Hi Badeye,

I understand from a previous posting from Old Doll that we could be related, that is good with me, you have an open invitation to my place any time you are here in Portugal (you already had that anyway).

Don't tell anyone but she is going to kill me. She sent me the words and chords for a song to put in Chopro format and a recording of her singing it. I have put the song on FoC last night and sent her the song back to post it. All with out telling her. It was her son's 30th last night so she has not seen my e-mail yet. She has a beautiful voice and it is a lovely song so you can hear it before she posts it.

I am going to be in trouble again, I might even have to write another apology song but perhaps she will settle for a cup of tea.

Take care cousin,

Roger

Hello Cyclops,

As JohnCross21 has already stated you are trying to run before you can walk.

Try going to the public songbooks and searching the beginners books. There will be songs in there that you know that are not too difficult to play and practice on those. Get your fingers strenthened and your chord changes crisp. It will take time and experience before you are able to work out the chords by ear.

As for the comment from Krhoades, well heaven only knows what he means. All are welcome to Chordie, even those with insuffucient intelligence to post a sensible and meaningful reply.

Hi Crackity Jones,

Why not nip down to the songwriting section and try some of the original songs on there. It is a bit of a challenge as they are shown only with chords so there is no melody and I find it very interesting  working out my own melody for them. I find this to be great fun, you can put your own 'stamp' on a song and make it what you want.

James's McCormicks "One Of These Days" which was posted some time ago is still one of my all time favourite songs to sing.

I have to say that I agree with Tunedeaf. I see little point in a songbook that is merely a collection from the indexed songs. All it shows is someone's taste in music. I want to see songs with the chords listed all the way through as it is very difficult to play unless you already know it, there is a lot of 'chaff' in most of the indexed songs and some do have errors in that need correcting.

I stopped looking in the public songbooks for a long time until Pere gave us an "edited" option so I can now sort the songbooks by the amount of editing that has been done. I now find the songbooks a useful reference and I will be adding to mine as soon as I have the time.

Hi Donna,

No you are definitely NOT thick you could not write such lovely songs if you were. The thing with making a song all 'nice and purdy' is that it is like computer programming, everthing has to exactly right. One space where there should not be one, the wrong type of bracket and it all goes haywire.

Read James's 'sticky' at the start of the section and look at one of your songs that he has converted for you in the edit mode and you will see what has been done.

If you want me to look at your next one before you post it, you have my e-mail, and I can tell you if you have it right.

Hi James,

Another fine offering from you. Definitely a must for recording please find the time to give it the works. I guess I will 'Badeye' this one too.

Hi Jeff,

Good song and cleverly integrating some artistes and song titles. There is a lot of truth in the lyric and the chords flow well. Time for a 'Badeye' I think.

well done,

Roger

Hey Donna,

I like this too.

The only make up I like to wear is lipstick but it has to be applied from a pretty lady's lips.

Hi Jerome,

I agree with both James and Old Doll it is a beautiful song. I have a grandson who although is not autistic he does have autistic tendancies and I can see him as I sang it. It takes a special parent to care for such a special child, I wish you all well.

Thank you,

Roger

There was also the singer Buster Bloodvessel.

Hi Phil,

I am glad you answered that one. I have been wondering ever since Moddish asked the question.

Thank you,

Hi Emma,

Like the others that have commented on your song I too am very impressed and would like to hear more.

Most of the songs that I have posted on Chordie  started off far too personal for anyone else to hear, I would die with embarrassment if anyone heard or saw the originals. What I did I sat down and re-worded them to depersonalise them, often keeping the same theme and in doing so I made, I think, a better song.

You may well be able to do this to yours and put your fans out of their misery.

Just a thought.

Roger

Hi Bobby Moore,

Welcome to the Chordie Forum. However I must point out to you that your praise is to the wrong person.

Pere (admin@chordie) is the father of the site, it is his brainchild and he who has done all the hard work in making the site what it is. Myself and the other Moderators help keep the postings in right sections and eliminate spam.

It is, as you have discovered, a brilliant site, with many knowledgable and helpful members so please bring your friends along to join in the discussions.

Hi Mark,

Yes a little different from your usual offering to the Forum but a great song, I like it. You will certainly be in good books with the one it was written for.

Having had the advantage of a sneak preview of a recording of it I think you should let the rest of your Chordie friends hear you perform it.

Well done,

Roger

Hi nz,

Unfortunately I have just moved and my recording gear is not set up yet or I could show you better than a written explanation. I will do this when I can for you.

In the meantime here is a thought for you.

I would like to bet that there have been many times you have been listening to some music and you have beaten a rhythm on your lap or a table top with your hands. That is all that strumming is, not some fixed mathematical formula, but something that you feel. So instead of beating your right hand on a table top you are rubbing it down and up across your guitar strings in time to the music. As I said earlier start with just a steady rhythm before putting in up strokes and double time downs.

If you know three strumming pattern that is three more than me. I will not be restricted by trying to play in a fixed manner, I will do it my way as the mood suits.

Don't think about it - feel it.

Hello Blake,

What a lovely song you have written beautiful lyric and great chord progression.

I shall have to write it out later and put the chords throught its entirity as I really want to play it all the way through.

Well done,

Roger

Hi James,

I can really relate to this one. The problem is the body gets older but the mind does not.

It is a very good song so I think I will 'Badeye' it.

Roger

Hi Bootlegger,

For me the main reason I play my acoustic more than my electric is laziness. It is easier to pick up an acoustic to play than to plug in, switch on and set up the electric. I also like to fingerpick and that too is easier on the acoustic.

Hi nzelectric,

I have just noticed another thread where you are concerned about strumming patterns and I believe you are relatively new to the guitar, so my advice to you is not to get too bogged down trying to copy someone else's version of the song.

I have been playing for a great number of years and I never use the identical strumming patern each time I play a song and that included the ones I have written too. I play what I feel.

Even if you are a real beginner and have to look and place each finger sepeately for each chord, you can still play a song. You sing it and just give one strum for each chord change. Singing it (however good or bad will help get the timing right) and as you get better you can put in two strums and evenually be able to play with both up and down strums. I suppose that is a long winded way of saying practice, practice, practice.

You mentioned James Blunt's "You're Beautiful", if you can sing the song identical to him then I suppose there is an argument that you need to play it identical to him. If you can't sing it identical there is no need to play identical.

There have been several threads concerning strumming patterns and it is my opinion that there is no set pattern to any song as it is strummed as it is felt, to me the only thing that is constant is the number of beats in a bar and the speed you wish to play the song.

The most important thing is to enjoy yourself playing and who knows, your version of a song may be better than the original.

Like James I never intended to contribute to the forum. My brother, Colin, told me about Chordie being a great place for chords and lyrics so I came here. It was quite a while before I registered and I used my own name as it is rather unusual. There are not many Roger Guppy's in this world. In fact many people say that one is too many lol

Hi Jeff,

Never could see the point of soccer, 22 men falling out over a ball for an hour and a half when they can all afford one of their own. Mind you it is a good song though, I did enjoy playing it.

Thank you,

Hey Donna,

There is nothing wrong with love songs, after all love makes the world go round. Go into any music store and look how many compilation CD have love songs in the title. The romantic in all of us appreciate them for our nearest and dearest.

Hi Lena,

Your lyrics are wonderful as always, we shall have to get you putting some chords to them though.

Be warned, RyanAir do cheap flights from Portugal to Ireland so I shall come and bully you into writing some one of these days, if you do not. lol

Well done,

Roger
