when I write I aim for three to 4 mins ,some end up under but not usually over what doe happen though is when we do it live the song can take on a whole new character what was 3 mins can become 6 or what was 4 can end up less. Because sometimes we have to play very long sets in Crete 4-5hrs sometimes with only a short break we do rend to play things twice but the second time it always seems more frantic ,our normal set is about 2hrs to 2hrs 15 so I think when writing it is good to have more than one version of a song ,Check out some of Neil Youngs stuff they are good examples of long and short versions .

As some of you know I will be heading to the uk for an extended stay again at the end of this month during which time I hope to put a band together so I can perform my original stuff an some classics .From the beginning of January I will be based in the north west between Settle and Lancaster so any one in that region can contact me via chordie .Idealy I'm looking for a bass player and drummer maybe a second guitar or keyboard.Those of you who have played my songs know the style both of my original stuff and the GB Blues band tracks so its basicaly country blues wwith a slightly heavy edge that I'm aiming for.
Experience in a working band isnt esential because theres no guarantees of pay enthusiasm and reliability are however key factors.
Dont be shy and remember age is no barrier Never to old to rock n roll

Thanks for the positive comments guys ,some times I'm a bit unsure about how far to go with the comedy stuff I do tone the publishable stuff down a bit so as not to cause offence you have to tread a fine line .
Something I heard once and I dont know if it is true or not is that John Lennon used to write dodgy or crude /funny lyrics to his songs when first writing them but would change them afterwards,not that I would ever draw comparisons to my work and his but it is funny how certain lines just pop in like Jim mentioned in the previous post,certainly the product of a miss spent youth in my case.

We had an informal session at the Itanos in Sitia on Friday night 11 people turned up to play and quite a few spectators Nik and steff from GB joined me for a totally un rehearsed set featuring several new songs Kev J played some new stuff that we hadnt heard before 3 young girls from Sitia did a terrific rendition of Demons wit Cindy Scholl , Martin Schrader came all the way from Agios Nicolas to play sax and Chris Bailley who had just recovered from a motorcycle accident also played with Desponia Petraliki

Joyo classic overdrive same as a tso8 tube screamer at a fraction of the cost annd a bit of delay from what ever echo/reverb you have I also add a trebble boost just to give a brighter tone helps cut through the bass and drums

At this festive time of year I often get asked to do some comedy songs at parties as most of the expats are pretty broadminded I get a chance to give em all some stick .
But its always good to have ago at your self too.
Being a man of the world and now entering those twilight years its time to reveal some past discrepancies and mistakes, and of course prior to meeting my beautiful wife like most men I have had my share of one night stands ,chance encounters and relationships that could have gone better .
This is the story of one of those nights of misspent youth .

Hi Jim my every day resonator is a guvnor resonator I bought it new for about 110 pounds around 8 yrs ago it is wooden body one not like the other two I have I added an old P90 type pickup and it sounds great.I cant really coment on the two you mention but if I were buying another I would probably look at somthing from micheal messers range of resonators as they are top quality at a sensible price. If you havent heard micheal check him on you tube great player and a nice guy.I think the imortant factors are that the action is high enough to give a good tone when playing slide buut low enough not to make it uncomfortable when you pick it .I use 10s guauge strings on all mine as I swap between slide and finger style and the heavy strings most come with are uncomfortable for me.I would suggest that what ever you buy has a factory installed pickup.Two last things worth considering ,weight the metal bodied ones can be very heavy especialy if you stand to play and some times you may find the tail piece on some rests lightly on the resonator causing a horrible vibration my cheapo guvnor did this when I first had it and I was forced to add apacking piece to raise it a little in order to stop it.Summing up if you fancy one get one that has a good quality resonator as this is the hear of the thing certainly the meser will be good but I would also take a look at vintage before you decide as there range is very well priced and good quality .when you get one you will enjoy the range of alturnate tunings that can be used ,open G is good for a start.

I use the boss rc2 live I have the external stop start button also this make life a whole lot easier when using it great product had it about 5 yrs I think the new rc 1 might be a good alternative

Thanks for the compliment Jim glad you like the vids .Currently we are now only doing summer time in Crete it gets a bit damp here in the winter months and nothing much only raki brewing goes on ,I'm here for xmas but its back to the UK for new year and then maybe for much of 2015 if certain things happen ,its too early to say yet but it looks like we may be commuting next year .
Re the song get a sound cloud account and play it its great I'm sure your voice will be much better than you say the first step is the hardest and once you take it you'll be singing like a bird
