Nice amp, but I can see from the photo what your headache problem's coming from.... volume's too high!   Fender amps are fantastic, peavy is no slouch either, that acoustisonic has plenty of headroom to literally fill the room and like you said tons of effects to fiddle with.

You are very Welcome Amy, I am pleased you are pleased.  The last one I put in was in a Taylor for a Very OCD friend who was freaked about drilling that big ol' hole for the strap-plug.... but naturally all that concern was for naught and vanished with the first sounds from the amp. Had to winch him off the ceiling and strap him to a chair to get him to play something and quit giggling like a schoolgirl.

Enjoy!!

Time:  22:30 local.... I've been unable to connect to Chordie for a tad over 24 hours!  Whew, almost went into withdrawals.

Wonder if that net neutrality ruling might have a little to do with it..... kind of like "if you don't pay the toll, you will be forced into the slllooooowwwww lane of the internet super-highway". Sneak preview of things to come?

Pretty sure it's not just me.... I pay a premium for the extra bandwidth, but have to in order to support our client's servers.  Come to think of it, maybe it was just me.... bolstered the security last week and might have tweaked the firewall a bit tight.

Darn! another thing to add to my to-do list for the morning...

Man Russell, when you said that you had to strip it after the "accident".... I cringed.  Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a good chemical stripper, it's just that the slightest residue (and the wood can absorb stuff that is tough to get out) will raise havoc with your coatings.  I've literally scrubbed things with acetone and mineral spirits, and the best thing I found is lots of good hot water and soap.  You know, just the kind of cleaner that can do nasty things to wood if left too wet for too long. Lots of drying time and then a good sanding and then some kind of sealer.  I used to use RM HP100 for a sealer because it would go over darn near anything including silicone, and was a fast dry waterborne product. Not for anything except solid colors though because it ain't clear.

Satin should look really good, and seems trendy these days in guitar finishes. Looking forward to seeing the finished axe... and of course hearing your results.

Not the past couple of days, but last night there was no connecting.  Just assumed heavy traffic causing a chokepoint somewhere, or a power failure at one of the servers.  Seems fine today.

We didn't forget... but it is really sad that the Hawk's are being punished for dominating at home last year by getting almost no home games televised this next season, and few of the road games either.

Good decision Amy, as for the preamp.... Naaaah, you won't need one.  Phantom power is already provided IF you get a mic that needs it, which most vocal mics don't.  As for the pickup, I'll bet the hubster and you can figure that out, the only "technical" part is the drilling out of the strap pin hole which should be done with a REALLY really sharp brad point bit which can cut the veneer cleanly with care.  The rest is common sense and reading the instructions.

Well there ya go Jerome.... steelheadin' with a fly rod!  Used to fish the Alsea and Siletz rivers during the runs on flies.... had a good friend (now dead of old age) that could tie the sweetest mosquito on a #22 hook. Don't laugh like I did the first time he brought a 34" fish home with one of those teeny things.  The man had talent.  Me I spend most of my time un-hooking my ears or shoulder or neck or shirt or just about any vine maple bush within 300 yards!

Effects are good, but cumbersome to set and retrieve quickly.  The FCB1010 midi controller cures that but requires a bit of study & practice to set up.  Otherwise good amps although they do get a lemon once in awhile so fiddle with it and take advantage of that easy exchange policy and generous warranty if you are unfortunate in that respect.

I agree Jerome!  Behringer is good stuff, I think they are still using Bulgara speakers in most of their equipment and those things are TOUGH.  Excellent frequency response and can rattle the windows clear across town without ripping their own guts out.  Some things on them are plastic when metal would be better, but if you don't abuse your gear, it'll last.

Hi Amy,  Thanks for the consideration.  Took a look at that Behringer monitor, and have a concern.  First you should know that Behringer stuff is really good for the $$... so I would consider them for a source brand.  The model you indicated is lacking in one respect, it does not have a 1/4 TS connector or pass through for your guitar, only XLR for microphones.  That may not be a problem for on stage as your tech can send you a return from the mixing board, but at home and in use for your own little projects, no instrument input could be interesting.  I do have a 1/4 TS to XLR adapter that I put together that gets by that so there is a work-around, but it is another thing to fail or get misplaced, or go into hiding when not in use.

On the UP-side, 150 Watts is a lot of punch and you sure would not lack for power outbound to other speakers that you might add later.  No dedicated amplifier needed!  It seems that Behringer has a tendency to put RCA inputs in most of their stuff, which is nice for feeding backing tracks and other media into the stream.

Good Hunting;
Doug

Correction:  I misspoke... the inputs are all XLR/TRS so Will accept standard 1/4" cables without adapters.  Sweetwater lists them at $199 which is a pretty good price IMO.  Compare to the Roland Cube at around $699...no contest.

Yeah Beamer, you can go crazy buying mics.  I've got seven of them and each one has it's own personality and specific use.
A pair of Akai cartoids for mostly miking amps and cabinets, a pair of Shur SM58s one wired and one wireless, a technica and an AKG, and the big MXL for studio work.  That's what I've pared it down to.  The 4X12 cab and Marshall head went away, replaced by a nice little 2X12 combo. Still packing the old Fender tube amp (yeah I kinda like the sound) for close in work and rehearsals. Five channel mixer with effects, monitor speakers and PA, Harmony G vocal synthesizer, Midi control board, and all the wiring, stands, guitars, etc..

I'm still working on reducing that load though... getting too old and weak to move all that in and out of the van. Crap I'm winded from just typing that, much less hauling it.

I guess there is a moral... shop wisely, spend carefully, more stuff don't make you better.... only practice will.

Hi Amy,  Lets see if I can confuse you a little more. All good and valuable info above.... so well worth considering.  I'm thinking I'm a lot like you, kind of a minimalist who really likes the tone and sound of the instrument you own.  For my money, and I have installed a few of these with good results, K&K under bridge pickups are it.  Doesn't change the sound of the guitar, are fairly inexpensive, totally passive (no battery to change or have stuck inside the guitar), fairly easy to remove without leaving holes or other evidence.

Basically three little microphones mounted underneath the bridge that transport the vibrations out to whatever amp/effects hardware en-route to the PA. No dials no twiddling or fiddling, everything happens at the mixer unless you insert something in the chain.

As for a vocal mic, you will want to try as many as you can (the same for your guitar for that matter). Brands and models will vary in frequency response and be stronger in some frequency ranges (a good thing if you need a little push in some areas and less in others).  A good vocal mic that fits your voice can really let you get the best you have out there and even out the rough spots.  Some filtering is done at the soundboard, but you have some control of what gets there by having a personal mic.

Either way, it sounds like a fun way to spend your shopping weekend!

Good read.  Guess that explains why my playing gets better when I'm half ripped, (not that it's a good reason to fall off the wagon)..... but then again maybe it just seems so.  Others have said things to that effect, but there might be something to that "overthinking" it hindering the expression of artistic nuance.

I've got some meds that do that, and have found myself composing some cool stuff and not having much of a memory of it the next day. If I could just concentrate enough to score it when it happens!!!!

Be sure and ask about the Sam's Club Discount (if it applies).  I'm guessing that they are going to be selling for some underwriter like Farmer's or Allstate, but I'd read the fine print anyway.

Know what you mean.  Used to play with a buddy who happens to be left handed... kinda like looking in a mirror when jamming. anyway Medical issues put our music nights on the back burner for a couple of years now.  Sat in for rehearsals for another friend who has a band locally, and makes a living at it. So I'm available if there's a gig scheduling conflict that needs filled.  But it is nicer and helps your skills progress with someone else to make music with other than your recorder or a backing track.

Have Fun!

Back in the good old days, I had a little piece of software that would DESTROY hard drives.... Would really like to send a copy back to each and every one of the those spam-holes.  Sadly it resides on a 5.25" floppy somewhere in the archives, and is subject to some sort of legal prosecution (as if it wasn't then?).

I'm thinking that just copying their postings and forwarding it to the company that they are representing with some sort of "Thanks to your Distasteful Marketing Practices, our 465 thousand members WILL NOT be doing ANY business with you!"
might get their attention over time.

Good new about the Cancer!  That is ALWAYS a good thing.  The sun exposure drug reaction thing is however a miserable side effect.  I too take drugs that have those cautions, and have to be careful when outdoors.  Damn hard to do living up here where we only get about 3 months of sunny weather between rainy seasons and like to be out enjoying it.

Best advice I can give is limit your exposure and by all means use that SPF 9000!

Sorry for the confusion guys,  I was referring to the "chamber reference A"  the one used to tune orchestras rather than your individual instrument.  If you've heard that sustained note that large ensemble groups play before a concert... that one I understand is 445.  Still an A but slightly sharp for some reason that I don't get a handle on.  Maybe to compensate for all those Bb and Fb horns?????

Who Knows?

Not exactly the image I think they are trying to promote in the video though.

Awww c'mon Russell.... You for sure should know that Buck Rogers did that all the time back in the 50s!

But yeah you are right it is pretty cool.  I read some of the comments, and noticed the one about the "waste of fuel".  Guess I'll have to find out what they are using fuel-wise... I seem to remember some early Gemini flights fueled with Hydrogen and Oxygen (in liquid form) and later Red Fulmic Acid and LOX.  Non-fossil fuels with plenty of punch, and byproducts really bad for the environment.... stuff like heat and WATER VAPOR!  Gasp!

Take Care;
Doug

OK, did my homework.  Something called RP-1 and LOX is the new fuel.... kinda really pure Kerosene so still a "fossil-fuel" but safer than Alcohol, Methane, etc..  Supposedly burns really clean (even compared to JP-6 Jet Fuel) with less CO and CO2 emissions and fewer PPM of carbon ash.  Personally I was rooting for Hydrogen and LOX, but it just doesn't measure up in terms of thrust/Lbs of fuel.  Guess we'll just have to keep working on that ion hyper-drive concept.

Are you sure you can't remember where you stashed that crate of di-lithium crystals?

I found that interesting also... it seems to indicate that there is more going on at the nut/string intersection besides a simple slot to "guide the string".  There is also a bit of friction there, especially on the wound strings that can allow a bit of imbalance of tension on either side when tuning. I expect it helps equalize that tension so your tuning does not "creep" when you begin playing.  I do know that the practice is common in violin tuning.  Good video though!

Now if someone could just explain in simple terms why the "Referance A" note is not 440 anymore and changed to 445?
Has evolution changed our hearing (for the better) in the last couple hundred years?

A Belated Happy Tax Day! to all,

Done in a timely manner thanks to the wonderful interweb.... just waiting for the eagle to regurgitate what little extra we fed it this past year.  That bird has no sense of humor about going hungry.... many years ago I made the mistake of "underwitholding",  got hit with $81k in penalties and interest for the error.  Needless to say I am VERY VERY precise in my accounting.

Greetings,

For lyrics give letssingit.com a try.... for the chords or sheet music, sorry I couldn't find them either. Listened to the tune on you-tube and was unable to hear enough of the tune to reason out the chords, but better ears might be more helpful.

Good Luck;
