Grah1, it certainly gives it a really good sound.

Such a fun old song, brought back memories.  Well done.

TIGLJK, really good lyrics.  Love that line "no turning back, walking that last mile" and "truth and lies walking side by side", "love don't live where secrets hide", really good lines.   I had a listen as well, make sure to put the link to it here as well from SoundCloud.  Well done.

Nicely performed neophytte, you definitely have the Blues touch, a natural.  Extra special as written by yourself and the harmonica a bonus.  I liked this one.

TIGLJK, just another comment on Earles performance, I went on and listened to heaps of his music last night and really like his style and stuff.  What a talented guy, all the sadder to hear he is now gone from this world.  He was pretty open about his drug and drink issues, laughing it off at times, talked about the cost of the drugs, cocaine he was on etc  Made me feel really sad, but wow an amazing talented guy.

easybeat, good attempt at Blues, it also sounded a little bit jazzy in places, well at least to my ear with the guitar.  Love the whole guitar playing once again.  The vocals, sorry to say didn't quite sound Blues to me, maybe not the right style for you, but then, who am I to say, just think I have heard other vocal styles that suit you better.  Blues is hard to sing, hence I haven't tried them myself, I don't think I even could sing Blues if I tried.  Come to think of it, I can`t play Blues either.  I have been trying the basics on ukulele and oh my gosh, talk about slow and painful lol.  I am trying not to strum them and to pick the strings instead, don`t think I am patient enough, so all that to say, you have totally outdone me in all areas, so kudos to you.

Grah1, good performance, I didn't know that song though I must admit.  Maybe because I am not a punk rock fan, thought this one says its folk, punk.   I checked it out online after listening to your cover.  One another note, as I am not really a guitarist, what is the white thing in the middle of your guitar over the hole part of the guitar?  I noticed that Justin Townes Earle (who TIGLJK) introduced to me this month in Blues, has one on his guitar too.

TIGLJK, I hadn`t heard of him before nor this song, but WOW, that was great.  One I have downloaded to and will listen to again and again.  How sad, so young, RIP sad

neophytte, LOVED IT!!!  that was awesome to watch, very impressive.  Why aren't you playing BLUES more often?

Grah1, good to hear your interpretation of TIG`s song.  Completely different to how I thought it would go in my head, but that is the beauty of songs, we all hear and see things differently.  You covered it well and great to see you covering someone else's original music, awesome smile

TIGLJK, I love this one, the lyrics are great.  Agree with you re when lots of people were on Chordie and interacted with each other, it was so much better then.  Hopefully it will again some day.

I was trying to think of some of my favorite folk artists and songs.   Honestly, the list is way too big.  So, to name just a few of them (and believe me there are lots I like), I thought of Cat Stephens, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Young (not all like his music I know), there are some awesome Irish Folk Songs too by different artists.  The Corrs are an Irish group, who do Folk-pop stuff that I like as well.

This month for APRIL`S FSOTM, we are looking for any BLUES SONGS or BLUES INSTRUMENTAL that you would like to perform and enter.

easybeat, yep feel free to put up back stories to a song you like in the Suggestions and Discussion each month.  I was really meaning, pick a genre.  Aiming to put up a different genre each month for a while and see how it goes.

Phill, wow, looking forward to hearing this one.  Lyrics tell the story, really well written.

neophytte,  That was really good.  Sung well, played well, very good performance.  You did yourself proud with this one.

Good chart there neophytte.

easybeat, I will be closing this one tomorrow and starting next months 'Suggestions and Discussion'
so, if you want to suggest one category you would like to go up, let me know before tomorrow.  That is which genre you would like, e.g. folk, rock ....

So, the songs so far mentioned in this thread, I will be putting up tomorrow for next months FSOTM.  So any last minute suggestions?

Grah, you guys performed that one well, great to see your still getting out there and performing.

Grah1 that was a good performance by you and the band.  Looks like you were all enjoying it and having fun.  A few years ago, now by the looks, 11 years to be exact.  Do you guys still play together?

Here is a link to Howling Wolf`s Killing Floor that you mentioned.  A good Blues one, but you know I never really knew what it was about, so I googled it.   This what Wikipedia said the songs about.
Quote:  Howlin' Wolf recorded "Killing Floor" in Chicago in August 1964, which Chess Records released as a single.[2] According to blues guitarist and longtime Wolf associate Hubert Sumlin, the song uses the killing floor – the area of a slaughterhouse where animals are killed – as a metaphor or allegory for male-female relationships: "Down on the killing floor – that means a woman has you down, she went out of her way to try to kill you. She at the peak of doing it, and you got away now ... You know people have wished they was dead – you been treated so bad that sometimes you just say, 'Oh Lord have mercy.' You’d rather be six feet in the ground."[3]

Glad to hear others think Boom Boom Boom is Blues too and not Pop.

Phill, I can't take the credit for the discussion or adding comments, that was neophyttes idea.  Hopefully it will make it more interesting for everyone and it's great to have discussion, comments and everyone putting their views, thoughts down.  I am sure I for one will learn some new things from this.  Also, Phill, I agree, Blazing Saddles was an excellent movie, I think we still have a video copy of it somewhere.  I watched that movie so many times lol

easybeat, this one rolls along nicely and gentle listening, nice one.

I was listening to some John Lee Hooker music and this one, Boom Boom Boom according to Wikipedia came up saying it was Pop whereas I have always thought it was Blues.  What does everyone think?  I loved this song in the Movie Blues Brothers, a great movie.

TIGLK, nice one, lyrics are good.  I would like to hear this one too.  I am away on holiday presently so can't even try to play it.  Hopefully you or someone else can have a go at it.
