interesting lyrics there Beamer

reminds me of Shakespeare's  As You Like It:

With spectacles on nose and pouch on side;
His youthful hose, well sav’d, a world too wide
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion;
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.

your words mean the same to me - but an easier read.
I look forward to your rendition of it in song

So heartfelt with raw emotion. He would be so fortunate to call you a friend.
Hopefully we will all meet someday.

That was a fine tribute.

Cheers to you and Malcom !

Maybe someday I'll get around to attempt a recording.
Cheers to you all

Yes 23 skidoo has a lot of meanings that kind of revolve around getting out of some place. some say it's used to also to quickly leave because it's dangerous.
My reference is just let's go - let's move on from covid
Their is actually a lot of controversy as to how it came about - many claiming fame to it's origin.
John Prine is amazing- as a song writer and as a performer. He was in the military and worked as a mailman for 6 years before he got his break.

LOL the cigarette- he is also chewing gum !
Sure wish I could have hung out with him for just a couple of hours, it would've been unforgettable I'm sure.
That would be a good chordie question - If you could spend an evening hanging out with any musician past or present - who would it be ?

Thanks for taking a look

Cheers

I listened to John Prine yesterday and one my faves of his is  " Jesus: The Missing years"
It is brilliant.

So I got the Idea to pay tribute to him since he passed away due to covid related circumstances.
I would suggest listening to his song @   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suoJ6mLVBlU   before your try to figure mine out.

These are my words and chords ( well actually - his chords  smile  )

Probably needs work but I'm tired
and I also got my second dose of the Vaccine today !!! smile

Covid: The Missing Years by Jim Kenyon

[D]It was early March, and Spring was on the way

[G]I looked out my window, looked like a pretty healthy day

Had [A]a lot of plans in mind, so many gigs to play

Never thought a virus, could take them all [D]away

.

[D]Everyone said China, eating bats might be the blame

[G]Doesn’t really matter much, life will never be the same

With [A]numbers, symptoms, strategies , everyday some new facts

what’s the truth, what are lies, and who has got our[D] backs

.

[D]I thought this can’t be happening, it seemed so surreal

[G]People taking temperatures, asking how do you feel

Closing[A] down our schools and even places that we eat

Looking out from my front porch, just see an empty[D] street

.

Chorus

[D]Well Jimmy got quarantined, [G]Arlene wore her mask

[A] Did you get your vaccine, is the question they all [D]ask

[D]Things shut down all around the world, [G]ain’t nothing much to do

[A]Just wishing we could go back in time and 23[D] skidoo

.

[D]Thousands were getting sick, yeah many people up and died

[G]Common folk and celebrities, a whole lot of people cried

No [A]concerts or games to watch, can’t even see our children play

Health care workers on the line, nearly every single [D]day

.

[D]Work from home, meet in zoom, make tik-toc’s to pass the time

[G]Silently stealing our lives away, seems like that should be a crime

Might [A]never gotten that first kiss, lost a summer at the beach

Lost the last chance to hold someone, cause they were out of [D]reach

.

[D]We talk about the future, but seems we’re living in the past

[G]Watching how the world has changed, hidden behind our mask

Can’t [A]give up hope, it’s been to long, wish the end was in sight

but if we all stick together, somehow, we can win this [D]fight

.

[A]Just wishing we could go back in time and 23[D] skidoo

[A]Just wishing we could go back in time and 23[D] skidoo

There are so many... you and I seem to  have similar taste in Music

The Cape - Guy Clark   one of my favorites I have the lyrics posted in my classroom
Hendrix- Stone free
Hotel Yorba- All they got inside is vacancy  smile
White Rabbit - Jefferson Airplane  great group
Down by the Riverside - Louis Armstrong -  OMG  his voice sounds like yours on this -  like Phill said above - just adds to the music   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ih3kVkk5_Q
Marakesh express - CSNY  awesome harmonies
Last train to Clarksville - I was always a Monkees fan

There are so many here !  SO CLEVER !!   great song

I actually told Graham those exact sentiments -  when I started putting it together I had an idea in my head, by the time I was halfway through I said to myself "holy crap - this a great song - it could mean 100 things to a hundred different people.  Did the best I could as to how I saw it.

Thanks for the kind words.

Cheers to you all !

Jim

Agreed.

In fact I was excited today to see the post by Strummerboy Bill - but alas it was just a newbie replying to an old post of his.

I was thinking the other day about  a couple of the girls that used to be here regularly - Kiki Jan, Mekidsmom, (Amy)
They come to my thoughts often.

Thanks for the reminder.

Agreed
Phill is not only an excellent musician, but a true humanitarian that shares his talents

I’d be quite lost without his help

Hope you feel better soon

Beamer,

I think you must have wrotten this about one of my good friends - it describes him pretty well.
Cool calm and collected until he reaches a certain point, then watch out.

Time Bomb might be a good title.

Sounds like something is imminent is always just around the corner.

Good work

I would imagine that song reflects that you don't mind at being with your Maree under lockdown.

The song has a super rhythm to it and the lyrics send a great message.
I enjoyed that a lot. Was that your house and animals ?
Cheers to you and Phill
