Hey James,

I am absent for three days and three new songs from you appear, glad I was not absent for any longer or I would never catch up. lol

Another fine song and another blues number for me to play, you never know I might even get hooked on blues.

Well done,

Roger

That is great James,

The guitar was still out from "Justifiable Bigdummyside" so I have just given it a thrash. Fingers are sore but it was great fun particularly as I do not normally do blues.

Thank you,

Roger

Lovely song Donna I do hope you are going to record this to MySpace sometime soon.

Well done and thank you,

Hi James,

Just got moved 100 miles from my previous location and temporarily set up my PC to catch up with Cordie and found this gem of yours. I have just had to dig out the guitar from under a heap of stuff because after reading the lyrics it was just begging to be played and it is great fun.

Luckily I got out of my two marriages and my long term relationship before Bigdummyside was commited and now I only have my cats to worry about. lol

Good one James,

Roger

UK mains voltage is claimed to be 240v but is generally 220v and as you say at 50 hertz.

Hi Hopeful,

A mixer is basically a box to plug a number of microphones, guitars, keyboards etc into and to control the volume, tone and effects of each one to blend or mix the sound to what is required.

It can then be passed to a gigawatt amplifier to blow the roof off, headphones to keep the neighbours happy or a recording device to be able to sell your music and make a fortune.

I hope that helps,

Roger

Hey Hopeful,

If I want to be real quiet I get out my electric guitar. Through the mixer and to headphones makes it quieter than my acoustic to everyone but me.

Hi there Hopeful,

I have in front of me as I write the 1963 sheet music for "There But For Fortune". It is in Common Time (4/4) and each chord is played for two bars. When I play it I both finger pick and strum as the mood takes me.

Hi Guys and Gals,

If I do run for President I shall have to have Mike (American Chaos Theory) as my running partner as I am sure he will be able to keep most of the sharks away.  But whether it is President or special Cultural Attaché for Portugal, rest assured I will remember my Chordie friends come what may. lol

Helena, what can I say?

For the second time in less than a week I am both 'gobsmacked' and I have tears running down my cheeks as I write.

You are absolutely right I was not expecting this, thank you.

Another possibility is a music emporium. Some will only sell new gear but others will take used equipment in part exchange which they also need to sell. So do not dismiss your local guitar shops.

Hey Badeye,

Sounds like you had a fantastic weekend and I only wish I could have been there too. A few years ago I saw the 'Bootleg Beatles' in the UK and they were 'fab'. It is surprising how good some of the tribute bands are, and you and James are right, they should not be dismissed as just jumping on someone else's bandwagon for a swift buck.

Glad you had such a fun time,

Roger

HONEY DO'S?

If it won't corrupt the innocent can I have a translation please?

Roger

For me, at home, it is 95% acoustic and 5% electric. Although I love playing my 'Mean Green Music Machine' electric it is so much easier to pick up my acoustic to play without having to wire up to the amp and then probably use headphones so as not to disturb the neighbours.

I tend to use my electric for 50% of the time when I am recording or gigging.

Writing songs is normally done 100% with the acoustic.

Hi James,

A grand little blues number you have here and rather thought provoking. I just love the line "Don't wallow in wicked intentions or a toxic attitude", you certainly have a way with words James.

Hi BIBB44,

My information is that "Big Boys Toys" which featured in the 2000 album "People Like Us" was co-written by Arron Tippin and Buddy Brock.

Hi Blake,

I have only just found time to play this little gem of yours. Love the lyrics and the chord sequence - well done.

Hi James,

Sorry I have only just had time to play this one and having two daughters, I know your feelings well. As girls are usually late getting ready I have a vision of a nervous young man sitting in your lounge and you putting on a recording of this to keep him 'amused' whist he is waiting for her. lol

Well done,

Roger

Hi James,

A fun song that flows nicely but with a serious message to convey. With having just three chords it means that beginners can play it comfortably. Nice one.

Lovely song Jeff,

It conjures up a romantic vision whilst playing it especially after knowing how it came to be written.

40 years ago there were just two types of guitar strings. There was only one guage but there were wire wound strings for acoustic and tape wound ones for electric guitars. This meant that from bottom E to high E the strings were smooth.

The tape wound were easier on the fingers and sliding up and down the fretboard was quieter.

Can anyone tell me why the tape wound strings disappeared?

Hi Weejie,

I have just enjoyed your second offering to the Songwriting section. Not the easiest to play but the chord progression is good and we all know someone who is indecisive and gets in a panic so it is easy to relate to.

Read James's 'sticky' at the start of the section to learn how to post songs 'nice and purdy' but more importantly it makes it easy for other to play along to.

I have sent you a private e-mail that may help you.

Hi James,

What a contrast after just giving Jeffs "Keep It Real" a real thrash.

I finger picked it and loved the waltz tempo. There is a lot of emotion in the lyrics which your later posting explains. I followed the URL and I have to say that the tragedy that inspired this song is beyond belief.

Thank you James,

Roger

Wow Jeff,

I started playing a slow ballad but very soon, as James said, I was belting it out. Not your usual style but it is great and works real well. The sentiment of the lyrics is very true and I can only echo James's very apt remarks about them.

Another good one, well done.

Thank you,

Roger
