ah ha!  I see what you mean now!  If you search specifically by ARTIST you only find one version of each song!
This page: http://www.chordie.com/song.php/songart … index.html
And even if you change the view to "all songs": http://www.chordie.com/song.php/songart … sort=songs

However, if you search either from the songs page: http://www.chordie.com/browsesong.php
Or via the search bar located on the home page, you'll get the multiple versions that are indexed.

I'm not sure why this is, I have a feeling it may have been a coding decision that was made or an oversight when the search feature was updated. I'll check with Per on this though!  I did notice in particular, one of Neil Young's songs, "After the Goldrush" which just so happens to be the featured song of the month for June, is spelled with a space between Gold and Rush on the artist page and a bunch of the other versions in the index when searching by song title do not have a space.  It may simply be the fact that there are so many possible differences in spelling that it was better to just provide ONE version, than to attempt to provide all "possible" versions.  OR it could totally be a bug!  smile

In the meantime though, you now know that if you are looking for a song by artist/album, once found you can search then by song to find the alternate versions!  At least there IS a work around to your previous search method.  wink  I'll let ya know what I find out!  THANK YOU for sticking it out in clarifying the issue you're seeing and providing a clear explanation.

I've had no issues with finding multiple versions of songs.  Maybe the one(s) you were searching only has one version in the index?

As an example, I just searched for chords to "Ode to Billy Joe" so that I could add links to the May Song of the Month (in the new Featured Song of the Month Forum) - and I found quite a few different versions of it.

ie:  From the Songs Page, choose O and scroll down to see "Ode to Billy Joe" listed 3 times:  http://www.chordie.com/browsesong.php/o.php?filter=
Click on one of them to find all the different versions available (brings you to the Artist page for Bobbie Gentry): http://www.chordie.com/allsongs.php/son … index.html
By doing a search in the text box on the Home page:  http://www.chordie.com/index.php
You can quickly see that there are multiple versions.  Here's a quick screenshot of what I see when I search for this song:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7763/26504222274_8f64175cda_c.jpg

So, give it a try with this song, and see if you find similar results.  I'm guessing that the songs you've been searching for recently simply only have one version available.  ALSO - they could be in the index in some other way - maybe the person that originally uploaded the file elsewhere didn't enter the artist correctly, or named the song incorrectly.  Often times, popular tunes will just show up under Misc.  - In fact, I see there are OVER 5000 listed in Misc. Unsigned Bands!  AHHH!  Here's that link: http://www.chordie.com/song.php/songart … index.html  I notice the FIRST song on the list is titled "1 Nite Stand" and that makes me wonder if it's actually tabs for the song "One Night Stand" - available here: http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.g … 46915.html

wink  Let me know your thoughts after you take a closer peek around!

not many chordians have taken you up on the idea.
Thats a shame as i think it`s a great idea challenging others to have a crack @ a nominated song.
So i`ve banged a version out.
It`s nothing like yours at all,i like to take a song somewhere  else.
I did a kinda swamp rock feel to it

Brian - I tried to find it, but wasn't able to.  Did you upload it yet?  smile

I don't know the song myself... but I did LOVE how Jan did it!  I plan to listen to it a few times and see if I can strum it out and will give it a try... hopefully before the month is up!  wink

Beautiful song, and really nicely done Joe!  I didn't know this song, but Jim does.  He stopped this morning and listened to your recording before running off to work.  That says a lot, because he's generally in GO MODE first thing in the morning!  smile  Really great job!

Hi there speelmanja, and welcome to Chordie.com!

Unfortunately, it looks like you've posted the Copyright song lyrics to a Billy Joel song.  I've left some of the lyrics in place - for comprehension, in the event someone is looking for the chords to this song.  Thing is, lyrics can't be posted on the forums.  In fact, none of the songs that you find in the Chordie.com Index are actually hosted here.  This site actually just scours the web using some cool coding and ref-ormats the songs for easier viewing/printing/etc.

Please see this thread for more details about copyright and posting on the forums: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=120
Which will refer you to this page All about Chordie: http://www.chordie.com/faq.php
And this one will give you some information about using the forums: http://www.chordie.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=15055

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

hmmm... quite fascinating indeed!  I didn't realize that there were options now available to have items 3D printed from metal and porcelain! Very neat.  The pricing structure isn't insane either.  I realize this is a shop that you set up like a "drop shipper" where you own the storefront and someone else does the 3D printing and shipping, right?

And of course, what a lovely advertisement you created.  I presume the background guitar music is YOU playing?  smile Thanks for sharing a bit of your non-guitar life with us.  Is this your main job?  Side job?  Fun side project to try to earn a little extra cash?  Do you primarily spend time making advertisements for others, or is the intent more to show about the site you set up?  Either way... the site looks neat, as does the ad!  wink

I'm curious about your post, because I myself have "work" - to make the money -  and then "side projects" - could make money, but are really just more for fun.  smile

Is there a song that you'd like to hear everyone cover?  One you've been dying to try out and hear everyone's take on it?  This is the place to cast your vote, and place your suggestion for the featured song of the month for July 2016!

Once we have enough suggestions for next month, the section moderators will take a vote and create a post so you can get practicing and recording!  When July 1st rolls around, you can then post your version in the new thread that we'll create for July's Featured Song of the Month!

So, share your thoughts on the song you want to hear everyone try NEXT!

June's Featured Song of the Month is:

After the Goldrush by Neil Young

You can go up to the top of Chordie.com and click on "Home" to search for the song by name in the search box.  There's a few different versions of this song indexed right here on Chordie, though most appear pretty much the same in different keys.

As well, you can always change it up!  It's a cover after all, and playing it exactly as the original isn't a requirement!  Go do your thing, and come back here to post your recorded version in a reply to this thread!

Here's a few options for those that don't feel like searching:
Rated Best Version indexed on Chordie: http://www.chordie.com/chord.pere/www.p … LDRUSH.TXT

So, what are you waiting for?  READY?  SET?  WAIT... no spoilers until JUNE 1st, then ...GO!
In the meantime, feel free to discuss your thoughts below!   The song has been selected and posted here so that you have time to practice up, record, and are ready to go June 1st if you want to be one of the first to post your recording.  This thread will stay open though, so if you don't get your recording in before July hits, you can STILL add it at a later date.  smile

Hi there!

Dino, since this is in the song requests section, I presume our new member is looking for chords for the song.  wink

I wasn't able to find chords, but I did find this recording on YT - it's a lot of piano work and picking - they state it's in the key of C if that helps any!

SELSO!  How's life treating you?  Don't be such a stranger there old friend!  Get back in here and get us all caught up on life.  smile

I sure do hope life's been treating you well.  If not, well then you just kick it in the pants and pick up the guitar and play some happy tunes!  You've been missed around here.  There's a bunch of new people who don't know you.  Lots of new friends to make.  big_smile

Hey!

Featured song of the month is the location where members can share their own version of a cover of one featured song each month!

The featured song will be either a popular song that is covered, or a Chordie member written song that is covered.  The song will be available either in the Chordie search engine or in the Song Writing section of the forums.  Once a song is chosen, all who would like to participate will be able to do a recording of the song, upload to an online service, and share a link to the recording!  DO NOT POST COPYRIGHT LYRICS IN THIS FORUM!  If a song is being covered that is a popular song, owned by someone other than a Chordie member, the lyrics can NOT be posted anywhere in the Chordie forums.

What are the guidelines for a cover song?
None really!  It can sound like the original if you like.  Or it can be your own take on the song!  Sometimes it's fun to switch up a popular slow song and turn it into rock, or take a heavy metal song and turn it into a ballad!  Whatever you like!!

Where do I upload my recording?
There's tons of free places to upload.  Youtube, Sound Cloud, Sound Click, etc.  Once you've got an account set up, you can upload your song and link to it in the appropriate thread.

How do I record?
Visit the recording section of the forums for suggestions and ideas on equipment and methods of recording and editing your recording.

Where do I post?
There will be a new thread each month for the featured song of the month  You can post on that thread!  Please keep this section for featured songs only.  Questions about issues with Chordie, ability to log in, or conversation about your NGD or which mic to choose belong in other sections of the forums.  Be certain to look through all the sections, and if you're not sure, you can post in the Chat Section.  A moderator will move your thread if it fits better somewhere else!  If you'd like your own song to be considered, make sure to post it in the Songwriting section of the forums!

Additional notes:
1. Go to the thread for the current month to post your link of a recording for that song!

2. Go to the thread for the next month to see which song will be featured next.  Practice up!  Work on your recording!  Discuss the song! Don't post your link to the recording until the FIRST day of the month!  smile  We'll create this thread in advance so that you have time to work on it.  Some people may need only a few days, but others may need a few weeks.  This is why it's posted in advance!

3. Go to the thread for suggestions for the next month and add your thoughts on which song you'd like to see featured that month!

4. Suggestion threads will be closed once it's time to make decisions. While we want your suggestions, and thoughts on other people's suggestions, it will ultimately be a vote made by the moderators on which song will be featured next.  Song of the Month threads will NOT be closed.  So, if a year from now you want to go back to the May 2016 thread and listen to everyone's versions and add your own, FEEL FREE!

As always, please see the appropriate stickies at the top of each section of the forums.  The "About Chordie" section has general rules for using these forums.  If you're not sure if something is ok or not, feel free to email a moderator and ask!

Nice job JAN!

hey all... something new coming at you soon in the forums (hint, look at Jan's profile title)  wink wink

Next time, next time.  Check out some mom and pop shops.  The one near me allows musicians to put guitars on layaway with no fees and no minimums, as long as you're paying something and progressing.  Ask.  It never hurts!  smile

Yeahhhhhhh... I hear what you guys are saying about learning stuff and memorizing it and all that goodness. I think the issue is that 99% of the time that backyard picking happens (and this is myself not just Jim), there are also big coffee cups like Zurf described.  wink  This can be a major issue in being capable of a simple chord progression along with remembering words at the same time.  smile  Plus, if you've met my dad, I have another good excuse.  We simply can NOT remember all the verses to any song.  It's in our blood (thanks for the excuse Dad).  It's common for him to "memorize" songs and play them, and for me to sing along and correct his verses (while looking at the lyrics).  This has been going on since I can remember (like, for OVER 30 years).  I don't know what Jim's 2nd excuse is, except he usually has a bigger coffee cup than I do .  big_smile

Zurf - hmmmm... now I must look up bicycle attachments for phones.  Wonder if they have one for binders too?  LOL!  I can't imagine someone riding a bike and reading from a binder though.  I think that the hat might be an issue for him, as it would look too dorky.  I remember a similar conversation about dorkiness a few years ago while discussing headlamps. I now keep one in my guitar case at all times.

Dino - Not a slave to a phone, just in lieu of a binder full of songs.  wink  Though memorization is certainly another option.  And... VELCRO!  That's too easy!  I even have that on hand, along with construction grade adhesive!  big_smile

ha ha!  How cool!

Hey!  So Jim had a good idea, especially for the backyard.  He wants something that he can use to hold his iPhone 6s out back, clamping it to the guitar stand itself would be handy. Now, I still personally use my printed pages, but he's getting all techie on me these days.  wink

I was looking at all sorts of clamps and options, then thought... wait a minute!  Isn't the tubing on the guitar stand similar to that of a mic stand?  They seem to make those types of clamps better than the standard "clamp to a desk or headboard or anywhere" type clamps.

Anyone ever try it?  Any ideas on the topic or suggestions?  I'm thinking it SHOULD work, as long as the thing has some type of rotation and maybe a position-able neck on it.  Right?  Of course, I also got a little sidetracked and thought about one of those trays for mic stands for my binder too.  So, ideas on both would be awesome!  I usually just find a little table for my binder and use clothespins to keep my pages from flipping in the wind.  Something that clamps to the guitar stand, that's coming along anyway, would be a good idea!!

Thanks a lot for summing up, Amy.

To get the discussion rolling again, lets try to make it more targeted. Lets say - purely hypothetical - that Chordie was in the position of getting 100 custom made guitars from an high quality guitar manufacturer. Obviously there is no one-size-fits-all for guitars, but perhaps there are some designs or features that are better suited to, or more characteristic of, a specific theme or "purpose"? Lets say - still purely hypothetical - that the theme that was chosen was "campfire" and that the target price was sub-$500.

In other words - how should the specification for such a guitar be?

- solid Sitka Spruce top (cheapest of the spruces)
- laminate mahogany back & sides
- 00/concert/folk body size w/ single cutaway
- mahogany neck w/ rosewood or Richlite bound fingerboard
- 1.7" nut (Tusq nut, saddle, pins)
- no pickup needed (no electricity at a campfire, right?)
- fan-braced top, not X-braced (more lively, more resonant)
- 24.5" scale (familiar playability)
- maple for all body bindings & rosette

Finally ... a heat-embossed logo into the lower bout of the top, with a campfire graphic, and the name "Chordie Campfire" underneath it when held vertically.

This should be capable of being built at a $500 price tag, but still offer a decent quality, rich sounding guitar, that will feel "familiar" in most guitarist's hands.

NICE SPECS!  I especially like your idea for the graphic!!  wink
