fun cost nothing and we made our own amusement very different to what most kids experience today.

Good song, well done.

Thank you,

Roger

Hey well done DevilDogs Doll,

That is an achievement. Go ahead and scream it from the rooftop it is an event well worth celebrating.

As Detman pointed out having someone to play with is a great way to create interest and improve your skills. As you are new to the area and are short on guitar playing friends what better way is there than to use your guitar as an icebreaker.

Why not put some adverts about in shop windows or your local paper asking for someone to jam with as there must be other musicians around, playing alone, who would love to have the chance to make music with you.

hi i finally come to an end in learning the guitar. i dont know where to go anymore, im stuck.

You have a had a lot of good advise already posted and I can add little more to what has been said but ask question and give you one suggestion.

The question. What exactly are you stuck on? Maybe you can then be given some specific advice on how to proceed.

The suggestion. Try taking a few lessons. One to one help may be all you need to overcome the current hurdle.

I know it has already been said but to give up now is to waste all the time and effort you have already put in. I think that SouthPaw's suggestion of a short break to contemplate what you have already achieved is very sound advise.

Take care,

Roger

Hi Phil,

I also record songs, unfortunately I do not have the BOSS BR600, but I do have a Tascam Portastudio 424. I have with it a foot pedal so I am able to 'punch-in' (over record) an error. I do not know the specifiation of your unit but I would have thought that this feature would be available on it.

I think that this is an easier method of 'getting it right' than using software to alter or correct an error.

I also use Band-in-a-Box. I usually make the basic backing track with it for drums, bass, strings and efffects I want. I can then lay my backing vocal and guitar tracks (usually one fingerpcking and one strumming) over the basic track and finally add the lead vocal to give the finished song.

This Old Guitar - John Denver.

Betty for me too but I would also add Brenda Lee, Mary Travers and Amy Sky.

I also like Will (as he likes to be called). He is undoubted not your usual teenager and I think he is lacking in friends because he is different. Whether this is a result of the way he has been brought up I have no idea, nor do I care, as I feel that the lad does have potential.

I sent him a number of private messages to try to help him which, although he rarely answered, it was obvious from his posting that he had read and taken notice of what I said. I think he was genuinely making an effort to be accepted and I was sorry to see him go and would welcome him back if he wished to return. He may even be back with a different sign-on name as I think he regretted his original one and hated being called it.

OK Alex this is your thread and your idea has resulted in in a song with many contributors. Funnily enough this is absolutely ideal for an idea that I had a couple of weeks ago.

I had contacted James and Old Doll and suggested that we try a musical collaboration, I have not done this before but I think that I can overlay the seperate performances, and we were looking for a song to use. E-mails have been flying back and forth between America, Ireland and Portugal and we are going to give it a whirl.

It will take a little time to complete and we will use this thread to keep you informed of the progress.

The first thing that I have to do is to write a backing track and send it to Helena and James. This will be used to to keep the timing of the three recordings identical. I will do that this evening.

So, please keep your fingers crossed.

Roger.

Hi Bootlegger,

Put like that it makes perfect sense. I can buy a lot of strings (or beers) for the $60.00 as I already have a good pair of diagonal cutters.

Thank you,

Marmite is a dark brown mess in a jar, supposedly a vegetable extract but tastes like the worst medecine you have ever taken. Even the masochists who claim to enjoy it only spread it very thinly on toast or bread.

It should carry a government health warning.

The night was drawing in and cold air filled the sky
I could see forever sparkling deep within her eyes
Nothing could be clearer as we gazed into the stars
That nothing comes between two people sharing hearts

Touch of your soft hand brushed away your lies
The touch of your lips eased my breaking heart
The smell of your skin made me think of the time
First time holding you to be mine all mine

As the flash of a shooting start lit up the night
Something started stirring beyond the eerie light
We felt it both deep inside the marrow of our bones
While the wind whistled through the trees in melancholy tones

Chorus or Bridge . . .
Dance in the darkness dance still for me . . .
Just enfold me in the ecstasy

Hi Alex,

Great to see you back with us and with a new song too. Not only that, those who remember, a while ago Alex showed us a picture of a white guitar, held by a scantily clad young lady, that he was buying. In the end he went and treated himself to an Ovation instead. Lucky man.

Anyway Alex's song is now on FoC for you to hear at:

Well done,

Hi krhoades,

I guess that you are not talking about a four legged mammal with wagging tail. So just what is a "corn dog" please?
