We need snow here and you need sunshine, something is wrong.

I propose a HOUSE SWAP!  big_smile  We have more water available than you can imagine!  Once all this snow finally does melt, my back yard will almost be a pond for a few months due to a spring fed well running through it that isn't draining anywhere (except clearly my backyard).  We've got a lake nearby as well that might just flood over the next month as well.  You'll have plenty of water!  I'll gladly take the sunshine off your hands and go by the old rules "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down".  I swear, I can do it!

It is strange though isn't it?  I can't ever recall any serious drought like conditions in NY and we worry about flooding every year from snow melt, but it's an ongoing issue in CA.  I remember being there last year and the people being so excited for a little sprinkle of rain and feeling so out of place for the water I take for granted (and complaining because I wanted the sunshine CA's known for - dumb tourist LOL).

I can see green grass in a few spots... but the shovel won't go in further than a 1/2 inch... frozen (except where the deer pushed all the snow away to get to the acorns a few weeks ago), and the snow on top is just melting and pooling and creating puddles on top of ice.  We're expecting snow, just in time for spring!

Forecast says we're going to hit 50 today!  I'm hoping the ground starts thawing soon... I've got melt off from the snow running toward my basement but until the ground thaws I can't divert it elsewhere!  50 though, a HEAT WAVE!  Might have to sit on the porch!  Maybe even pull out the grill if the snow's not too high in front of the pole barn.

I have to agree that finding Mexican food sitting alongside Chinese food is very strange.  It's becoming the "norm" up here in the Chinese Buffets though.  I feel your confusion there for sure NELA!

So, Jim's (mekidsdad, the hubster) not super great with forums and he's still learning how to do this thing... but please wish him a happy NGD!

He finally found out what I mean when I say, "let the guitar pick you, you'll just know".  Of course, that came with a price tag, but our local Guitar Shop is AWESOME and for some crazy reason they love to over discount their stock and provide interest free layaways with as little or as much down as you can afford.  So... we put a little down each week and the taxes just came back so I picked it up for him on Thursday.  I'll help him post some pictures later on and let him tell you more about his new Taylor 812e 12  fret (2013) in honey burst!

Anybody know how to set up a web cam site for hosting vid of chordiestock?

Check out Google+ Hangouts On air - you can either make a private event where people have to be invited (could be just a G+ hangouts group of up to 10 friends), or public broadcast linked to a YouTube account.  If you set it up through Youtube, you can then choose to snip portions of the video to post directly to Youtube later without having to do any additional video taping/recording/etc.

Hmmmmm,  I never managed to build any type of callouses up with the nylons,  it wasnt until I switched to steel and it wasn't for a lack of trying. I used to use Daddario Pro Arte lights.  Now that I have callouses, any old nylon works just fine.

Weird... this thread showed up in my "recent" list... and clearly it wasn't recent!  I didn't even pay any attention to the fact that the last post was in October.  Sorry!

Yup, the Virgina Jam is here on my youtube page:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gD8Oe-BBMOQ

I didn't do anything special except for turn the recorder on... and normalize the audio then cut and pasted a few different clips together.  I have the Zoom H2, found here:  http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/h2  It's a few years old, they have even fancier ones now of course.  Tascam makes some nice ones too.  If you look in this recording section, you'll find some other recommendations as well.

How are you liking Mixcraft so far?  I keep dabbling with it, but haven't resigned to actually read through the manual while dabbling so I will be a bit longer before I actually mix anything worth listening to.  LOL!

I think I have to disagree with both, to a degree.

1. Everyone can do something that sounds kind of like singing.  I wouldn't always call it singing though.  I had the unpleasant experience more times than I'd like to remember of people trying to stand close to me in a Choir setting so that I could drown them out or so they could hear what notes they should be singing.  I'm not sure, but it made my job of trying to hit the right notes difficult.  Despite their abilities, their enthusiasm was always there, and they appeared to be singing even if it was painful to listen to.  They would say they were singing.

2.  I've heard some singing that's so off no amount of electronic gadetry could possibly make it sound good.

I don't want to sound like a snob here.  I too sing for myself, for my soul.  I share because other people seem to like to listen to it.  I do think enthusiasm makes up for a lack of talent a lot of the time as far as entertainment value goes.   But, I still say those people "can't sing".  LOL!  Bob Dylan's got a lot of awesome songs.  I can't listen to an entire Dylan album.

I received Mixcraft as a gift over the holidays.  I've used Audacity.  I imagine every software has a learning curve.  You can do MOST of the same things in Audacity that you can do in Mixcraft, it's just not "as pretty" and in some ways not as easy, but in others even easier.  Frankly, I haven't played with it enough yet to feel comfy with everything it can do, but it sounds like it's a whole lot more than you need!

If he's doing all the mixing, you certainly don't need Mixcraft on your end or any program for that matter.  All you need is a way to record your stuff and send it to him.  Unless you plan on doing a lot of mixing of your own stuff down the road, spend your money on a nice recording device instead because they come in handy for lots of uses!  I have a Zoom recorder.  It records wav files, can normalize files, and convert to mp3.  If you don't need to do any mixing yourself, then that's all you need!

On another note... if you don't have something like a Zoom recorder, how do you plan to record yourself?  Using a standard Computer Mic with Mixcraft is likely not going to do the trick.  As an example, I've tried using my Zoom as a USB mic and go directly though Mixcraft to record on the computer, and I have issues (my computer sucks).  So, I generally record on my Zoom and then transfer the files to the computer to play around in the software.  Really, that's all your brother wants.  Send him recordings so he can mix.  You don't need any program for that, just a decent device to record with.  smile  You can certainly try Audacity and whatever devices you have laying around that you can record on plugged into the computer.  You'll get the same quality as you would have if you'd done it through Mixcraft for the price of free.  I still swear by my Zoom though.  It's what I used to record the Virginia Chordie gathering out in the woods running on batteries.

LOL!  It's a "Sun, Snow, and Recreation" shop where you can buy ATV's, Boats and accessories, as well as snowmobiles like "Arctic Cat" brand.  wink

UJB - it doesn't look like there's much snow accumulated there!  Of course, that doesn't make the frigid temperatures any better.  My area had record lows yesterday and an average temperature of NINE degrees F for the month of February so far.  Brrrr...

I personally went after all mahogany specifically looking for that "boomy" sound.  It's more than "boomy" in my opinion though.  It's... well... from a woman's point of view, equal to chocolate and coffee.  LOL!  I've got K&K pickups and don't have issues, but I can see how mic'ing it could be an issue.

Like NELA said, everyone has an opinion and a certain sound they're looking for.  I hope you find what you love, or rather, it finds you!

Congrats BGD - You'll be surprised, but it won't really much matter what happens in the first hour (the nurses will traumatize the baby with the first bath after the squishing of her head to get out, all she'll want to do is nurse and sleep).  BUT... I had little lullabies I made up for my kids that I'd hum and sing all the time.  I've written them on paper and tucked them away... someday maybe I'll try to put them to guitar.

As they've gotten into ages 4 and up, they liked

Puff the Magic Dragon
The Last Unicorn
Anything from any Disney princess movie played over and over and over until my head hurts  wink

Here's a view across the lovely Oneida Lake

And what it looked like yesterday out and about (we needed to visit Petco to get a new lamp for the fish tank).  I consider this to be "normal" road conditions in February on a major road (there's a mall and every major store you could wish to find on this 4 lane road).  Before you go there... Yes Scott, the inside as well as the outside of my car needs a serious detailing!  BUT... I wash it one day and it's covered in sand and salt and 3 inches of snow the next.  tongue  We've got below zero temps and I'm just thankful to get the wheel wells cleared of rock hard frozen slush so my little red buggy doesn't shake so much on the highway.  wink

And last but not least, the view out my front porch and the shovel wide clearing I've got for the kids to get on and off the bus (it's over their heads).  This was taken last night... looks like I need to shovel again.

I will get a few pics up later on for ya, but it resembles the other snowy scenes.  Someone almost pulled into the snowmobile trail near my house that crosses the main road, thinking it was my driveway the other day.

Badeye, I love the hockey stick shovels!!!!!!!!!

As it turns out, we've got a few weddings and a Family Reunion to go to out of town this summer.  Assuming someone decides to throw a funeral into the mix... it's likely we won't be planning a huge gathering this year.  If we plan this for next year, what are your thoughts, Zurf?  You want to be knee deep in fishermen, or just float about like DE?  Exactly what does your ideal Salmon River trip look like in your mind's eye?  If I can help make it happen, I'd love to!  It's so close to my home, I can rent a place a year in advance to ensure room during the busy season (um... kinda have to do it at least a year in advance if you want to be here during the running).  Or... I can find some campgrounds (NY has lots of really nice State Parks for camping), and of course if we want to be even lazier... we can always just hang in the back yard!  I've got plenty of space for tents.  Or, if you're feeling really peachy, we have some 17 acres of uninhabited wooded land and we could just call it a true outdoor experience.  Although... I personally prefer to have some running water and a toilet nearby myself.  wink

Best wishes, and thoughts with you both.  I'm sure it's scary for both of you right now.  Hopefully they get it under control more without having to do much more than perhaps an Rx change.  Take care of yourself, Bill!!!  Let the docs take care of her.

Do you see the option available to add to songbook?  Roger's advise may be warranted here.  smile

If you don't see the add to songbook option, or the print option, then this is likely a mobile browser/mobile version of the site rendering issue.  We are trying to clear this issue up, but will need some more details from you.  Please advise if you see these options and can't add, or if you don't see these options at all.  Make sure you are signed into Chordie on the iPad as well.  smile
