I'm currently organizing a gathering of acoustic players/musicians in my area. The gathering is to be held in October close to the town of Fair Bluff, N.C. I've arranged a campsite by the river and the event is to last a weekend. The exact date has not been set but should be decided with-in the next couple of weeks. This isn't anything major just a few local players and some friends/fellow players from a few other forums. A weekend of camping, Barbeques/fish fries, picking and fishing. It will be a free event! You supply what you need (tent, food, drinks and such). All I ask is for visitors to clean their site before they leave. Boat/canoe rentals are available by a local charter that will issue discount rates to attendees. Anyway, I just thought I'd throw this out there... If there are any chordians close by that would like to join in your welcome to do so! Contact me for more detals. Peace!-Pix

I'll 2nd "Shawshank Redemption"  My favorite movie of all time and I've seen alot of movies...lol Owned a video store for 5 years about 8 years back. Sold it when DVD's came on the market and you could buy instead of rent for just $10 bucks more. I still have about 2,000 of the movies on hand but 1,500 are on vhs and I don't even have a vcr anymore to watch them on...lol They'll probably go on a yard sale sometime soon...

I can't speak personally about the G2.1U but I have the Zoom A2.1u and am very pleased with it! http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/products/a21u/ They appear to be very similar with the exception that one is designed for acoustic and one electric. The effects are very good and it's durably constructed. Very easy to operate. I've only had mine for 6 months but It's seen it's share of play time and so far has had no problems. I'm running mine into a stand alone digital recorder so I haven't tried interfacing with the pc through it ,so I can't really offer any views on that portion of it, but from the reviews I've seen all has been favorable. Hope that helps some... Peace!-Pix

Oh Yea...lol Welcome to Chordie!! smile

Hey kap,
As Roger said, You really need to just play the field and play as many as you can plugged and unplugged. It's all about what suits you and your style of play. Do you mainly fingerpick or strum? What size/profile neck are you most comfortable with? 1 11/16, 1 3/4,... C,D profile...etc Are you looking at Dreads, OM's, GC's...? Have you considered tone woods?  Not trying to get to nosy...lol Just trying to get a better idea of what your looking for in your next addition. I've been fortunate enough to be able to trade fairly extesively with guitars and thus have had the oppurtunity to play a wide variety of them. There are Several great options for you in that price range. I think Zurf mentioned Ibanez... I have an Ibanez Artwood 200ecvv that is excellent and is in your price range. They changed the model # a few years ago but it's still the same guitar. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=512337 The advertised price is a little over your budget but they are actually having a private sale on it for $499. You'd just have to call in and ask for the additional discount. This takamine was very impresive for it's price http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=512207 as was this one http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=516847  I just noticed that you were in Canada! I HIGHLY recommend you check into Simon & Patricks, Seagulls, Art & Lutherie, Norman, or anything put out by Godin. They're a Canadian company so they should be assesible to you. I currently have 4 of these and they are among my favorites. Highly recommended!! Here's a link to their site http://www.godinguitars.com/ Anouther great value in Canada are Garrison guitars! I have a G20 that has been a real joy! The company was purchased by Gibson several months back. I hear that gibson is not honoring the warrantys from the buy out but The value of the pre-gibson models are rising. So You can buy a posibly new old stock pre-gibson model and the value will likely increase some over time or go with a newer gidson production and have warranty but the value will probably not increase... I'll stop there...lol I tend to ramble on at times smile Best of luck in your search! Peace! -Pix

I've played a few of the electrics and they have all performed well but I haven't tried the acoustics... Arkady asked the same question a few weeks ago and this was my reply

"Cort has really started to turn some heads recently with their acoustics. I haven't had a chance to try one myself but have heard really good things about their Earth series. I haven't heard much about the SFX line but I know they are a slim guitar that seems to be more focused on their electrical side. I imagine they sound great plugged but they probably won't sound as full unplugged.
In your price range I'd really look for a good solid wood used guitar. A used Taylor 314ce would be in your price range along with several other great models/brands. Right now it's really a buyers market and the prices are great on gently used guitars that are often in near mint condition. You get allot more bang for your buck going this rought. Just my thoughts...
Also, I know you don't really ever plan to sell when buying, but more than likely you will end up upgrading in a few years and you want to consider their resale value."

I'm not sure of the model you were looking at but that pretty much sums up all I know about Corts...lol I'd really love get my hands on one of the earth models to try but pickings are slim in my area. Peace! -Pix

Had to add 2 more real quick...lol The second one (Buddha) I couldn't find on youtube anywhere so my wife made this vid and uploaded it for me.

I spend allot of my time on the web trying to find new music to play. Ocasionally I come across some really good songs..IMO You know the ones you hear and say man I gotta play that...lol Sometimes I post a link here to share with everyone, Well I've decided to just start this thread and keep a running list of songs that I've Really enjoyed playing/learning recently. Maybe someone else will find a song or two to motivate them to play it or pehaps one of you will have some cool suggestions for songs to check out. I've always wished there was a place to just go and get like minded ideas without having to search endlesly for them, so I'm attempting to create one here. Hope some of you can find a gem or 2 scattered about...lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EkHTsc9PU2A Jason Mraz "I'm Yours"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_DxhxP_m74 Matthew mcAvene "Brighter"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0GsAfy8m5Y Mason Jennings "Fighter Girl"  I'll be posting a cover of this in the next day or so on youtube and will post a link here when it's uploaded. I plan to record it today if things go well.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0GsAfy8m5Y Ziggy Marley "True to Myself"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0GsAfy8m5Y Egyptian Reggae  big_smile I know...lol But man it's fun to play around with...lol I'm in the process of laying this down on my 8 track but here's a quick sample of me playing some of the flat picking and strumming that I recorded via webcam for youtube when I was warming up to lay some tracks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbIbpks2Dm0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oA8UEWLUkd0 Fugees "No Woman No Cry" This is a fairly easy pattern to play and it repeats for the entire song.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-bQ6tk8 … re=related Donovan Frankenrieter "Heading Home"

Well I think that's enough for the first post. I'll add more this evening and then few more every week as i find them. Peace! -Pix

Here's how I approach a song I'm going to attempt to cover. First I learn the guitar part (chords and progressions) then I sit down with the song playing and just really listen. I listen mainly for the breathing breaks. Proper breathing makes singing so much easier. When I know the lyrics fairly well and when to catch a breath, I play along with the song a couple of times. Just guitar at first then a few times humming along. Then I gradually fill in the words as I feel comfortable with them. Usually you'll struggle a little a first but you'll really be surprised how quick it comes once you conquer that first verse. After you get a few songs down it really starts to come together and you'll find the process takes less time with each song you learn. Soon you'll be playing and singing songs fairly well first time out. It's like everything else with the guitar...At first you think what the *#@%,  I'll never be able to do this...lol but soon enough it just clicks and you can't believe you ever thought it was hard at all. Get in the habit of tapping your foot while you play. You really shouldn't be worried about counting beats you need to relax and feel the music! Don't be afraid to make it your own. If its easier for you to play and sing it slower or faster then do so! You can always slow it down or speed it up later when you feel confident with the song if you want to. Peace! -Pix

I think I get this now but I had to log off to see it.

I had been expecting to see an Instant Messaging link with the E-mail and Website links but it does not work that way. If you click on the Username it will list their details including the IM link which you can then use to make contact.

Roger

That's what I was expecting also...Is there a way to add it. It would make it much easier than having to look at each individual profile and then you only get there contact info... Couldn't an active link displayed with your avi be arranged? Just a thought...

Hey Russ, no hurry at all. Just if you get time.. I get the basic functions. It's just trying to sync everything. This stuff is kinda confusing when your figuring it all out for the first time...lol  Thanks again!

Much appreciated Russ!! The complete manual can be found here as a pdf file http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8 … &type= I've played with it some and am slowly figuring it out but any translation to laymans terms would be appreciated!
The purchase was actually an interesting story. I ordered the recorder, mic, pop filter, a bongo cajun, A marshall AS50d, a cowbell smile, egg shakers and a Guiro at the same time. I know a pretty big order...lol Anyway, I recieve 2 of everything from musicians friend!! I wait a week struggling with my conscience (keep it or return it) and then finally call the company to inform them of their mistake. They are amazed that I reported it and want to return it so I get half off my order for being honest and a $50 store credit towards my next order!! If I'd have known I was going to end up getting half off the order it would have been much larger...lol Just goes to show that honesty does pay! Peace! -Pix

pix there are several issues you are asking so let me check out the links you provided and see exactly what kind of equipment you are working with i can say quickly it is a lot better to lay the accustic track 1st and as far as looping the percusion it depends on the recorder my br-8 has this feature but i will return and add more after i check out your links so standby.....shall return russ

Thanks Russ as payment I offer you this http://www.haagendazs.com/img_db/pro/pro_bpi_101.jpg  A large cyber bowl of ice cream smile I believe butter pecan is your favorite. big_smile

I was thinking the looping of percusion could possibly be done on audacity?

Is there any way to add our Instant messanger links to our profile. I think it'd be great to know who was online and willing to chat or discuss forum topics via IM. Just a thought... Any supporters?

Ok a month or so ago I purchased a digital recorder http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=241796 and mic http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=271593 I've been playing around with some tracks and I think I'm doing this the hard way. I've been laying down my guitar on one track and then laying my drums and vocals on seperate tracks. This works out ok but I'm having trouble keeping it all in sync. I don't know how to use the recorder to move my tracks and lay them in the right position without going through the trouble of syncing it while recording. Would it be best to just record one track at a time and then try to layer them using audacity. Can anyone give me some tips or a quick walk through? Also say I'm doing a song with a constant bongo pattern throughout..can I just record say 30 seconds of it and then loop it to continue for the whole song without having to play it for the entire track myself? Thanks -Pix

Maybe we should consider a recording section to the forum...There seems to be more and more questions coming up about it.

I'd love to head that way and probably will soon. Maybe the gas prices will drop a little. I don't mind the 6hrs on the road round trip but that $100 gas bill keeps me at home...lol It's getting about time to sale one of the 4x4 suvs and get a hybrid. You could always head this way for a weekend! I'm closer to the beach...lol The family is welcome of course. I can get a group together and make a real party of it wink

After all you do have that wonderfull company car and gas card...lol
