That's tough Tops. Sorry to hear. Oral cancer, that's a weird one for didn't indulge in tobacco.
A great line from Kung Fu Panda:
Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, but today is a gift. That's why they call it the present.

Welcome to Chordie Spit(?)!!!!!
You can look in the Public Books section under absolute beginner or easy songs. You should be able to find something there. Off the top of my head:
For what it's worth - Buffalo Springfield
Free Fallin - Tom Petty
Without knowing what chords you already know this is as easy as I can think of.
Good luck!!!!!!
If you do decide to go at it lefty it might be a touch easier since you already know what to do. the trick is going to be unlearning what each hand has become accustomed to. That would be kinda cool to be able to play righty on the slide and lefty on guitar. Whatever you decide, stick with your positive attitude and you'll work it out.
MB, I don't know how old you are, but it makes me feel old by how you described your dad telling you about the song. I don't particularly care for it, but Wonderwall is on everyone's easy play list I think. I don't know if Oasis has anything out in recent years. The Gallagher brothers are notorious for having spats and braking up the band.
Hard to say what I would do with it. Help as many people as I could I guess. I've always thought that there should be a limit on how much you can win or more winners should be picked. If you took the 640 mil and made it so each winner got 15 mil after taxes that would make like 21 millionaires. Especially with the state of our economy, many winners would help out more than just one. That's 21 times as many houses, cars, boats, planes, vacations, and other big ticket items that would be bought instead of just one new Carribean island known as Jerome Isle. I know it's all random, but somehow it could be done. Besides, if there was more of a chance to win then more people would play. I don't know, just a thought.
If your effort is to avoid poor drivers, don't come here.
I think we lead the pack in bad drivers!!!!!!
The trick is to not keep all your guitars in the same room. That way you don't see the herd together. One in the livingroom, one in the bedroom, one in the basement, heck just get one for every room in the house. Then no matter where you are, if he urge strikes you an axe isn't far away.
That's funny Beamer!!!!!!
Ok, so we have to dream about playing what he uses as practice. I'm thinking......not fair!!!!!! I totally feel like I missed something along the way. Seriously, how does he play like that?
Hi Binaary, welcome to Chordie!!!!
I too find it hard to interpret strum patterns. If I can see someone do it I'm way better off. While I don't know of any books, I look for tutorial vids on youtube. I can usually put something together by watching a few other people do it.
Here's a helpful vid I found a while back:

The most common answer you will get is to feel out the song and get it that way. I can rarely do this, so don't feel like you'er the only one.
Sorry, no requests at this time. Giveaway items are limited to stock on hand.
So funny, just last week I was thinking Chordie should have a facebook page.
+1 on the Justin vid.
I use this one also:

Right around the 2:00 min. mark. Funny tho, if you watch his pinky he is letting it fly like Justin says not too. LOL. This one helps with my stretching too.
I am the one who first talked about said "hype" I just meant that they are so popular and everyone swears they are the greatest. Martin this, Martin that. This automatically turns me off. I'm sure they are great guitars and of course I would take one. But I don't have a dream to have one or strive to obtain one. If I was able to afford one I would most likely look into other brands first. If you can play guitar, it doesn't matter what brand name you have.
I ran across this in a round about sorta way. I was going thru some old cd's and this song popped up. I had heard the versino in this vid before so I looked it up to hear again. All I can say is WOW. Listen to the control in her voice. She's amazing. And to have the legendary Funk Bros. behind her, that's almost musical perfection.

My wife and I have seen Joan live twice. She is an absolutely great singer. Too bad she hasn't had more hits. In recent years she has gone a little country for my taste.
YAY NGD!!! Pics please. Oh sorry, so used to asking.
While I can't share in your joy of a Martin (too much hype), I can definitely share in your joy of warm fuzzies playing something you love.
CAUTION:
Being in love with your new guitar can have the following side effects:
Lack of sleep
Bleeding finger tips,
Sink full of dishes,
Hungry family,
Unpaid bills,
Angry neighbors,
Sore cheeks from smiling,
and a Hoarse voice.
Please take care in the operation of such addicting instruments.
Las Vegas area? Wait a minute, did you place that ad Baldy?
You can try to roll your finger over to the side a little so your finger nail is closer to the nut. Hope that makes sense. That way your finger is more rigid and the strings don't fit into your knuckle creases.

Right about 4:00 mins. is where he gets to it. But the vid is good.
I figured it out. Just like learning a song, I needed someone to show me how to do it. I found a guy on Youtube that has some cool vids on licks and scales. So I just have to learn lots of those and then I can plug them in. I've already familiarized myself with a couple of 'em.
Here's who I found:
http://www.youtube.com/user/rotren
But I still want to do something like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZcQvkyuw0g
Not in that style, sounds a little countryish. But playing chords and throwing in a lick. Like the description says, jam with yourself.
I'd trade you in a second Zurf!!! If I went outside at any point today I would have drowned. It's been raining and windy all day. Was coming in sideways around noon. I hate being cooped up in the house.
Ok, we've talked about this before but I' still confused. I'm looking at improving with blues scales. I just don't understand the whole concept of making it up as you go. I have to play things in a pattern. So everything I play has been practiced. I find it hard to go up a few notes then two same notes with a bend then back down. Stuff like that. If I work on it for a while I can get it but that makes it a practiced pattern. I know how it sounds, I like it, and I want to do it. I just don't know how it's done. I guess my question is, within a given scale, how do you noodle around? Is it just experience? It's not practice because that's not noodling. Maybe I'm overthinking it.
Thoughts????
Better watch out, the Trout's gonna steal that thing first chance she gets!!!!!!
Congrats on the new guit and the first pic upload!!!!! I like the burst, looks like an upside down guitar pick. Funny how much shapes vary from guitar to guitar.
