YES!! Ableton is going to be fun!
I like how you can edit the rhythm section on the new px5d to chain different drum patterns together to create a REALISTIC sounding Drum&Bass backing track.

I have already virtualized the PX5d software and stored a copy on my phone so that I can edit my patches no matter where I am at.
(Even though I don't have the px5d yet hehe...)
I am going to virtualize the copy of Ableton that comes with it as well so I can have all my editing software with me everywhere I go.

I can't wait!!!

Phil,

I also practice daily with my PX4D!! What I do is upload a bunch of backing tracks to my blackberry and then use an audio cable to play the backing tracks from my blackberry through the PX4D. I put on my headphones and I'm playing along with all the songs that I want to play with.

And the best thing is that I can play as loud or harsh as I want to, without anyone asking me to "Be quieter" or "Turn it down".
I used to bring my acoustic guitar to work and play in the lobby of my work building, but once winter hit that became difficult due to the cold of people coming in and out of the building.

After I got my Squier '51, I started playing with my PX4D again since I wanted to practice on my new electric. I've fallen in love with the little device all over again! I am still waiting on the price of the PX5D to come down some more before I get one and sell my PX4D.

I agree, High Action on an electric makes all your notes sound like your fighting to play them.
Low action allows for smooth easy and fast transition between notes.
But don't go too low...then you start to buzz...

DOH!!

forgot I have locking tuners.
I trimmed the old B-string to fit the guitar perfectly.
thus, it's not long enough to reach the high-e tuner...lol.

Off to the store I go...

You could use the b string in a pinch but I'd suspect it won't sound very balanced...

As far as going to 10's, I think you'd probably be okay. You can usually move up or down one step without any real adjustment being needed. Even if it did add just a touch more relief to the neck it would be hardly noticable and shouldn't have much effect on your intonation. No more than it would be, you could work it out at the bridge without having to go to the truss rod. But chances are it will be fine without any adjustments anywhere.

Thanks for the kind words Kajima! You seem to be an excellent guy yourself smile -Pix

Kewl, Thanks GuitarPix.

Don't be too hasty. I could be wrong (I often am) and repeated tuning might solve it. Some of the other guys are better equiped to tell you about electrics and string tension/adjustment.

I think the excellent Russell or Pix might be able to help.

(Pix is excellent too as are just about everyone here; my phrasing didn't state that accurately!)

I'm very competent with setting up my axes and do all my work myself...I just hate the fact that as awesome as this neck is, you have to take it off to adjust the truss rod. (Old school fender style...ugh)

Frankly, that is becoming the constant nail-in-the-coffin for this neck. I really can't see selling it, but it will be replaced once I find a comparable tele neck.

Thanks KajiMa. I like my quote too. Picked it up on the Squier '51 modders board.

That is kinda bad news. The replacement neck that I have on my squier 51 requires removal to adjust the truss rod.
I guess I will stick with 9's until I can get a stock telecaster/squier '51 neck.

Ah well...

Yeah...I'll just take a trip to the guitar store.
I've been hankering to try out 10's and see how I like em.

Just wanted to know real quick...

Can you substitute a "B"(11) string for a high-e (9) string?

I just blew out my high-e playing along to an albert walker styled backing track and have an extra b-string lying around. It would save me from having to run to the guitar shop AND buy a whole new set of strings.

heck, I probably need to try another brand of strings anyway and upgrade to 10s...lol

Thanks,

I've heard that they get real ratty after a few weeks....
But that was a thread on the red ones. Hopefully, for your sake, the black ones last longer...

Count me in for events at Zurfs backyard and within driving range of an hour from me.
I just want to play with someone besides myself.

Wait...that didn't come out right....I meant using the looper function in my PX4D!!

The 6th of June sounds good to me.

Eventually Epiphone and Gibson will be neck and neck and then their market will shrivel up completely.

Fender will take it's rightful spot at the top.

I, too, recommend the "Less is more" strategy.
Try to phrase your notes like you're talking...but through the guitar.
The same places you would stop speaking are the same places you stop playing.
No run-on sentences allowed!!! AND NO RANDOM NOODLING!!
Speak through the guitar and make your audience FEEL what you're playing.

Sometimes humming the words I would speak/sing with the backing track I'm playing with helps me figure out my riffs.

jets60, Congrats playing soccer. I used to run like that.             This weekend I stopped a line drive baseball with my shin.
With ice on it, the half-baseball sized knot went down by the next morning but the soreness is slow to go at my age.
Playing guitar six nights a week, I had a problem with my left index finger getting stiff and painful to bend. Try to play an open string C with that going on.
My guitar was heavy and a wider guitar strap cured the problem. The blood vessels in the top or your shoulder are pinched off with a narrow guitar strap and arthritis in the fingers is the result.

Had that same problem with my old Silverburst LP that I recently sold. That thing weighed a metric ton.
Fender for life from here on out!!!

I love working on motorcycles, cars and computers.
On all three of them you run the risk of damaging your hands. With some, permanently.
Thanks be to God, I have made it this far with all my fingers intact and no damage.
Needless to say, I have been working on cars, bikes and computers less and less the more that I play guitar.
My hands are just so so so valuable to my peace of mind now...

Whoa, all this talk of using your pinky?
I use my index and ring finger....
Am I missing something? We are talking about the A-Shaped barre-chord version of the "B-Chord" at the 2nd fret right?

Was I supposed to be using my pinky all this time...lol?

Try before you buy.
And dont limit yourself to name-brand stores.
The guitar you love may come from somewhere you don't.

1. X-Static - Foo fighters (Super easy to play, only uses the top 4 strings - Very power-chordy)
*****THIS WAS THE SONG THAT STARTED ME OUT PLAYING ELECTRIC GUITAR!!*****
***THANK YOU DAVE GROHL!!***

2. Melon Yellow - Slowdive (super easy repetitive riff with gobs of reverb and echo)
3. Christmas time is here - Vince Guaraldi (The tabs not the actual chords hehe)
4. I got id - Pearl Jam (Easier than it sounds, believe me)
