Doug I have a PhD in the arts of minstrel vagabonding and  don't try to sweet talk me with platitudes I shall judge on merits (unless you throw in several buckets of butter pecan) lol and I hope your new location spawns some creativity and the only thing I did today was go to the lake and pick some songs and read my book while gazing at the babes lol

Looks like I got hit with a broadside lol I suppose the easiest way to extricate myself would be to admit I was joking but then I woulden't quite feel right about it so YES! I think michael bolton has a good voice! there are you satisfied? lol lol

While your changing your trousers you might want to check out some of his opera arias, Bolton has a phenomonal vocal range and can express himself soulfully with the best. so like him or not I think he is one of the best.

I said there might be some adjustments before the "challenge" officially starts tomorrow and a point was raised regarding the key of A if this is to high for you to sing in you may transpose to a lower more comfortable key but the chord sequence still must remain the same as an example  A Em D A (present key) transposed down a whole step would be G Dm C G you may need help from the theory section for some of the other degrees of the new scale, keep in mind if your new key is for example G just start with G A B C D E F# G and number each degree of the scale as a step or half step                         1 2 3  4 5  6 7  8 and locate the chord in the original scale of A and see what the transposed chord is, if you run into any problems with transposing to other keys let me know or post a question in the theory forum smile

Roger the reference to Roy Orbison was a compliment, your voice reminds me of him a lot there was a song called "Leah" and I was watching an old video of him and thought "Roger Guppy" has a very similar vocal range hence the comparison all the things in "forum news" are not necessarily serious subjects only entertainment but from time to time I will include important subject matter and make it clear so no misunderstanding will occur smile

Roger Guppy wrote:

That was amusing Russ, I hope the other mentioned Chordie Members have a listen and a laugh. One thing thing though, I was not quite sure about the reference to the Roy Orbison fans and me I cannot think of anything in the postings relating to this. Mind you it was fun to listen to anyway.

lieven is this what your getting?
http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?A_PROD_NO=PX4d  A phase trainer allows repeated playback of a designated area on the recording (to memorize a lead solo or chord change) and you dont need a flash player to connect your br-600 to your pc there is a video in my audacity series that deals specifically with connection to your computer without a flash card when you have time download the connection segment its easier then you think smile The link is at the bottom of this post and if you cant find it I will send it to you via usendit they will notifie you by email a file is waiting to download but I suggest downloading all the audacity tutorials and if your still experiencing problems send me a round trip ticket and I will plug in the chord for you lol

Yes Doug i always knew I would be able to live the  life of luxury on a fixed  social security income at least before I saw my first check and received my pittance lol

Hi Roger,

If you will recall from one of Russell's earlier videos, there were slides interposed professing that he was not only single... but independently wealthy!

I'm sure he could dispatch a small jet (from his fleet) to transport you to and from.  Providing your passport is in order, of course.
I've heard that Homeland Security is on the alert for guitar toting terrorists that may try to infiltrate the Country via Portugal!

No worries though, the accommodations at Guantanamo Bay are exceptional I hear. LOL

Roger I wish I could have all my friends for support maybe someday i can but till then I will have to settle for videotaping, I'm not nervous about it (recording) Ive done a lot of session work over the years and I feel relaxed in that environment I just hope my voice stays in good shape i'm looking forward to this and I will be prepared and ready smile

Roger Guppy wrote:

Wow Russ,

I am green with envy. Would you like a session musician for the day at no charge? Mind you it is a fairly long trip from Portugal so perhaps I will just have to wait for the video.

Arkady asked if songs could be just instrumental the answer is yes and they will be in a separate catagory then songs with lyrics and you can choose the instruments there dose not have to be a guitar in the recording but the original guidelines stand the song has to include all the chords in the video "challenge" which can be downloaded from the link below under that file or folder name smile

Randy I think that may be the reason, I sent a message to doc asking the same question regarding what kind of account he registered at myspace with because if its not a band account there will be no player to upload to smile

I will allow instrumentals but they will have to be in a separate class then the songs with vocals and you dont have to have a guitar in the arrangment use whatever instrument you fancy(something tells me its gonna be keys) lol

arkady wrote:

Hi Russ
I'm wondering if you would be open to bending the rules to your challenge.  smile
As it seems that lyrics are a little hard to come by for some of us maybe you could include pure instrumentals the Challenge..
Just a thought.
Ark
Also does the finish piece have to include guitars a bit cheeky I know as this is Chordie..

Ah, fond memories of rounding up the pullets for banding season.... the smell of burnt feathers at thinning time!

Seriously though, I have been a "session musician" for so long now, I 'm not sure I have the "skills" to write.  But I will post my pleadings on the recording section under challenge,  perhaps in a new sub-topic like "whining".

Thanks and Take Care;  Doug

Bok bok bagaukkkk doug everyone has heard it because its right there to download a cllick away! and the idea is not to write what I did but to take these chord patterns and utilize them much the same as a potter, everyone has the clay but how they mold it is up to them so your not off the hook lol

Hello Roger,

Not being a lyricist myself, although I can find my way around the English language (and stumble through a couple others), I have taken it upon myself to disqualify myself from this particular "challenge", on the grounds that I heard the original tune in it's entirety prior to Russell's introduction.

Possession of insight of what his vision for this piece was, might lead me towards that end, and tilt an otherwise level playing field.
I currently have a jazz instrumental that is in need of tweaking that I should devote a bit of effort into before it goes stale. So for the moment.... however if you find yourself in need of a backup acoustic or technical assist, give a shout.
