lol seems like every topic you post on ends up being a two mile long debate board jerome.... not complaining though smile
Not sure what pattern Jazz would use, but the circle of fifths my dad taught says this song would be

1                               2            1
the hand of death is drawing closer
                                          3
soon i must go to that far shore

the pattern is for the key of G

1=g
2=c
3=d
4=a
5=e and so on and so forth

or for another example in the key of A, a would be one, d would be two, e would be three, b would be four, Gb is five....

but yeah you're right using the number would probly work better.

Ah to be back home in Seedtcik.... Up till the last couple of years i was livin' out in the woods (not really BACKWOODS backwoods, but it was down there a ways if u know what i mean). Used to go craw daddin' with my cousins down on 'the branch' as we called it. Had a swimmin' hole too.
One TIme we caught a craw dad and we were gonna see how big we could get it if we fed it. My cousin Paul names everything Pete so thats what we called him. Found out Craw dads really like bacon.... anyway we eventually had to let him go cuz our parents said he stunk up the house lol
This song makes me miss the good old days, and realize how much i haven't really adjusted to this city livin' yet. BEsides checking this site for music and stuff im still an 'american offline'

hey reb, didnt feel left out, just a crack at the people in my town who wont or cant play a little country.  its funny because every muscian here plays the blues but refuses to play country.  didnt Hank say counry aint nothing but the white mans blues?

Well you have to keep in mind that Hank learned to play from an old blues guitarists named Rufus Payne (hank called him Tee Tot). There wasn't a huge difference between the two, (they both came from the same place really...) except for the race of the singer. When early music began to be marketed black singers went under 'blues' and white singers went under 'hillbilly music' or something similar.

Anybody on here ever met anybody famous before? (Really talking about musicians but i guess anybody'll do).

And my cousin swears she saw a dude who looked just like Kid ROck had the same 'paul' tattoo and everything. Ive SEEN mark chesnutt before on his way to go fishing at the lake next to where i used to leave, think he still keeps a house in toledo ben....  anyway im friends with a guy that co -wrote Georege Strait's "Ocean Front Property in Arizona". Wouldn't have guessed he'd do somehting like that but he knows the dude that writes strait's material....

i have a george Les pickup which is a detachable humbucker, and when i hook it to my big amp it sounds arright

Hey dude srry if u felt left out.... lets see, Ernest Tubb is the man dude, if i had to pick a fav. from that era and there were no Hank Sr. it's probly be him. And the possum is (as Hank Jr. affectionately referred to him,) the number one country man smile
Chet Atkins, even though i don't listen to him all that often, deserves respect from any country music guitarists (as dose Waylon and WIllie...)

that makes things a bit clearer now to me on the definition on country music.

Ken

if i had time to do a WHOLE lot of typing i could give you the basic history/scope on the whole thing lol.... but you might be better off checking on country music at Wikipedia, its got a good page or two on it.

most if it sucks, but there are a few (if rather rare) 'diamonds in the rough' so to speak. I don;t think its the fact that its new that makes it bad, so don't mistake me. i think the pop culture world has come to put more emphasis on image then the quality of the music. Another thing is, (while dont get me wrong there are some awesome stuuf you can do with computers and guitar effects and i really do enjoy them), but we have too many ways to electronically cover up mistakes and make it sound better. Not that I don;t want music to sound better, I just think it ought to sound good without being polished up too.
I think the best singers and players are the ones who could sit down in front of you with just thier guitar and thier own voice and still sound great..... so anyway thats just my opinion. Nice to meet another girl who plays by the way.

well you can frog to bluegrass, but there are different styles of country music, one of which is folk by the way...

theres honky tonk- hank williams web pierce, etc.

country pop- kenny rogers, ronnie milsap etc.

western swing- bob wills, asleep at the wheel...

outlaw country- waylon jennings, willie nelson, (some consider Johnny Cash as outlaw country even though his career was at its strongest before the movement), tompall glaser, and sometimes they put Hank Jr. and Merle Haggard on the list, and most recently Shooter Jennings

Cowboy Country- George Straight, Clint black, Chris Ledoux etc.

Traditional Country- Patsy CLine, Alan Jackson, etc. etc.

Classic COuntry (whihc is basically anything from the 40's-80's that wasn't really outlaw country)- Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Dolly PArton, Patsy CLine, Faron YOung, Ernest Tubb(he actually fit in with 'Hank Sr. and others)

Anyway the list goes on and on...

Hey Reb - I'd keep it, that last verse I mean - It kind of ties the story up and brings it to a sad country ending if you know what I mean. I don't know about the title though, maybe something thats more specific to the song because Country song is kind of a generic and the song isn't in my opinion. I kind of like the last line of your chorus for the title. What do you think? I'm also a big Hank fan so I love your chords.

lol country song isn't the title, i just put that because its A country song. I Really hadn;t even put a lot of thought into a title yet, but yeah I like the idea about using the last line of the chorus... kind of reminiscent of some of Hank's stuff actually.

Can't forget Weylon Jennings,or Don Williams,Buck Owens,Jim Reeves,Conway Twitty,. There is a book out there called "The Streets of Babalon" about the country music industry in the early 1970's. A very good read .

Have a good day...Badeye.

I didn't put Waylon on the list.... woops! Trust me I aint forgot him I could have swore I wrote that too..
Anyway sounds like a good book.

Good Job!

Well, no.  Not for me.  With the group I play in, the only songs to which I know the words are the ones I wrote.   Everything else is "lalalalalalalala"

For me, it's the music that matters.  Lyrics are completely interchangeable.

I'd quote the other responses too but thats a lot of trouble...

not that every body can sing AND play good but a good band really needs both. Singing IS music after all.

SO here's one i wrote at like 2 in the morning so I figgered I see how it did under the light of day. I'd like to say this is a very personal song inspired by my own experiences.... but its actually just some words that popped in my head when i couldn't sleep so anyway here it goes. (kind of a classic country hank williamsish sound..)

G                   C
Your Sweet ways

                   G
Were just a lie

                                D
I can see it in your eyes

                        C
i knew deep down

                     G
You'd never love me
                             D               G
And i don't know why i even try

CHORUS:
G                             C
YOu've got hungry eyes

                                     G
For things that I can't give you

                                                  D
I knew I'd never keep you satisfied

                         G
And though Im blue

                  Em
Lord unto dyin'

            G           D           G
I can't say that I'm surprised

Like a lonely bird I am crying

Now that you are gone

And it don;t stop the tears from falling

That i knew this would happen all along

I wrote this verse too but i don;t know if i want to keep it or not...

i'm Watching you now with another
But I knew that you would leave me from the start
But like a fool, I fell for you
And like the thing I knew you were you broke my heart

yeah when i first started playing i used to cut up like dawn soap bottles and make picks out of them,,,

Hi arkady, nice song. Lol could have been a country western number.
SOmetimes its the simplest of lyrycs that really mean the most. Take for instance I'm so lonesome I could cry. Aint no deep thinking to figure out what it means and yet it can hit so close to home.... anyway nice one, love it when you can slip those minor chords in there
