Hi Jeff,

I love the chord sequence to this one, and the sentiment behind it I know only too well. This is a song I would very much like to hear you sing to get the right melody and tempo.

Here I go again trying to get someone to perform their own songs.

Thank you Jerome,

I have been playing for close on 50 years and never had any understanding of why a chord is called what it is. Thanks to your easy to understand explanation I am begining to grasp the concept.

OK badeye,

This is just for you I hope that maybe this will make it easier for you to 'get' chopro format as you will know this song quite well. The attachment is a song called "Be Yourself" and it has been altered so it would come out all nice and purdy if posted.

If you have not guessed by now I am determined to do my best to get you to understand it. <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

I have written out the basic commands and explanations to make a song look all 'nice and purdy' in the following attachment and I have used one of James's songs as an example.

I hope that this helps.

Roger

This has been a very interesting thread to follow. It started off as a song with no music telling of parental conflict, a road that I am sure many of us have been down with a parent at some time or other.

Within a few days and with help from Ken and James a lovely song has been born. My contribution to this is a backing track for hinder_rox07 and friend which I have uploaded to:

<a href="http://www.myspace.com/friendsofchordie" target="_blank">http://www.myspace.com/friendsofchordie</a>

I have used a Christina Aguilera style and tempo that I think suits the song but if hinder_rox07 wants any changes to key, style or tempo I can very soon alter it.

I hope you like it and can play and sing along to it.

Thank you jerome.oneil,

I have been playing for a long time and never understood the 7ths etc. I know how to play them and what they sound like but now I know why they are called what they are.

So now you have got me thinking and I am intrigued. Am I right in thinking that C9 would be the same as C2 but the D is an octave higher?

Hello to albertdeb and jimdandypicker,

Welcome to Chordie. I will try to answer both of your queries together.

Firstly when you want to print out a song there is an 'print page' icon on the right of the page between 'full screen' and 'mail friend' they are fairly faint and can be missed. By using this the song will be printed in the 'chopro' format with the chords in blue above the lyrics.

To have a clean copy without any of the chaff that often comes with songs add it to your own songbook. You can then edit it make any changes and eliminate anything you do not want and and save it for future reference. When you have 4 songs in your songbook you can make it public and others can see your work.

I hope that this helps,

Roger

Another nice song from you Jeff,

Like you and James this brought back memories, particularly the summer camps from our local church as there were  girls along as well. I will say no more to protect the guilty <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

Hi Jeff,

I like your song too and what a wonderful idea to take someone's mind off their illness by writing a song with them.

I thought when I first printed out this song, as it took six up six pages, that you were after James's 7.50 minute song record, but I am afraid it came out at just over 6.50 minutes so that puts you in second place of the songs that I have 'had a go at'.

Thank you

Well done Alex,

It is about time everyone heard your recording. It is good to be able to hear the meolody and tempo that you intended the song to have. I know you were doubtful about your ability to perform but I will say here and now that you play and sing very well.

What I also know is that this recording was done a microphone costing just £5.00 from a supermarket but the quality of the recording is more than adequate for this purpose.

Great to hear your song,

Roger

Hello Gar

Whilst agreeing with Ken but just wondering, as I use an effects processor,  if his comment about singing was directed at me <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">, I think that the amount of funds available comes into this equation.

Alex (scrimmy82) has made a quite acceptable recording on a microphone only costing £5.00 from a supermarket. For recording to upload songs that you write for Chordie members to listen to or for your own analysis then this is fine. If you want to seriously publicize your recordings or make CD's for friends and family then you need the kind of gear that Ken mentioned.

Roger

SouthPaw is absolutly right.

A friend of mine who is in his late 50's has been learning for the last 9 month or so and is doing fine. Ok his fingers are not a nimble as a younsters and he has to work at it but he is having a wonderful time doing something he has wanted to for years.

Go for it.

Hi a.c.t.

Look at the attachment. As it is not possible to  show you on the forum I have made the corrections to your song and the explanation on it. You will see that you were very nearly there.

I hope that helps.

Hi Ken,

You have just given me food for thought. I also have problems from time to time and very often I have had to copy and save a message and then post it later. At these times I found that my modem was not transmitting and seemed to be locked. Re-booting the PC sometimes worked but not always.

As I am in the middle of an orchard with no phone line I use a Vodafone Connect box which is a just a gloryfied mobile phone I supose and I had always thought that it was a Vodafone problem but I will now investigate further and maybe change from IE6 to Firefox and see if that makes a difference.

I like this song too. Although it is a shame that the recording is not better at least I know the melody and the timing which is always the difficulty without a recording. The chord progression is great and I am looking forward to hearing some more of your songs.

Hello hypewood,

Welcome to the Chordie forum.

Unfortunately what you ask is not possible. Chordie is a search engine for songs already on the Interenet and as I understand it there are legal reasons why songs cannot be posted direct to Chordie.

If however you can get it posted elswhere you can then have it linked to, and therefore available, on Chordie. If you look in the Resources it will tell you how to do that.

Hi James,

I gave it a thrash and a howl (being careful not to break any strings this time) and generally had fun with this song. Luckily the neighbours were out so I could 'let rip' without worrying about bothering anyone. It is a bit of a change from your recent songs and I did like it, thank you.

Hello everyone,

I have eventually gotten around to recording the third song in my quadrilogy to the mystery lady. This came into being on the third week after meeting her when I realised that love was not on the agenda so I offered friendship instead. I have uploaded it to MySpace on URL:

Hi dirty sanchez,

I would say look upon this as an oportunity. Knowledge is always useful even if you cannot see the need at this moment in time, you do not know what will happed in the future. I am sure all us older guys can look back and think "If only I had taken more notice of ????????? things would be easier for me now".

Learning to read music will also help you understand how it is structured and will help in your learning.

Hi Steve,

It is great when a words and chords posted on the forum come to life in the hands of the writer. Although I like 'having a go' with songs posted here I realise that I am only guessing at the melody and often my version is completely different from what was intended. Mind you it is still great fun to do and I think you also enjoy it as I understand you are going to perform some of James's later.

Well done,

Roger

Thank you Mark(bud wiser)

My wish has been granted and I now know how wrong my melody for this song was. Mark has in fact recorded Fearless which is a song dedicated to his father. I now understand that Mark's father was also a guitarist and that Mark is using his father's guitar for this recording. He would be very proud of you I am sure.

The URL to hear Mark is:

Hi again johnnyvitalis,

You owe me a guitar string!! I got carried away belting this one out and bust my 'E' string <img src="images/smiley_icons/icon_lol.gif" border=0 alt="Laughing">

I think I prefer this to "No Apologies" but I hasten to add that could very well change if I heard them as they were intended. I seem to remember from an earlier posting that you are a performer, so the big hint I am trying to drop here (and I did notice the posting about the recording studio) let us hear them please.

Hi there johnnyvitalis,

I gave "No Apologies" a once over earlier and enjoyed performing it. Like James though I would love to hear you perform it particularly as it has that long G chord and the melody can take infinite turns so the correct way to sing it would be great to know.

Hi Mark,

I have a little advantage on everyone else as I got the chance to hear your song first.

You know, as I have said it more than once, that I get great pleasure from performing other people's songs that are posted here. I get even greater pleasure hearing people perform their own music. It has been a joy to listen to you performing your own song.

I liked your song when I sang it, I like it even better performed by you, well done.

Roger

Hi Jeff,

Another fine song from you. You really must have been in good books with your dearly beloved for that one (I hope it has not worn off yet). I enjoyed singing it, well done.
