This is an interesting link, it's written very accurate, for upgrading your guitar.
Strings --> Paint --> Changing neck --> changing pick-ups, with silent coils...
It creates also the opportunity to sell a SQUIER as a FENDER = CHEATING people. If I buy a 1000$ Fender, I am not going to analyse my guitar.

Well Tennessee, you have a point there. You see how I learned again something.
PRS aren't they generally speaking also attached with screwed necks?

An important opinion: Screwed-in necks, like FENDERS: If you buy a squier, this fact allows you to remove the "NECK" and change it by an USA made Fender neck = cheating. I am 10% convinced that "malafide"persons, sell it like a Fender, lower in price, and except of some of us, who will check everything, and worse changed coils by Fender's newest noiseless coils?

Comment: A few of these drummers were former session drummers.
Arguably the greatest session drummer of all time, is the great Hal Blaine. The list of number one songs that he's played on is almost stupid.
Wasn't n° 20 JEFF PORCARO, a session drummer too? I think that the founders of TOTO were all session musicians. Dazzling artists, and described as "collectively the best musicians on the planet"
GUITAR: STEVE LUKATHER isn't he one of the best guitar players on the planet?

DID YOU KNOW THAT "TOTO" in Japan, is the name of Japan's largest toilet manufacturer?
I adore some of the info found on the internet.  big_smile   smile

I found a nice list, check it out GOOGLE TOP 10 DRUMMERS. And, voil , a list. I take the ACTUAL TOP 20, so there are still 80 to go. I hope to posted another nice topic, sorry, I might maybe the "topic-king", I just love writing topics.
REASONS
You start knowing people better and better, and I am a guy who loves to read BETWEEN the lines, this goes for me too: (I have almost NO social life, so I try and found my social life here.)
1. Neil Peart (Rush)
  2. John Bonham* (Led Zeppelin)
  3. Carl Palmer (ELP)
  4. Keith Moon* (The Who)
  5. Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa)
  6. Ginger Baker (Cream)
  7. Hal Blaine (Session man)
  8. Danny Carey (Tool)
  9. Bill Bruford (Yes, King Crimson)
10. Earl Palmer (Session man)
11. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)
12. Dave Lombardo (Slayer)
13. Benny Benjamin* (Funk Brothers)
14. Ian Paice (Deep Purple)
15. Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge)
16. Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osbourne)
17. Stewart Copeland (The Police)
18. Bernard Purdie (Session)
19. Vinnie Colaiuta (Zappa)
20. Jeff Porcaro* (Toto) .
There are some REALLY GREAT names. There are still 80 "greatest drummers" left, which is UNFAIR. Imagine 100, 20 looks already more than enough. MY OPINION:
I agree with at least 15 drummers, NO MATTER HOW THEY ARE RANKED and the other 5,          I don't know them. YOUR OPINION: you can "google" and find the 75 other ranked drummers.

100£ = 200$, I will try to give you some brands, having cheaper but decent models. My search is now on www.zzounds.com, an online store, and I add customers opinions.
- Yamaha FG700S Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar: $199.95, and 8/10 in ratings
- Ibanez SGT120 Sage Series Acoustic Guitar: 149-159$, ratings: 8/10
- Alvarez RD8 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar 199.95$ 1 rating 9/10
- Epiphone DR100 Acoustic Guitar: 119.95$ 7/10
- Jasmine by Takamine S35 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar: 119.95$ 78 ratings: 8/10 4 comments 10/10, and as far as I am, my favourite.
1) YOU CAN TRY YOUTUBE, and search one of these, there is a possibility to see and hear them
2) Websites www.musiciansfriend.com   www.music123.com and of course EBAY.
I Hope this ws helpful

This an intriguing question, and I beg for an answer.
- We all know what a guitar is even neck included. We also talk and write about bodies, pick-ups, strings, brands, but I don't see often a question about a guitar neck.
QUESTION
- How much is the importance of a neck on a guitar? I know some necks are glued, others not, so I try to compare 1 brand, like Fender.
Some models use ROSEWOOD, others MAPLE: I think that a guitar neck is under-rated, but does the wood, used for a fretboard and the neck are IMPORTANT for the SOUND???

I looked again, and there are as much opinions as there are people.
More than once you find an artist, let' say SANTANA, in 2 categories.
- good guitar player
- bad guitar player.
I THINK IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO BE OBJECTIVE.
A test which should be nice, let people 70-80 years old listen to a dozen musicians, and ask them after the test, who they hated most, and than you reverse the results   smile  big_smile

So Leo's Fender plant was in 1965 a CBS sivision.
Leo Fender started again with Fullerton G&L; what about this brand? And first of all, was it legal to "rebuild" fender-ish guitars? Because he sold fender in 1965.
- Who has experience with these guitars?
- Musicman guitars: is/was Leo Fender also involved in this brands?

The only fact I found is "a Fender" keeps his value, in stead of a G&L, but what about models, versatilty?

REALLY AMAZING: SRV on a 12-string acoustic.
Is he playing a 12-string GUILD, it doesn't matter, I found this by coincidence, if you look for SRV, you will see him almost always playing electric, so I THOUGHT: SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE and I do hope you'll love it

I don't know if "modification" is a correct word.
Why a topic about modification?
- I read quit often that a guitar player changes his "new guitar"
- It is often used by musicians who own a Mexican FENDER Stratocaster.
TRUSSROD: I surf a lot on the internet, and on an online music store like:
www.musiciansfriend.com
www.zzounds.com
www.music123.com
I love to read the opinions of customers. One of the most discussed items is the US strat versus the Mexican strat. I did read more than once that people buying a Mexican strat, start trying to make an US strat, they discuss about adjusting trussrods, (WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CHANGING, ADJUSTING THIS TRUSSROD?), also since Fender started to use "silent coils", a lot of buyers, replace the original coils by "silent coils".
In fact most buyers of a Mexican Stratocaster, value 400$, are always discussing with people having a US stratocaster, price 1200$, that they MAKE FROM THEIR MEXICAN STRATOCASTER, an US stratocaster, buy changing thinks, like coils, and claiming that they have now an US stratocaster, for 600$ just by "modifications"
WHAT IS THE PHILOSOPHY, THE PURPOSE AND ARE THEY FOLLOWING THE RIGHT TRACK?
They claim and argue that their MIM stratocaster is now identical as a MIA stratocaster, but for half the price?

Strange topic, but interesting a MUSIC

- WAR, battles accompanied with music, especially drums Can you see soldiers fighting backed up by music? It sounds funny, but I don't think it was at that time
- BANNED MUSIC & BANDS some big bands having a huge hit were banned, and no airplay, like
- Status Quo: I'm in the army now
- Billy Joel:Only The Good Die Young
- Arthur Brown: WAR
And a lot more, "so they say" because of 9/11.

I am aware of the fact that the USA has the record of having religions. So I respect every religion and I don't wan to offend or criticise RELIGIONS.
- What I like to know is the top 5 of CHURCHES
- SONGS BANNED because of some lyrics. See the DOORS with LIGHT MY FIRE, where they were not allowed to sing ...much higher. Jose Feliciano, had a huge hit with that same song and hiss lyrics are the same. So are there in 2008 different approaches, or is it still as 40 years ago?
So what about today?
- If you listen to rappers like 50 cent, P.Diddy, are these songs broadcasted? Are there radiostations who refuse to play songs, containing some, what's called "EXPLICIT  LYRICS"?
- About some words or phrases THERE IS A DIFFERENT INTERPRETATION, some English words have completely different "meanings" or are "slang"
- How do you "handle" some of the "explicit lyrics", on television or radio, replaced by a beep?
- They used to burn in public some > 1000 albums, Today?

THIS IS A LIST ABOUT RIFFS, GREAT RIFFS, EVEN THE BEST RIFFS.
I will add some comment after posting my list, who was a big time consumer. I worked already months on this list, and putting it in WORD. I found this in a tiny little book in Finland, tiny but amazing facts and I don't agree with some riffs, so instead of giving the list of the 20 riffs from my little book; I will make MY LIST TOO. All these riffs = instant recognition, like SMOKE o, the WATER, from  the first chord you recognise the song.
I REALLY HOPE THAT YOU POST YOUR LIST, 3, 5, 10 IT'S ABOUT YOUR ALL TIME RIFF LIST.
1)  SWEET CHILD O'MINE (gun's and roses)
2)  SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT (Nirwana)
3)  WHOLE LOTTA LOVE (Led Zeppelin)
4)  SMOKE ON THE WATER (Deep Purple)
5)  ENTER SANDMAN (Metallica)
6)  LAYLA (Eric Clapton)
7)  MASTER OFPUPPETS (Metallica)
8)  BACK IN BLACK (AC/DC)
9)  VOODOO CHILD,slight return (JIMI HENDRIX)
10) PARANOID (BLACK SABBATH)
Smells like TEEN spirit: TEEN is the DUTCH WORD for TOE. It's funny, it sounds like "smelling feet"
The list contains 10 more titles, and it won't surprise me to see the same names.
MY LIST (only 5 today)
1) SMOKE ON THE WATER (Deep Purple)
2) SWEET HOME ALABAMA (LYNERD SKYNERD)
3) VOODOO CHILD (JIMI HENDRIX)
4) SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT.
5) SATISFACTION (Rolling Stones)

JESUS, I forgot Pink Floyd (shame on me crazy dia ia iamont). I'M SO GLAD, POSTING this topic.
YOU PROBABLY KNOW ALREADY that I am an USA lover, INCLUDING CANADA.
And very interesting, to see names I never heard of
I FORGOT:
- JACQUES BREL, a brilliant songwriter, probably even  of the best songwriters
He is from my country BELGIUM, of course FRANCE consider him as one  of them They abused us already with FRENCH FRIES, invented HERE
- ERIC CLAPTON
- ELTON JOHN (with BERNIE TAUPIN) without Bernie, worse
- QUEEN, who can forget some of their great songs, like Bohemian Rhapsody, Love of my life
- DAVID BOWIE
- CHIN & CHAPMAN, they were a song composing COMPUTER and played a big role in the bubblegum, glim, glam rockers, like Marc Bolan, even the Stones didn't escape this style If you should see them in the early Seventies, JAGGER with make-up, this was also an "era of telling that you were BISEXUAL: see BOWIE in the early 70-ties, and compare him today versus that period He seems to be a happy married man, dressed in fancy costumes, Armani, Hugo Boss (DID YOU KNOW HAT BOSS designed the uniforms of the German Officers, who were really beautiful compared to other army costumes)

Thanks Russell, it is a strange design, a wooden guitar with a kind of metal on the top.
- WHEN IS THIS INSTRUMENT STILL USED?
- What about strumming?

About Dr Feelgood's Down at the Doctors, no problem to find lyrics.
Do you play since long? You can see and hear Dr FEELGOOD on youtube, and the reason of asking this is, when you play a lot, it is not so difficult to play-a-long.
But I keep searching
a link: http://www.all-good-tabs.com/lyrics-ban … 24170.html

CORRECTION.
IT'S NOT BECAUSE A BAND OR A PERFORMER IS LISTED AS OVER-RATED or UNDER-RATED, THAT I DON'T LIKE THE BAND. Like Jimi Hendrix, I love that guy AND he is A MODEL-EXAMPLE how thin the line is between A MUSICIAN and A SUPER HERO.
JIMI HENDRIX is considered one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in rock music history. He learned by practising almost constantly, watching others play, through tips from more experienced players and listening to records. One of his first bands were THE VELVETONES, and I believe his first electric guitar was a SILVERTONE DANELECTRO.After his military career he played in a band The King Kasuals", playing mainly in low-paying gigs. He won a first price and earned a spot as the new guitarist for the Isley Brothers' band. Later he was also hired by little Richard and in 1965 CURTIS KNIGHT, but in fact it all started in 1966, in London, thanks to CHAS CHANDLER and after successful gigs the word of Hendrix spread through the London music community. His showmanship and virtuosity made instant fans of reigning guitar heroes Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, as well as members of The Beatles and The Who, whose managers signed Hendrix to their new record label, Track Records.
THIS IS WHY I WROTE ABOUT THE THIN LINE BETWEEN A VERY GOOD GUITAR PLAYER and a GUITAR HERO. And yes, I placed him maybe in the wrong list, and I WOULD Love to see him playing in stead of seeing him dying. VICTIM OF HIS SUCCESS? More than PROBABLY.

Cytania, I am struggling with the same problem. Gibson keeps it reasonable, but Fender? If you enter a music store, and you start counting all the stratocasters, Mexican excluded, I am lost in the same forest.
Almost every guitar player has his own signature model, and in different colours.
You can see 5 identical Fenders AT FIRST SIGHT, and 5 different prices.
Why is that Fender sold for 1250$, another for 1325$, or 1400$?
I AM AFRAID THAT HAVING SO MANY MODELS IS TOO MUCH, OVEREXPOSURE, and this leads to a ridiculous situation, the sales man is telling you a lot, and finally you walk out of the store with a Gibson. WHERE IS THE LIMIT? I want to know how many different Fenders there are on the market, 50? 100? mexican fenders included.

Somewhere in a post, I read that on NAMM 2008, they spotted an acoustic PRS.
I am a huge PRS freak, living in a tiny country with 3 official languages, and capital of Europe.
About guitars: I discovered PRS back in 1995, VERY expensive, twice the price of a Gibson LP Standard.
PROBLEM: I buyed one quit cheap, by trading my Gibson LP Studio (I had to tune this guitar every 10 minutes, resulting in hate), which I was able to buy from a friend, as supervisor for customs at the airport, a little but visible scratch, and no longer 100% for a guitar store. (500$). I tested some guitars one year before, with 2 friends, and all 3 of us placed PRS on number one. As told, the price was 6000$ back then. So as told I traded my LP Studio (receiving 1000$) for a 6 months old PERFECT PRS custom 24, one of the best choices. I AM SINCE, A PRS ADDICT.

- IS IT TRUE THAT PRS PRODUCED A LINE OF ACOUSTIC GUITARS?
- IF SO, WHAT WOOD DID THEY USE? AND IS THERE A FELLOW CHORDIAN WHO WAS ABLE TO HOLD ONE AND PLAY?
- WHAT ABOUT AVAILABILITY AND PRICE?
I should be really happy and grateful.

If you are married, a nice list:
- DARLING BE HOME SOON (John Sebastian)
-WHOLE STOP THE RAIN (a reason to stay longer)
- If you play tomorrow yesterday, it is today.
No serious, nice to greet you. I try to give some tips too.
If you play in front of an older audience, BEATLES, STONES, DYLAN, CCR it can't go wrong.
One of my favourite songs is still KNOCKIN'ON HEAVEN'S DOOR. This is a song from my all time FAVOURITE DYLAN ALBUM: PATT GARETT & BILLY THE KID. Bob has a role in that movie too. The way this album is composed is unbelievable. He has a "Title Song", a main theme, and starting from that theme, he wrote songs, SAME CHORDS, similar melody, but yet different.

KEN
I don't know if my device is the same as yours.
I have since 18 months a KORG PANDORA TONEWORKS PX4D, at least that device looks very similar. It is an amazing piece, size of a "cigarette box" with I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH EFFECTS.
I love to use it with my electric guitar, and follow the rhythm. I also use it almost always in combination with my ACOUSTIC amp (Marshall AS100D), they told me in the Music Store, that Albert King was there some weeks ago, and he seems to use always an ACOUSTIC amp. But I know you can plug in this Pandora, a CD, MP3, but can you also RECORD?

I believe most of us know this story.
When the Gibson plant left KALAMAZOO, their worker's could move with Gibson (now in Nashvile and Memphis), some of them collected money and started building guitars "in the tradition of the Gibson mentality.
So these people staid and started building "HERITAGE".
- Are these guitars real good?
- Did they have problems with Gibson, like law suits?

NO PIX, I wrote them a mail 2 years ago about the fact when they would start to produce acoustic guitars. Answer: they didn't start with an acoustic line, but they were thinking about an ACOUSTIC PRS.
I followed the link, and there are splendid models, AT FIRST SIGHT. Already having a lot of guitars and being a PRS-O-HOLIC, I would buy one. I believe it will still take a year before they arrive here. If I should buy one, I would probably ask one of the US chordians, to buy one and send it to me, after paying everything of course, because a lot of them don't ship to Europe, and here an example: price in Europe = 5000€ = 7400$
In the states: 5000$ = 3400€, a difference of 1600€ = worth to buy and ship it to Belgium. I even won't hesitate, IF I should have the money.
- Acoustic PRS
- Difference $ versus €

First of all, I know that some bands or performers get a lot of money to sign a contract.
- Some amounts of $$ are so high, and the musicians or performers have to deliver a certain amount of albums.
- My opinion is that because of that contract you start more and more writing songs.
- A band is as good as his latest album. Some bands even get money to leave their record company, like the sexpistols.
- If you have a serious contract, WILL THE ESSENCE OF YOUR SONGS stay? You come from a free band to an-in-jail-band, because of the MUST DELIVER X ALBUMS.
If you have a contract as band, what about the partitioning of money? NOT SPEAKING ABOUT TOURS.
EXAMPLE A BAND, just signed a contract: WHO GETS WHAT, starting with:
- % received, and going in the artists pocket, and about MELODY, LYRICS, PERFORMERS.
WHAT IS on 100.000$ the money you get as artist/band (, or the% you get.)
- RECORD COMPANY = ?? $$$
- MELODY= ?? $$$
- LYRICS = ?? $$$
- ARRANGEMENTS, PRODUCER = ?? $$$
- MANAGER= ?? $$$
This topic is easy and difficult and probably a lot more different for the real big bands. The
royalty, which itself has a very complex formula by which it is calculated
IN FACT THE PURPOSE OF THIS TOPIC IS TO KNOW MORE ABOUT "ROYALTIES" ALSO, IT CAN BE USEFUL TO KNOW WHAT YOUR SHARE WOULD BE
