Brian - just listened to Caffeine - definitely a blues song that makes ya smile.
maybe another verse for ya smile

" Drowsy eyes so very tired but the need to write is here.
with no caffeine that I lack, not one word will appear.
no caffeine in my coffee, a song I wouldn't want to hear
but if it ever happens,  I might as well have some beer! smile

Graham

I am honored and humbled that you would do a cover of my song. Any changes you made are fine with me !
As you and everyone else on chordie knows - I am just and old coot that can barely play and definitely can't sing for crap - but I do love writing songs.
When guys like you take your valuable time to record my songs, I feel so grateful !  I so appreciate it.  I played it a  bit slower - more like a ballad - but that's because i am slow to change chords smile
Again, thank you so much Graham.

If I had some kind of magic, I would love to visit with all my friends from a far  face to face. I think it would be awesome if some night when you and your band was performing I could come up and shake your hand and introduce myself !  The people here on chordie are so cool  and friendly.
It is still my go to place, but it is a shame so many of the past contributors have stopped visiting the forum. I'm sure you can remember when they used to to even do a chordie fest - where members of  chordie would get together in person. So many in the USA had kind of faded away from chordie, I wish it could pick up again.

anyway - Graham      Thanks again !

Jim

ps

BTW - I loved how you recorded it !

The Life I Left Behind By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[G]Packed my bags at seventeen, [D]small town dreams on my mind

[C]on the road to find myself, and [G] leave everything I had behind

[G]I swore I’d never turn around, after [D]mama said “ go chase your dream”

but the [C]way she said goodbye, it felt like [G] she was playing make believe

Verse 2

.

[G] city streets were feeling cold, [D] filled with people, I didn't know

[C]I could see their faces, but they never [G] stop and say hello

[G] Every step felt uncertain, [D] wondered how long I’d have to wait

[C] headed for the future, but my [G] heart‘s in another place

.

Chorus

.

.

[C] There ain't no place like home, no [G] arms to hold me tight

[C] There's no porch light burning in the [G] middle of the night

[C] I keep on thinking that there's [G] something more to find

[D] But I always end up prayin’ for [C] the life I left [G]behind.

.

Verse 3

.

[G] So there I was, in that place [D] though It wouldn't be for long

[C] money was running low, and[G] everything just felt so wrong

[G] I was looking for an answer, [D] but the truth was clear, clear to see

[C] The only place that’s meant for me is [G] right where I used to be

.

Chorus

.

[C] There ain't no place like home, no [G] arms to hold me tight

[C]There's no front porch light burning in the [G] middle of the night

[C] I keep on thinking that there's [G] something more to find

[D] But I always end up prayin’ for [C] the life I left [G]behind.

.

Outgo..

.

[C] There ain't no place like home, no [G]arms to hold me tight.

[C] There's no porch light burning in the [G] middle of the night.

[C]spent time chasing fool's gold[G] but home never left my mind

[D] a kid with a dream in his pocket, [C] a past he couldn’t leave be[G]hind.

slow

.

yeah, just[D] a kid with a dream in his pocket, [C] a past he couldn’t leave be[G]hind.

If 10,000 songwriters around the world all ask AI for lyrics about a topic - and they all get similar or identical responses - it seems the originality by composers and lyricists will wane - quite agree with Jan's assessment

Brian, Nicely done. I felt like I was sitting in a tiki bar in Hawaii listening to your song - had a uke sound to it. Jim

Richard,   Nicely performed.  I had never heard  of that song, read it was almost not released.  ( I also read it's about either Heroin or a girl- both can be pleasurable and deadly smile ) Thanks for sharing.  JIm

I changed the lyrics took out verse 4 and the bridge...   new chords.
It happened b/c I was playing it on my Rickenbacker and all of a sudden it just came out this way - I liked it so much better.

lonesome heart and empty sky By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1:

[Am] He was standing by the road, a cigarette in his hand

[E] Suitcase laying by his feet, he’d be[Am]come a traveling man

[Am] had no wife, no children, just blowin' in the breeze

A [E] life without meaning, he was [Am]fading like autumn leaves

Verse 2:

.

[Am] once, she was a sweet lovin' girl, with silky golden hair

With a [E] smile that could take away [Am] all his worldly cares

but [Am] as he held her tremblin' hand, the coldness broke his will

and [E]when she finally left this world, it seemed [Am] all time stood still

.

________________________________________

Chorus

[Dm ] So he pours rotgut [Am]whiskey, as his [Dm] anger begins to [Am]grow

Always [D] tryin’ to drown those [Am]memories and [E]what he can't let [Am]go.

[Dm] He walks every [Am]lonely road where [Dm]no one hears him [Am] cry

There’s [Dm] just the ache of a[Am] lonesome heart [E]and an empty [Am] sky .

.

Verse 3:

.

[Am]They buried her in April, he couldn’t bear to say goodbye

On his [E] knees he looked upward, and asked [Am] God to tell him why

[Am] anger was burning up his heart, yet he felt so damn cold

he [E] was all alone and broken, so he [Am] headed for the open road

.

Welcome to the East Beamer and Pepper !

Nice to hear from you Scott !

Jim

Ok Jan I think I used about 10 of the words - a  few I just could not find a way to insert them. sad

It's a little long,  tragic story.  I could not help but think if some young man lost their new bride in the recent fires, plane crashes or some other circumstance. It's pretty much written as i thought a man might feel like if it happened.

I'm going to post it songwriting as well =- hope that's ok

Graham

That was a good cover.  I had no idea who Robin Trower was - had to look him up.Pretty sad song from my perspective.

I have tried to use the trio, but I can't get it to work for me (mostly bc I suck at guitar) smile

I thought the distortion was a bit much - hard to hear your voice.
Thanks for sharing though - found someone new to give a hoot to.

It was a snow day here today so not much to do but stay inside - so I picked up my Taylor and started playing around. I was thinking about my favorite place - Topsail Beach, North Carolina... and the phrase " Beach, Please"  pop in my head and it made me laugh.  Well as you can tell by the title that I decided I was going to write a humorous song about a boy/girl relation using the title's play on words. smile   However as I got to writing it somehow morphed into a sadder version, but still had that little element of word humor in a sad love relationship.   Let me know what you think
I'm sure it needs some work yet but here it is....

Beach, Please By Jim Kenyon

Verse 1

.

[G] We sat in silence, but our [C]glances were [G] loud,

[Em] crying under an azure [D] sky painted with [C] clouds.

[G] I reached out to hold him, [C] but he pulled a[G]way,

I knew [D] there were words he[C] didn’t know how to [G] say

.

So I asked him…

.

Pre-Chorus

.

Is there [C] someplace that you’d rather [G] go ?

Is there a [C] place that we can put your mind at [G] ease ?

Then he[C] told me exactly where he wanted to [G] go

A [D] place where he used to [C] follow all his [G] dreams

.

Chorus

He looked at me and said……

.

[Em] Beach, please … because every time I [C] reach for your [G] hand,

[Em] Beach, please...‘cause You slip away just [C] like the shifting [G] sand.

[Em] Beach, please….’cause like the [C] tide, you come and [G] go

[D]Beach, please… ‘cause you leave me drowning in [C]what I’ll never [G] know.

.

Verse 2

.

[G]He finally said, "Love’s just [C] like the ocean’s [G] breeze,

[Em]It comes and goes, then[D] vanishes into the [D] trees."

[G] He said, some things are just [C] meant to drift a[G]way

And I [D] was searching for the words[C] that could make him [G] stay

.

So I asked him…

.

Pre-Chorus

.

Is there [C] someplace that you’d rather [G] go ?

Is there a [C] place that we can put your mind at [G] ease ?

Then he[C] told me exactly where he wanted to [G] go

A [D] place where he used to [C] follow all his [G] dreams

.

Chorus

.

He looked at me and said……

.

[Em]Beach, please … because every time I [C] reach for your [G] hand,

[Em]beach, please... ‘cause You slip away just [C] like the shifting [G] sand.

[Em] Beach, please….’cause like the [C] tide, you come and [G] go

[D] Beach, please… ‘cause you leave me drowning in [C] what I’ll never [G] know.

.

Verse 3

.

[G] He said I was like those ships [C] sailing out on the [G] sea

[Em] That there was no harbor that [D] ever could anchor[C] me

[G] His eyes had a cold stare [C] as he gazed from the [G] shore

And I [D] wondered if we can [D] find that place we were [G] before

So I asked him…

Pre-Chorus

.

Is there [C] someplace that you’d rather [G] go ?

Is there a [C] place that we can put your mind at [G] ease ?

Then he[C] told me exactly where he wanted to [G] go

A [D] place where he used to [C] follow all his [G] dreams

Chorus

.

He looked at me and said……

[Em]Beach, please … because every time I [C] reach for your [G] hand,

[Em]Beach, please...‘cause You slipaway just [C] like the shifting [G] sand.

[Em]Beach ,Please….’cause like the [C] tide, you come and [G]go

[D]Beach, please… ‘cause you leave me drowning in [C] what I’ll never [G] know.

Song about someone who is scared to fully commit to falling in love (maybe for the first time, or again).

Scared By Jim Kenyon

Scared

Verse 1

[C]There’s all kinds of love [F] all around this [C]world

[C]Some say a perfect [F] love is hard to [C]find

So [Am]I been hoping that [F] love will find me some[C]day

And [G] my heart can find a [F] way to make yours [C] mine

.

Verse 2

.

[C] I don’t how you can [F]always make me [C] smile

[C] how your eyes [F] shine like sunshine upon the [C] sea

and [Am] when I’m near you, I [F] never wish for no[C]thing,

'cause [G]I got everything I need [F]right here with [C]me

.

Chorus

.

but [F] I’m still scared that my heart will get [C]broken

and [F] yet so scared of the thought of losing [C] you

ooh, I'm [F] scared of these feelings I can’t [C] control

and [G]scared to let me [F] love like I've always wanted [C] to

yeah, I'm [G] scared to whisper [F] that I’m in love with [C] you

.

Verse 3

.

[C]When we’re together you [F] take my breath [C] away

[C]My pulse starts rising the [F]moment you are [C] near

and [Am] you got me tremblin’ [G] at your slightest [C] touch

you’re [G] the dream I've been [F] chasin’ all these [C] years

.

Chorus

.

but [F] I’m still scared that my heart will get [C] broken

and [F] yet so scared of the thought of losing [C] you

ooh, I'm [F] scared of these feelings I can’t [C] control

and [G] scared to let me [F] love like I've always wanted [C] to

yeah, I'm [G] scared to whisper [F] that I’m in love with [C] you
