Re: Odd To Say (4 replies, posted in Songwriting)
unhhuh had a listen ,you are writing some fine songs with great lyrics the only criticism would have to be the recording quality and the mix seems like a little to much treble on the eq's and no pan on the tracks, you must have laid both guitar and vocal at the same time on one track IMO only I would suggest recording the guitar and vocal on two separate tracks and panning one a little left of center and the other a little right because there seems to be a tad of distortion because both the guitar and your voice are sharing the same position on the recorded track but still its a fine song never the less ![]()

catchy techno kind of thing, I think Arkady is into this and a lady from ourstage Lori cunningham has a few of these, you can visit both Arkady's and Lori's page from my website, click on it and click on there pictures in my friends list below the music player I think you will enjoy what they have to offer musically, I will have some time today to listen to this song more, its enjoyable and I can sense that lyrics wouldn't be hard to fit into this song nicely done ![]()

Re: CHORDIE MEMBERS MUSICAL NETWORK (41 replies, posted in Recording)
I agree the bass level is much to high, the keyboard is hard to hear and the overall mix needs to have the drums up and the guitars and bass almost at the same level and the keyboard should fill in a little fuller more of a hammon b3 sound (with leslie) kind of deep purpleish not to fret we have time to remix it may be a good idea to send me your keyboard mp3 and let me see what i can come up with
hi russel, ran into a spot of trouble as i was trying to lay the keyboards on fire of light. for some reason ableton changed the levels of the original recording and turned the bass levels way up. i've been fiddling about with it and couldn't find out why. decided to leave til tomorrow, and all of a sudden i had a brilliant idea which i think is going to solve the problem. i'll try it tomorrow though because it's kind of late in this corner of the world and i'm starting to feel tired. here's what i recorded:
the keyboards have changed (hammond b4 emulator) and again this is just a sound test .

Re: Microphones (5 replies, posted in Recording)
feedback is a problem on stage it usually has to do with the proximity of the speakers and the position of the microphone in addition to the eq on the mic or the volume any one of these could cause feedback even putting your hand over the mic causes feedback the sure sm-58 is a omni directional mic as opposed to the sm-57 which is unidirectional,a omni directional picks up sound from a greater area and the uni directionals field is smaller and is ideal for mike-ing acoustic guitars for recording or placed in front of a speaker for mixing on stage also recording harmonicas the sm-series by sure is the most dependable microphone made ( IMO) ive had one for over 15 years without a problem ![]()

Re: Boss micro BR recorder (19 replies, posted in Recording)
Scott this is the first mention of "phantom power" ive come across at first I thought it was a ac/dc power converter but I found a explaination on wiki and its still confusing,is this a power supply for the microphone to use instead of batteries? signed "confused in wisconsin"
Hey Guys, I thought I'd chime in and see if I could help. I may be wrong on this but most condenser mics that I've seen do require "phantom power". I know the one riddler and I use has to have phantom power for it to work. It's worth checking into because these condenser mics are really good. But please check it out first to make sure I'm right on the phantom power issue before you drop any dead presidents on a phantom power box.
this is the wiki explanation

Re: CHORDIE MEMBERS MUSICAL NETWORK (41 replies, posted in Recording)
sounds about right m theres a vocal that will be on top, the guitar and bass lines are played in unison so a keyboard would fit in nicely as a backing which leaves room for a slide solo at the right time a kind of edgar winterish feel
M is fine. having heard the keyboard sound on fire of light,do you have any suggestions on how to play it? i'm thinking of lowering volume level on the keyboard slightly so that it becomes a background fill, not so "in your face" as it is now.

Re: Boss micro BR recorder (19 replies, posted in Recording)
Tony if your amp has a external speaker output jack it may be possible to plug a guitar or microphone into your amp and send the signal via the speaker jack to your micro recorders input, that way you could record anything that plugs into your amp including a guitar, microphone, effects pedals ect.. dose your amp have a speaker jack in the rear or a line out? ps. I found this link it may be helpful

Re: Boss micro BR recorder (19 replies, posted in Recording)
tony I googled the boss up and I read over the specifications and I didn't see any condenser microphone listed as a requirement to record vocals but being as it is a small unit I can understand why it all comes down to impedance and the word "condense" means to compact or make smaller, shorten etc..so it must have something to do with how much impedance this unit can handle, you must have received a operators or owners manual when you purchased it and it must have listed the required input limits on devices like microphones ( ohm.'s,impedance) I will see if I can find the manual and read up on it and then be able to give you more useful info on this ![]()

Re: 3/4 time (8 replies, posted in Music theory)
alanmac 3/4 time is based on the number of beats in a bar so is 4/4 or any time signature the 3 indicates there are 3 beats in the bar the 4 indicates which kind of note recieves the beat in this case its a quarter note. 3/4 time is concidered "waltz time" the accent is on the 1st beat of the bar like ONE two three TWO two three THREE two three FOUR two three its that simple ![]()

Re: CHORDIE MEMBERS MUSICAL NETWORK (41 replies, posted in Recording)
M the keyboard part fills it out nicely all the tracks with the exception of the drums can be downloaded from my mediafire account the link is at the bottom of this post the folder name is "fire of light" you may want to listen to the original mix before adding any percussion or keyboards because the guitars come in at different bars and the guitar bass combination really drive this song the song can be heard on my website just click the link on the left, and I think your keyboard part will add a nice dimension ![]()
was trying to find some keyboard sounds that went with your song fire of light and came up with this:

kept the original sound of the base track, just added the keyboard. (I'm on holiday so I got time to spare. hope i'm not bugging you all)

yes it is differen't from the original version and I should know since I composed it, the original version can be heard on my website link on the left but I enjoyed your take on it and hope you had fun with it
i've just had a playaround with user doug smith's fire of light song and did a different take on it, by reequalizing it making it sound more "heavy metallish", and putting a basic blues scale solo on it. I've taken the liberty of recording and uploading the results. here it is:
