Tenement Funster wrote:I'm going to vote for the Les Paul also. The humbucker sound is typically my first choice because of the music I like (classic rock, prog rock, etc.). The single coil sound of a Strat lends itself better for blues, southern rock, and country, where smooth / clear / twang is favored over the thick / growling / chunky tones of the humbuckers.
That said, you've crafted two very beautifully voiced guitars!
TF thanks for the kind words, I agree with the LP just something about it makes you want to practice lol
dino48 wrote:Both sound great Russell,I am leaning alittle more too the Les Paul it is most likely because of the songs. I liked the stars and sky/moon background.
Thank you! dino I like the background myself I found it by accident it was tucked away in my Pinnacle HD video program along with 40 other motion backgrounds. I favor the LP for blues and harder rock but the Strat has three hot Texas coils and can produce some very interesting sounds.
This is a bit on the long side I am testing new software for TrakAx Pro a video production company and also the 1st time I have played both my new Les Paul and the Strat I put together from scratch. There are a few errors namely when I switched over to my Strat I had a problem getting the strap off the Les Paul and one of my strings was out of tune so I had to tune it on the fly but I did get a chance to record my newest song ( instrumental part) no lyrics yet but it is promising

Tenement Funster wrote:Happy NPS day, Russell.
You're a man of many talents: guitarist, guitar builder, photographer, videographer, sound recording tech, etc. No way a person can get bored with all those abilities.
Atta boy!
Thank you TF Most of the stuff I learned was only because no one was available to teach me sink or swim
Glad to be able to help all kinds of cool stuff just have to look and look and then if you lucky you might type in the right question
It arrived two days ago and I assembled it this evening, I did shoot a test video and processed it with two different software programs next I am adding a few more tracks to my Tascam and overlay the greenscreen video with the motion videos and just add the soundtrack and done this is the studio
The greenscreen is actually folded in half the frame telescopes out to 12 feet and rolls out on the bottom about 3 feet

A sweet looking guitar there, hope ya have a lot of fun with it congrats!!
dino48 wrote:That was cool Russell some blues and a little rock in there also, the guy on top of the thing looks like he has a shotgun.
The guy on top is a guard some of the workers were inmates they nicknamed them "Gandydancers"
Hey guys I know it aint Friday but I kinda really like this song sort of traditional blues and a take on the Rock Island Line

sounds like an economic solution and as long as it gets the job done that's all that counts as for the non latency I think you have asio4all installed in the Audacity program files, I like it also for other reasons also it works with my IK Multimedia software Miroslav Philharmonk virtual instruments.
Tenement Funster wrote:As you predicted, the gold appointments with the green body look fantastic. Another nice job, Russell!
Thank you! I also like the lime green pickguard it is just a hint of color and sets off the body and hardware
dino48 wrote:super nice Russell!!

Thanks BJ I plan on doing a video with the Les Paul and my new strats cold weather coming and I stay home as much as possible
Tyson7 wrote:Russell, Looks very cool, I bet it sounds just as good. Do you ever have to adjust the neck or intonation when you build these ? Been thinking about doing one but I'm hung up on the neck issues.
Joe
Building it is the easy part the neck is critical it has to be aligned with the tremolo or your bridge to insure the strings line up on the neck and over the pickups, what I do is put the neck on and look down the center to see if it is straight then I lay the bridge on and string the low and high E's just tight enough to see that they align and have room to fret, once that is confirmed I mark the outside holes of the tremolo and drill a small starter hole if you don't have a drill a screw works too then I mount the bridge & springs. I always mount the pickups and lower them they can always be raised then the pickguard with all the electric components, It's a good idea before mounting the neck to mount the pickups and wiring, pots selector switch and thread the wires to the input jack and tremolo ground and make sure the neck is the same width as the pocket so it fits snug. then comes the fun part setting the intonation, spring pressure, string height and possibly a truss rod adjustment and plug in a chord to see if the pickups are working before mounting the pickguard with the pickups and wiring. lastly move the selector switch to the treble position and tap on the bridge pickup to see it you have a connection do the same with the other pickups in the center and neck positions if all of them work you good to go.
I know the feeling I play my new Les Paul a lot I did 2 string changes on it in less then 3 weeks and all the material I have been "jamming" is recorded automatically on my Gibson memory cable and uploaded into two folders one for slide licks and the other for song ideas the folks at Gibson were right it is a great tool for composing and practice.
I picked this up at Walmart online one of the things I like is that it is lightweight and portable which will allow me to shoot videos anywhere and add the backgrounds or videos I choose the lighting and frame is included

I like it! feels like a Tom Petty song in a way nice tune Phill
Tenement Funster wrote:Hi Russell ...
The big question about your new project is ... what kind of pickups are you planning for it? I recall you put the hot Texas ones in your last one; got something different in mind for the emerald one?
I plan on swapping the hot coils from my white one and installing Fender pickups I got them free I know it sounds crazy but I removed all the gold hardware and replaced it with chrome the gold hardware will look better on the new body with a mint green pickguard when I finish I will take some photos of both trust me they both will look hot,

Nice work man !
You mentioned www.guitarfettish.com - I went there -- some of their guitars look great, and like all sellers - the descriptions sound great as well. . I was especially looking at the hollowbody guitars. Do you have any experience or knowledge regarding the quality of the Xaviere guitars they sell ?
Jim
Jim the Xaviere line is high quality I use there strings in fact everything I buy from guitarfettish is top notch, another good source for inexpensive and quality guitars is Rondo music where I purchased my Douglass.
I listened to both versions a few times and there are merits to both, version one is slower and has a New Orleans jazz feel to it I kind of liked this version more, my only criticism would be the length of the 1st keyboard solo 2 bars would have been sufficient as more of a fill before the next verse, the keyboard solo should have replaced the guitar solo which to be honest dragged a bit and was a bit over the top in the mix with a few bad notes thrown in but overall is the best take of the two. I liked the backing vocals in version two nice touch on that Phill, the keyboard solo was a little to quiet in the mix the longer solos seem to be a passing thing today more emphasis is placed on lyrical content that said this is a good collaboration overall and I think your efforts deserve an honest opinion
