Tig ... thanks so much.  Yes good old King of the Road, an oldie but a goodie.  I always remember my parents singing this at parties smile

CG ........... not who your comment was for but thanks for commenting anyway and its always good to see you make an appearance in here.  Hope to hear some of your music on here one of these months smile

So here are a couple of Covers (or should I say attempts at covering) another two songs for this month.  Gee I must be on a roll, 3 songs covered this month! (shock yikes)

King of the Road    https://soundcloud.com/ukulelejan/king-of-the-road

Royals     https://soundcloud.com/ukulelejan/royals

Nice ones neo .......listened to them both yesterday but didn't get a chance to comment until today.  We must have both had the same song in our heads as I did King of the road as well smile

Hi Diana, welcome to Chordie, lovely to see another lady join us on here smile

HI Tig,  thanks for feedback and agree, it does make the song sound Happy lol which is not how the song is meant to go at all.  I would love to have sung it slowly and hauntingly but my guitar skills are not up to sounding at all good other than a very boring strum.  Maybe I should have just sung it no instrument? but then that kinda defeats the purpose of Chordie which is to use an instrument of some sort.  Oh well, maybe when my guitar skills attain a better standard for slow songs lol smile  Ahem I still avoid songs with that dreaded F chord too (shush) wink

Here is my cover of Captain Kennedy by Neil Young.
I ended up singing it alot faster than the original version by Neil Young, simply because I couldn`t even begin to play it like Neil does let alone sing it like him.  I hunted high and low to find the fantastic tabbing/ picking he uses for the intro and outro and in fact through out the song but to no avail.  So after singing it in various styles, including in a slow haunting style which I liked, I realised without the awesome tabbing Neil does, it just didn't sound right with the strum I was using..... so decided to make it my own version and faster ................ AND still learning guitar.

Well that first one Strummerboy certainly fits in with this months category and was a bit of a laugh, I hadn't seen that before smile

Well written TF.
The  Media and its information or misinformation these days really provides speakers, writers, poets, songwriters a full menu of choice morsels to choose from ........... handed  to us on a platter it seems ..... for those so inclined to speak, sing and write.

Jim ..... I have no idea how to play jazz either ....... I think it is probably a matter of just sitting and learning (google is our friend these days smile )  I agree with Peatle`s comment, so many of your songs can take on many different styles.  I am alway in awe of just how many songs you write.  I thought your vocals were absolutely fine with this song too smile

landav5 thanks for the suggestion and great to see you join in here smile   Just in case your interested, this month of June which if you look in FSOTM for June, we are doing covers of songs such as this about Captains etc.  If your into doing covers, we would love to hear you do a cover of this song in that thread smile

Grah1 ........ that was so good.  You and the boys did a fantastic job! smile

As I told you already, you did a great job of this song easybeat, well done, you nailed it all by yourself smile Definitely a jazzy sound.

Yep I offered to do one of your jazz songs for you but just to clarify,  you will need to write the lyrics out and send me the chords and even better if it you send a recording of you playing just the guitar so I can sing to it.   So you won`t be able to do a one off this time smile  you will need to actually write the chords and lyrics down (now from what you told me already, that will be a challenge in a half lol )  wink big_smile  lol

And no worries, I find it a challenge and half even writing a song full stop!!!

Thanks so much TIG and Bill that is very helpful.  However I see am trying to find someone who is teaching it online visually (I learn best visually).  I want to see which strings they re picking.

Thanks for looking for me TF I appreciate that.  At this stage looks like I will have to just play it without the nice fancy bits.

Has anyone come across this song online where it is taught?  I can find chords and the odd tab but I can`t seem to see anyone online teaching it.  There are you tubers out there covering it themselves but not teaching which is what I am after as I want to learn the tabbing they seem to be doing on the intro and throughout.

I have only ever had the privilege to perform publicly in the last 3-4 years in a small group of ladies who all play ukulele and we perform once a month in rest homes.   We also do a little bit of busking in the summertime when the cruise ships come in, to raise money to buy  ukulele`s for children.  It is nice to play for the elderly and we enjoy it.
I have only ever once performed  at a gig (with the same group but back then we had a much bigger group with a couple of guys in it) and we performed at a 50th birthday gig and it was such fun, loved it.  We did all the old songs that everyone knows the words to and it was a blast.  We had them all up dancing.   I wish I had discovered the fun of singing in groups or bands when I was younger.

TF I wouldn't let some ignorant jerk put you off performing ........... you have a gift, use it, for yourself and for others smile

(Edited to add a bracket in  and to add "at a gig" - Jandle)

mojo, congrats on being the first off the bat for this month.  Feedback on soundcloud given and as I said on there, this song is such an oldie but a goodie, a great sing along song and you covered it well smile

Nice one easybeat.  I left a comment on Soundcloud.  Very different to your other stuff, a mixture of Latin and Jazz.  I like it, well done to you smile
