CD's - you kids get all the good toys!!! I remember going to gigs with my trusty case of cassettes under my Datsun seat, a variety of Perth bands and international acts, including the Cure, Dave Warner, our own band releases. Invariably the back seat would be out so I could move that big old PA around ...

But road trips; I remember listening to Pink Floyd while driving through the fogs in outer Melbourne, as we went up and down those small hills in the area, we'd go up through the fog and then we'd go back down into it, if it wasn't so random, I would have sworn that it was all timed to be in sync with the music. A surreal experience for sure ...

Hmmm, been sitting here staring at a blank "write message" box for a good 5 mins, I don't think I could name one artist as a favorite - my tastes ebb and flow too much to narrow it down to one. I also find age has changed my tastes (I used to hate when I was a teen and my mum would put on John Denver or Neil Diamond, now I find them ok). But apart from the ones listed above, Bruce Springsteen, John Foxx, Deep Purple, Rick Wakeman (although more as a music writer than songwriter), Bernie Taupin (with Elton John) ... in fact, I applaud anyone who's written a song - it's not always an easy thing to do!!

I left a message on SoundCloud about how your guitar playing is getting much better - I can certainly hear improvements to some of your earlier work. However the echo was a bit strong on the voice, making it hard to distinguish the lyrics, I got the general jist of the song and enjoyed it nonetheless!!

I always find your songs and videos interesting - you certainly have a knack for adding in 'ordinary' things and making it the visuals and audio line up. I'm glad you put something up, I do miss your esotoric videos!!

Jandle wrote:

neophytte,  change / changing = close enough smile  I like the lyrics in this song, and a couple of the lines stuck out.  "how  can your voice make or break me" which particulary good and thought provoking.

Jandle, thanks for your kind words, I used to do this in my acoustic duo and the lady that sang it was way better than myself - have a listen to this version from 1992!! (recorded on a 4 track recorder)

thanks for putting the lyric here,i couldnt quite follow it in the song.

Hi EB,

Sorry, was in a rush when I put them up, because I use an iPad when I perform I 'scrunch up' the words so it all fits on one screen - I've edited it to make it (hopefully) easier to follow ...

Hope that helps!

Reminds me of that joke - what is the difference between a rock player and a jazz player? The rock player plays 3 chords to 10,000 people, and the jazz player plays 10,000 chords to 3 people! smile

Richard. Sorry to hear about catching the dreaded COVID, get well soon. Shame about missing the deadline, next time?

It was the first time for me - it was more like a cold than anything, I worked (from home) through it ... my sons both had it about the same ...

Yep, next time! I'll have to check in with the WA Folk club to see if anyone from there went into it ...

The spamming is getting worse. I try to check every morning and evening if possible. Even if others have lost faith in Chordie, present company excepted, the core members need to show we are still here and keeping the faith. As the old saying goes...use it or lose it. If Per decides one day that his baby is going down the pan with the bath water he may just pull the plug and we'll all be the losers

The times I've seen this before, it was a financial decision, not a usage one ... if it's free to keep it going they generally sticks around longer!

It's true, the spam here is getting bad, and I see some of the new people joining and commenting, but it looks like AI generated text in response to a generic question ... I did post a link to a video for FSoTM, but it received no replies ...

This was emailed to me, so I thought I'd make others aware of it:

Participating musicians or groups can share a folk song from their country, and in exchange, learn and perform a different folk song submitted by another participating musician. The songs will then be performed and shared on Make Music Day.

Here's me playing an old original song of mine called "All's not fair in love and war", which has the line "the forest is a comfortable *home* , giving them all their necessities" in it:

Way

I remember one gig I played "If you could read my mind", and one of the older guys was telling me about his (unknown to me at the time) large number of hits, I looked him up and borrowed a "Greatest hits" from our local library, he had some great songs.

Ironically I was playing that song the evening before I heard about his passing, which was unusual - it's in my list of 'B' songs I play (for me, that's "songs I play OK, or good when in the mood), and was the last song I played that evening.

RIP song smith ...

Thanks - I still feel it's unfinished as I wanted to take the third verse into somewhere like "from the highest king to the lowliest beggar, sadness come for us all" ... but we recently had ANZAC day over here and I'm a bit weary from all the sad songs I've been hearing ...
