I only became aware of felt picks towards the end of last year, the missus brought me a Uke for Christmas. I was looking on Chordie under,Other String Instruments when someone mentioned them. I've never even seen them. Although I prefer using fingers and thumb, I have experimented with all types of materials but never felt. Must try it.

I like how you lot in the USA just seem to take all that snow in your stride. Here in the UK a couple of inches and the whole country stops. We seem to be very good at for forcasting the weather, but very poor at preparing for it. At the moment it's. 8.85 pm in Nottingham, snowing slightly but a strong wind making things feel very cold. So I'm off to the pub.

Tanglewood are in fact the UKs best selling acoustic/semi acoustic guitars. I don't know about the pick ups but would be interested in your comments as we have a Tanglewood agent just a few miles from here, and who knows. Maybe I'll be able to have a NGD someday
Welcome to Chordie.

Congratulations and good luck to you and your wife Ed.

I have an EKO six string I brought second hand back in the early 70s. It's  caused quite a few arguments over the years, when the missus thinks I been playing it to long and I tell her. I've had that guitar longer than I've had her, and it's more fun to play with

NELA. I would send you a bag of fish, chips and mushy peas over from the UK, but I think that extend your stay. Get well soon.

Great to see good old Mr Young getting a mention on Chordie. Some of his self indulgent rantings can last 20 minutes but never boring live as he has a stage presence that captivates an audience, unlike many winners of a certain talent show. Myself, I can clear a room just by tuning up. So perhaps its as much about connecting with the audience but that's difficult when they're heading for the door.

Phill, I have read through this link many times, and I wonder. We could go back to the crusades and see this kind of thing happening. This type of scum has no religion or belief, they are just filth who would have committed a murder anyway. I would think most Muslims are as disgusted as we are.
As a FB user on several Neil Young sites as well as local interest sites I did consider your idea of boycotting FB. But would we not have to boycott all the other sites until they get their house in order. And as a footnote. What was the communications company that linked Blaire to Bush, allowing them to slaughter tens, if not hundreds of thousands in Iraq.
I doubt that this post will be published, and it has no place on this site. It's just my point of view.

Hi Charlatan, I'm also from UK (Nottingham). I would think it perfectly normal to ask for discount. After all the goods are not boxed and in the case of a guitar may have been used. You wouldn't  pay full price for  ex  display white goods or a car, and remember. You can take your cash anywhere.

Wow, I never gave any thought to the pins. I've had my old Eko over 40 years, and it was second hand when I brought it. I would suppose the easiest way to find out if you want 3s or 5s would be to e-mail the manufacturers. That's tonights project. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

NELA, O, M, G. What can anyone say to you. Although I feel sure that the wimmin only have your best interests at heart surely you must do what YOU want to do. You paint a great picture of the place that you live so enjoy every
moment. None of us know whats waiting around the corner for us, so we should all enjoy the now.
ps, I had to smile about the term "after I drug up the lengths of wood". Is that legal?
Take care

Footnote to my last post: oops sorry I forgot, their are two L's in Phill.

To describe a musical taste and how you arrive at it would be like trying to weave a tapestry,  but for me the main thread would have to be The Who. In the 60's I think it was their stage antics rather than their skills as musicians that I noticed, although Pete Townshend had a great knack of writing unconventional songs, not the usual boy meets girl, I've been dumped stuff. Early 70s they seemed to abandon their British fans in favour of America. It was at this time I went to watch a band called Argent. The support band who's name I can't remember played a couple of numbers by someone I'd never head of till then, Neil Young. On checking out more of Mr Young's material it started an addiction that has lasted four decades. The style that comes over best to me is when he and other musicians like James Taylor can just sit with an acoustic guitar and maybe harmonica. A couple of others who I have recently become aware of are Bert Jansch and a Welshman, ok Phil two Welshmen. The other being Dave Evans both of whom seem to play the guitar so effortlessly it makes me want to smash mine, just like Pete Townshend

May I wish you both many more happy years together. Congratulations.

This wasn't my thread and I certainly have nothing to add to it, but I have learned so much from reading it. May I say a big thank you to the contributers.

Now you're  playing my tune, love busking and your spot on. You don't do it for the money, you do it for the love of it. Played it and with a few slight  changes. This will be heard on the streets of Nottingham England.
Thank you

sounds like a heavy metal band, although the write up mentions T Rex so I suppose they must be another Glam Rock band.
Although I've never heard of them they must have been big in Argentina.

Universal Soldier, written by Buffy Sainte Marie. It was a big hit for Donovan in America but never did to much here in UK. It's  a truly universal folk song as those four chords can be used for literally hundreds of other songs.
I used to play it as a grumpy young man and it usually ended with me being escorted off the premises.
I'm now a grumpy old man and still getting the same reaction.

I love the sound of some of the place names, but I'm not sure about Hells Canyon and Snake River. Sounds a bit scary to me. Have a great time.

Also, a round of applause for yourself for bringing this to peoples attention. Kids get a lot of undeserved bad press and when they do something positive like this it often goes unnoticed, so well done yourself.
