this one was one was coming along while I wrote the last one, my group the PUI annual river trip is coming in april and we lost one of our members to cancer recently. apologize for the quality on this one is was recorded at work in the SOC studios in Basra on my little martin travel guitar. going to redo it in a couple of weeks when I get home but I wanted to get some input on it I don't like the chorus that much the last line particularly
C G
theres an empty chair now around the fire
Em G D
raise a toast to friends who've gone on higher
like a ship gone down in a hurricane
a body's gone but a spirit remains
in the end your just a memory
one more soul that's finally been set free
friends and family you left behind
one day soon that hill they too shall climb
C D G Em
across that river we must all go one day
C D G Em
the Lord our soul to keep we all pray
C D G
reunion's not that far away
C G
I know you've gone to a better place
Em G D
that's my one and only saving grace
no pain and misery
in that shining light we too shall see
cast a shadow on the face of the deep
peaceful dreams where angels sleep
friends and family left you behind
one day soon that hill we too shall climb
across that river we must all go one day
the lord our soul to keep we all pray
reunions not that far away
reunions not that far away
The "Head Pickle Rhymer" strikes again ... whatta hoot! Lots of stuff I can relate to from past adventures, but the pirate angle makes it even better. Love it!
don't know if shows up any where in the video we have stickers on our boats and a couple of guys even got tattoos of our logo a skull and crossed paddles replacing the bones
just listened to the song and watched the vid, looks like a lot of fun, are we to take it that there was a rollover accident? hope everything is OK.
fortunately the driver and passenger were wearing armor made of crown royal and the bloody ear was the only damage. my friend scott can now say he went down the river with a bloody bucken ear
great job one of my favorite Hiatt tunes
slow day at work so I though I would post a little ditty I wrote and made a video for a group of my friends . we make a annual trip to Arkansas for white water kayaking, drinking, camping, drinking, hanging out around the camp fire and maybe a drink or two. a pirate looks at forty is kind of our anthem any way heres to my brothers of the PUI (paddlers under the influence)
https://youtu.be/2lEJA5rR7_I
Am C G Am Am G Am
we be pirates one and all we ply our trade up in Arkansas
we rule the river and we rule the waves brothers in arms till we find our graves
chorus
Am C G Am Am G Am
oh we are the brothers of the PUI thick as thieves till the day we die
our name is feared both far and wide we are the brothers of the PUI
and its yo ho ho and a bottle of rum raising hell down the river we come
and its fifteen men on a dead mans chest PUI TO HELL WITH THE REST
chorus
our beards are grey but our hearts are young we paddle our boats and we drink our rum
down the river hear our cannon thunder late at night we loot and plunder
chorus

Roger

write a stupid song and it changes to pickle rhymer
I own a couple of Taylors and a Takamini Jasmine that was the first guitar I ever bought new for $250 .i have had it for 25 years now and still play it regularly .it plays good and sounds good to my untrained ears.
that's good stuff
was killing time this morning relearning some Jerry Jeff tunes this is one of my favorites
well I just noticed TEAS in heaven, I gots to be mo carful
Thank you! The fact that you re-recorded this for me, and I adore this song, is enough to get my eyes all teary.
It's still a million times better than I could do. Thank you again.
no problem your welcome,
Mekidsmom, this is about as good as it gets for my finger picking. not sure that its any better than the first attempt
don't expect much and you wont be dissapointed
I remember seeing this post a few weeks ago and meaning to come back in here to listen and comment. I'm so glad it's still here, and you didn't remove the recording.
That's such a beautiful song, and tends to make me cry... thinking about that whole, what if Heaven is there and do little kids grow up or just stay little and would they be living a whole different life like some other dimension and even remember us? Well, anyway, that's what I hear when I listen to this song. It is a DIFFICULT song to play. There's no way I could do it justice! I think you've done it quite well.
If you have been practicing it since this was posted, I'd love to hear a new recording all polished up!
it has been awhile since I had learned to play that one, I learned it after my bother passed away (man time flies) almost 20 years ago now . it used to get to me when I played it. had not played it in some time , tried a couple of times to learn to sing it but it just never seemed to sound right to me so I gave upon that. that was recorded a while I was at work on my travel guitar , so looks like I will be doing some practicing and redoing on it on my Taylor and see if that makes a difference.
ok test driving the new chordie and you tube all in one post. I put together a video for my song Johnny awhile back but didn't have any way to post it. just signed for you tube so lets see how this works out.
