I wrote this a little over a week ago after looking at pictures of my eldest grandson sleeping, but still hanging on to a favorite toy as if to say, "I'll go to sleep, but I'm still going to play and there's nothing you can do about it!" Posted on my soundcloud site if you care to have a listen at: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/off-to-bed-little-cowpoke-song

Off to Bed (Little Cowpoke’s Song) by Jeff Gilpin

11/27/2014 - for Brodie

[D]It’s off to bed you [G]little cow[D]poke

It’s [A]time you were [G]hitting the [D]hay

Put your [D]saddles away and [G]hang up your [D]rope

Yippy [A]ki yi [G]yippy ki [D]yay

But [F#]Brodies just a lagging

And [Bm]dragging his feet

Too [G]dog tired to move it a[A]long

So [D]I try and prod him and [G]herd him to [D]bed

[A]Singing a little [G]cowpoke [D]song [D7]

So [G]yippy ki yay

Move a[D]long sleepy cowpoke

[A]Yippy ki [G]yay move a[D]long

[G]Yippy ki yi yay

Move a[D]long sleepy cowpoke

[A]Singing a little [G]cowpoke [D]song

Found it - It's in Uke but the chord names are there so you should be able to figure it out for guitar. Mahalo smile

Sorry - posting published song lyrics on here is a no-no. Post the chords if you want but leave the lyrics off.

I have no problem at all with you posting another song in the songwriting forum. That is how it goes from time to time for me as well. A long dry spell, and then bang, bang, bang....one right after another. Throw it up there with the lyrics if you want to, and with my blessings. smile

Could be a resolution issue. A larger boxes in lower resolution settings and/or smaller monitors/screens will sometimes stacks stuff on top in crowded screen views. What are you viewing on and what is your res?

Thanks for your service Russ. I'm an Air Force vet as well. Reminds me of the Johnny Cash line from I Walk the Line...Johnny says, "I got a couple of songs I wrote in the Air Force. You got anything against the Air Force?" Record Producer Sam Phillips says, "No." Johnny replies, "I do."

I couldn't find them posted anywhere. Maybe if you had a video of the song someone could help you figure it out. Good luck.

Found the chords on chordify...kind of funky site but you now have chords and lyrics...enjoy!

Thanks Joe. Writing does go pretty well when I keep in practice. This one was particularly fun because it was about two of my favorite subjects: grandkids and songwriting. No matter how busy I get, I'll always have to make some time to sit down and come up with a new song or two. I can think of no better way to rid myself of all my built up stress. Nothing quite as satisfying as writing a song that is fun to play and has a catchy tune as well. smile

Thanks Graham - Road trips seem to knock out every one for me, including the wife. Strumming a guitar is always my go to when nothing else is working.

Hey Fretfull - Horse with No Name is a great song and I can hear it working as a lullaby  - Glad you like mine. Thanks

I can't count the times I've used this trick, but on my grand-kids since I started playing after my children were older. Guitars and creative minds make great babysitting tools. Here it is if you want a listen: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/babysitting-baby

Babysitting Baby By Jeff Gilpin

Intro

[A] [A7]

[D]Can’t under[G]stand why my [E]baby’s [A]crying

She [A]don’t want a [A7]story or [D]two [D7]

[D]Making up [G]words as they [E]come in my [D]head [A]

[D]Finally she [G]stops to [E]give me her [A]own two cents

That [D]old Bronx [G]cheer that no [E]words could [Em11]have [D]said

[A]So I [A7]get her to [D]make up some [D7]words

[A]Adding to a [A7]song that means [D]nothing [D7]

[F#7]Waiting all day until her [Bm]thoughts have concurred

Got to [E]finish the song and [A]I’m not [A7]bluffing

[D]Who’s that [G]singing that [E]nonsense [A]song

[D]Making up [G]words so that [E]time flies [D]by [A]

[D]Can’t wait to [G]short or I [E]can’t wait to [A]long because

Happy Birthday Chordie! Chordie.com is truly one of the greatest websites I've ever found and I will always come back. Thanks Per for putting up with all of us chordie faithful through the years.

That link only gives you 30 secs of the song, but it starts out C7 slowly strummed (on a Uke I think) then to F when he starts singing back to C or C7 for the second line and continues back and forth between those two chords, but again only goes 30 seconds in so you'll have to figure out the rest. Hope that helps.

I can see how it might fit the pioneering song mold; however, I wrote it for the new pioneers who are not quite as welcomed these days as they were in days of yore. I know back there in those days the immigrants had a tough time getting to there dream destination. Hard to say if it is tougher now.

It's up on soundcloud now if you want to listen: https://soundcloud.com/jets60/a-good-lo … lousy-song

Thanks you all. I'll most likely put it up Saturday morning.

Here is a little bluesy piece I’ve been playing around with tonight. I’ll try and get it up on my soundcloud site soon, but it is pretty straight forward if you want to give it a go.

A Good Love Story Makes a Lousy Song By Jeff Gilpin

October 14, 2014

Intro

[G] [C] [G] [D7]

[G]I heard this girl singing about a guy that done her wrong [G7]

About [C]how she gave her heart to him and how he just ran a[G]long [G7]

I [D]think she was giving the story from her own [D7]view ....because I

[C]Never knew a girl who loved me true [C7]who I would do that to [G] [C] [G] [D7]

[G]Same way you hear some guys sing about the girl he let slip away [G7]

Who [C]couldn’t understand it when he begged her just to turn around and [G]stay [G7]

Now [D]if that girl was worth it I’m sure [D7]she’d of turned around

Instead of [C]packing her bag taking all his money and [C7]running off to town

But a [Em]good love story sure [C]makes a lousy song

[Em]Ain't no since in singing if [A]no one’s done you wrong

And [C]no one wants to [Em]listen to [A]happily ever after for long

Just like a [D]good love story [C]makes a lousy [C7]song [G] [C] [G] [D7]

There [G]ain’t nothing bluesy about getting the girl in the end [G7]

Or about the [C]whole thing working out or marrying your best [G]friend [G7]

[D]Someone’s got to have a heartache while the [D7]other one’s got to die

And [C]nothing tugs the heartstrings like the heart[C7]broken when they cry

Spoken over:[G] [C] [G] [D7] So let me give it a go and see if I can make you well up….

I [G]once had this girl she was my pretty little flower [G7]

I [C]gave her my heart but one day it went all [G]sour [G7]

[D]She found a handsome city man rolling in [D7]money

[C]Rushed back home packed her bags said [C7]see you later honey

Spoken over: [G] [C] [G] [D7]…there that's sad enough…right?...I sure hope so because…

A [Em]good love story sure [C]makes a lousy song

[Em]Ain't no since in singing if [A]no one’s done you wrong

And [C]no one wants to [Em]listen to [A]happily ever after for long

Just like a [D]good love story [C]makes a lousy [C7]song[G] [C] [G] [G7]

Sorry about your son and his wife leaving. I know it hurts as his father. Making music is good medicine for what ails you.
