pix you provide a wealth of information as usual some how i think you lured me in
soooooo i will see if i can download this manual or find the part you need and take a screen shot or two yes i agree it pays to be honest and you were rewarded for yours, as soon as i have read the section and studied it a bit I will do my best to explain( assuming i can understand it ) ![]()
Much appreciated Russ!! The complete manual can be found here as a pdf file http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8 … &type= I've played with it some and am slowly figuring it out but any translation to laymans terms would be appreciated!
The purchase was actually an interesting story. I ordered the recorder, mic, pop filter, a bongo cajun, A marshall AS50d, a cowbell, egg shakers and a Guiro at the same time. I know a pretty big order...lol Anyway, I recieve 2 of everything from musicians friend!! I wait a week struggling with my conscience (keep it or return it) and then finally call the company to inform them of their mistake. They are amazed that I reported it and want to return it so I get half off my order for being honest and a $50 store credit towards my next order!! If I'd have known I was going to end up getting half off the order it would have been much larger...lol Just goes to show that honesty does pay! Peace! -Pix

Re: ABOUT THE SIZE OF HANDS (22 replies, posted in Electric)
Nela I was treated for trigger finger in my right hand (strumming hand) and my fretting hand gives me a little wince of locking once in a while but the injection the doctor gave me in my right thumb worked and that was over a month and a half ago and you are correct the rhythem is the most important part of the song even classical music has a set tempo and that is usually interpreted by the conductor to the ochresta via the baton or hand motions
I don't think size matters as much as what you can do with what you got. At 57 years old my old hands are battered and bruised from years of hard work. I'll never be a lightin' fast lead guitar player but I don't think that's what I want, either. I've already had to have my left hand (chord hand) operated on for (trigger finger) and now I'm having the same problems with my right hand. Trigger finger is when one or more fingers will lock into a curled position and not open back up without help due to "bulges" on the tendons that pass thru the joints, very painful. Anyway, due to age, temperment and ability I will continue with playing rythem guitar and leave all the hot licks and riffs to others. The rythem is the "SONG" anyway. Anything else just enhances the rythem.

pix that bowl of ice cream looks so tempting
and regarding the audacity and the possibility of looping tracks i have the whole manual in a zipped folder and i can look and see if this exists to be honest i dont think so but i will dig into the help tab and see and if that bugger is there i will extract the varmint and give you the secreats of the jedi
Russell_Harding wrote:pix there are several issues you are asking so let me check out the links you provided and see exactly what kind of equipment you are working with i can say quickly it is a lot better to lay the accustic track 1st and as far as looping the percusion it depends on the recorder my br-8 has this feature but i will return and add more after i check out your links so standby.....shall return russ
Thanks Russ as payment I offer you this http://www.haagendazs.com/img_db/pro/pro_bpi_101.jpg A large cyber bowl of ice cream
I believe butter pecan is your favorite.
I was thinking the looping of percusion could possibly be done on audacity?

1st the recorder like mine has a built in metronome and it will keep time for you and not record on your tracks so keep track of the speed of the metronome (write it down) and when you record additional set the click tract on so whatever instrument you play will be in time
2nd if you record a accustic track 1st to the metronome let it click for 8 beats so each track you record after you will have no problem comming in on time (sync) and you can listen to the first track as you play the next but do this first pan the track you recorded to the left or right of center because all new tracks are automaticley placed in the center and you can pan the tracks where you want later and last looping tracks ,if i understand you correctly you want to play only say 4 bars or so and have the recorder loop this track my br-8 can and im sure theres a funtion for that on the tascam if not you have 2 choices either play the entire song from beginning to end (percussion track) or use a digital rhythem machine like mine it is a alesis sr-16 and it has that funtion of playing 1 or 4 bars and looping this as you add additional rhythem beats just like a loop pedal plays back each generation of the previous lick or chord sequence so you will have to dig into the manual and see if looping a recorded segment is included l will keep a eye out for any post by you and give you all the help i can you can also email me it would help if i could see the manual or at least part of it so...scan and send as attachments the sections on looping tracks or syncronization with recorded tracks and let me scrutinize these puppys ![]()

Re: ABOUT THE SIZE OF HANDS (22 replies, posted in Electric)
Alvee those thumb grabbing Fths and F# take a little while to play clean and I dont care if yours is smaller then mine (hands)but what is withheld from you is given in other ways as there are things you can do no other can so the bottom line is work with what you have but keep striving for what you dont because getting some place is not as exciting as the trip there ![]()
Russell, I would suggest that your hands are not as small as you make out. Not as small as mine anyway (can't believe I'm having a discussion on mine's smaller than yours!). What annoys me about the size of MY hands is my inability to get my thumb over the top of the neck to play those F anf F# bass notes. But we are an imaginative breed. If you love it you'll find ways to get round it (usually). Hand size determines how you play many chords and phrases. So it does matter. But only until you find a way of doing what you want to do in a way that suits you. Sounds easy but I'm still trying to find a way of getting those F's and F#'s that sounds OK.

I smoked for 45 yrs and loved it then one day i was feeling dizzy and I went to my doctor for a physical after xrays he sat me down and said "Russell you have emphezema and I am commiting you to st marys hospital for therapy and treatment and if you quit smoking today the truth is your lungs will never,I repeat NEVER heal or improve but they will with medication and therapy not degenerate and the good news is the xrays and ultrasound detected NO cancer" well that was in 2001 and I haven't smoked a ciggarette since, true I still have to take inhalers 4 times a day and to be honest I even thought of suicide but my ego is to big to permit that cowaradly escape. So its your choice you can risk it and maybe live a long life free of lung desease or cancer OR wind up on the obituary page where people can read about what a "nice and generious person you WERE while they devide your belongings amoung themselves. The risks are to great,if you smoke find a way, any way you can and quit! period, today! while the choice is still yours to make.

Re: ABOUT THE SIZE OF HANDS (22 replies, posted in Electric)
I agree all of the guitarist you mention are or were great but I still maintain that the size of a persons hand or fingers dose not determin or limit there ability,I think I can pick a few licks even with my short stubby fingers im not placing myself with the guitarist you mention because I dont play there style I really dont put myself in any one catagory or genre and good or bad I will let my music speak for itself people either like it or they dont and thats true with any musician
I've have lots of footage of some great guitar players and the majority have large hands and long fingers, like Buddy Guy, Albert Collins,Steve Ray Vaughn, George Benson, Jimi
Hendricks, Robbie Robertson, Clapton even has long fingers.
Then again Roy Clark's hands are not overly big and he can sure play.two cents worth... Badeye

Re: ABOUT THE SIZE OF HANDS (22 replies, posted in Electric)
The size of your hands or fingers, or lack thereof makes little difference or none people adapt regardless of these factors Django Rinehart (not sure of the correct spelling) had a lack of mobility or a lack of fingers Im not sure which but is reconized as one of the greatest guitarist of all time and on a personal note I have very small hands and I am able to play and stretch 5 frets from the 1st fret and play a fmaj7 if you doubt this look at my profile picture on my web site the chord formation is an a maj 7th (5 frets) and I can play this chord formation on the first or any fret this is not bragging just fact, also keep in mind there are those with severe handicaps ie. no fingers or arms that play with there feet or toes so the question comes down to desire and dedication and heart if you have any of these qualities nothing is impossible.

Re: ok recording (3 replies, posted in Songwriting)
marc if your recording just electric thats no problem you go direct to your digital recorder and weare a head set but if your instruments are accustic like a banjo or guitar then you are going to have to work out a arrangment with your neighbors and whoever lives with you. One possible sulution is since the br-8 is small and portable you could find a location where you could set up a mic and plug in the electric socket maybe a friends garrage or basement or possibly rent a storage shed with electric power thats what i used to do and you could move some old furniture like a table and chair or even a cot if you get a little tired you could always rest a bit at least no one would bug you goodluck

Re: MUSIC INDUSTRY, what is going on? (14 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
I think recording companies or the recording industry as a whole is not interested in how much potential someone has they are only interested if you are there already and what you can do for them because the days of advances on royalities is dead and buried and if you are going to succeed you have to do it all yourself record, mix, promote, design covers and web sites sell enough cd's so they cant ignore you and only then will they offer you a "deal" because they dont have anything to lose as none of there money paid for your hard work or success.
