Daddy, I think we all use now and then profanity. When I used to work, and it became too much, I used also words as sh**, but those words are in my opinion not real profanity.
I just wanted to know, especially in the USA, if a movie, better a lot of movies, and certain if it are "prison-movies" that you find there people, representing a MINORITY, but due to circumstances, like being poor, bad education, blinded by "quick money" without doing a thing, made them a "MAJORITY" in prisons. The same with lyrics used by people in "rap" songs". What are the radiostations doing: a boycott, or a beep for every word. They are maybe better to sing: I want to beep ya, hey yo, beep beep yo, you are a beep, of a beep. This was my point.

- Watching a DVD, like movies about a prisoner, or gangs, 50% of the words they us are words like a***, m**f**.
This words are used maybe 10x more by Afro-Americans IN MOVIES. Like I take my n** a**to sit down in this m**f**chair.
- In our country, or in Europe, you can't compare this with the USA.
- Since we had discussions about this profanity, I loved to know how they deal with this movies, lyrics.
- Is this "cliché" about life in prison, hearing, while watching a movie about I will rape you m**f**, almost all said by Afro-Americans true? or really exaggerated?
- Is it also true that a minority represents a majority in prison? Here in Belgium, we have a lot of immigrants, coming from Morocco, this is also a minority of our population, but in prison the balance is different. Most of law offenders are these "Muslim People" who have problems because they are, what I call an in-between generation. Raised with their values and norms, and on the other side very influenced by big cars, money, our world let's say. They also don't have a real future, but also refuse to adapt, causing a big problem. If you have the opportunity to stay in another country, please adapt.
- Again: Is such a movie close to reality? What about such a movie in theatre? Censorship by replacing words like that by a beep? AND WHAT ABOUT LYRICS used IN RAP songs?
ANOTHER CULTURE CLASH?

Topic: MUSIC versus LYRICS (2 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
As known, I am not from an English speaking country. I noticed a big difference between TODAY and 40 years ago.
I don't mention DUTCH lyrics and songs, but ENGLISH lyrics and songs. About me, I have no problems at all with lyrics in English. BUT when I was 18 years old, fresh from school all I knew was: School English, School French.
Also, when they played a song, I just listened to the melody and never to the lyrics.
Today, most of the 18 year old people, here, listen more to the lyrics, but you have to face the facts= there are more people who have difficulties with English AND French, speaking and understanding. We hear a lot of English lyrics and melodies, and this can result in funny situations.
WEDDING: the first song, bride and groom, dancing on "Please release me"because they love the melody and don't understand lyrics.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ABOUT THIS:
You listen to a song for the very first time, what is the most important item or impression? I think that our attention goes first to the melody, followed by lyrics. Am I right or not?

Re: DIFFERENCE SIXTIES VERSUS SEVENTIES (9 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Topdown, I just saw that you have a 16 years old son, who loves these groups or songs.
It's amazing how many youngsters love songs end 6ties and early 7ties. Something different, my daughter, 20 years now, she (and this sounds unbelievable) adored, and could sing along with "Knocking on heavens door and November Rain" with almost a similar voice or intonation. She doesn't remember it, but it was so funny.
Some songs stand as rock. Remember (Bob Dylan too) the Animals having a huge hit with the House of The Rising Son (About this song, if you listen to the lyrics, some phrases are changed depending of the performers), and the version of FRIJID PINK= WHO WERE THEY???
RAM JAM: Black Betty. How many people know that this is a cover version?
It seems to be a very old song. Lead Belly is credited as the author, though the earliest recordings are not by him. Some sources claim it is one of Lead Belly's many adaptations of earlier folk material; in this case an 18th century marching cadence about a flint-lock rifle.
I know the Lead Belly version, found it on an unbelievable CD box: 100 years music (Sony), he is not playing that song but he sings, tapping with his feet as rhythm.

Topic: SINGERS AND VOICES (6 replies, posted in Bands and artists)
Am I wrong if I tell that the best singers are HARDROCK or METAL singers?
- First: I don't like the style where the singer, in a heavy metal band, is singing with an horrible low voice, like SEPULTURA and some other bands.
- Second: I really like the voices of singers in some Hardrock bands, like Ronny Dio, Robert Plant, Ian Gillan from Deep Purple (= who can sing like he did, CHILD IN TIME: from a soft ballad voice up to a passionate kind of screaming. THIS IS AMAZING & WHO OF YOU, MY FELLOW CHORDIANS IS ABLE TO SING THIS SONG LIKE HE DID? It is easy to play, except for the solo.) Bonn Scott, Axl Rose and also Freddie Mercury.
- Third: Why this question: because of their ability and skills to sing starting with a regular voice and the fact that they are able to sing with a soft voice up to an almost "screaming and high" voice.
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION?

Re: ABOUT CHORDS (3 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I agree 100% with you, the point is to use them well, to create an own song.
But Bone, this was meant as a question, a THEORETICAL question about how many chords you can play. Using them for a song is even greater, and you have a lot of variations.
so THIS IS 100% THEORY: the number of chords you are able to play. Like A B C D E F G +
Am Bm Cm Dm Em Fm Gm + A7 B7 C7 D7 E7 F7 G7, and others like Bd, B#.......

Re: FOLLOWING LESSONS TO IMPROVE YOUR GUITAR SKILLS (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Daddy, as usual, I wanted to write 10 different things on the same time.
- This is written more like it should be.
- When I started, the first song I could play was THE HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN.
second song: BLOWIN' IN THE WIND. I was already dreaming of "stardom." I was maybe close to it, because I worked as a Doc, on one of the biggest festival in Europe, 75.000 people, and 2 or 3 bands asked me to join them as a kind of personal Doc. (one of them was Metallica, another was David Grohl.) I can not see the future, and even getting a real lot of money, my place was here in Belgium.
- Forget about that. I stopped playing for a while, and started again, having an acoustic YAMAHA FG 300 my knowledge about chords improved, and I could play E A C D G (F and B, where very difficult back then) also Em Am and E7 G7 D7 A7= 11 chords, and you could do a lot using these chords. Period 1978 - 1988, and learning extra chords now = 21 (like D Dm D7 also the other chords =====> 1994.
- Next step: buying songbooks, pre-computer time, and trying to all the songs I knew.
- Style: strumming, strumming and strumming, but not rhythmic. I started to play better and better from the moment I could play rhythmic (jam, metronome)
- After my crash in 2000, I improved a lot, by learning a lot of other chords and my books.
- Finally: I started to play some licks and riff's, STILL STRUMMING, and using this strumming in combination with licks & riffs, I developed an own style.
- Before chordie: I played pretty good, and since chordie, I improved 100% thanks to all of you giving tips and tricks. I tried to play without plectrum=some fingerpicking, studied scales and my best friend (also drummer) learned me to play as I always wanted to play. The chord knowledge: from 21 up to 50, playing-along with CD's, and I can say now that I am not a bad player and that I should be glad. (A Canadian friend has a studio in MISSISAUGA is a genious, STUDIO, BACHELOR in MUSIC, PIANO, ARRANGEMENTS, PRODUCER, and he told me that I played quit good, even burned a CD). That event and comment helped me A LOT.
- Having "MY STYLE" since long, would it help if I took guitar lessons? I am afraid that whatever he shows, I would'nt follow his advice.
- IS IT STILL USEFUL TO TAKE LESSONS? ALSO KNOWING THAT I LEARN MORE THAN ENOUGH ON CHORDIE CLOSE TO MY STYLE?

Re: VENICE (9 replies, posted in Songwriting)
Well KEN, your my men, like Doll and Bone wrote, it pleases me. As told I'm a fast learner, so (since I'm out for a while = can't play, left wrist and finger, left) I wanted to write in WORD some word-combinations, to use in Lyrics. AND YOU GUYS: I am glad with your opinions and comments. Even if you should tell me to use Dm in stead of D7 I would start to use this chord and hear how it sounds.
I'm even convinced that creating a "bank" to put phrases, I hear, see so much phrases, every day, and this would be a nice collection of words. Sometimes in bed, I'm busy with lyrics, I even had a dream, where I had to write lyrics, found some but I was in school, almost naked, patients were calling, and I was still studying.
In fact that phrase can be used. Who doesn't have dreams, about studying, dream-faces from friends, I can jump very high, fly and having car accidents, or worse, driving on a road , surrounded by water. It even exists, if you drive from Miami to the keys. SCARY. I know a few people in Belgium who were afraid while driving on that road.

Topic: OPINION ABOUT VARIAX (4 replies, posted in Electric)
About 3 years ago, there was a big "storm" in Guitar world.
- ONE single guitar, having a lot of guitars, different brands on board.
- It was a hype, and even better, they played smooth, easy, and yes you could hear the different guitars.
I had a 700 model, in fact stupid because you have the same features on a 300. For me it was the neck, I don't like to play on guitars having this kind of neck. My Telecaster, far the best guitar I heard, is played compared to PRS, very little.(BECAUSE OF THE NECK) OK I'm a PRS addict, since 11 years, I had one and only a few professional or semi-professional guitar players knew PRS
What or how is the Variax Line6 today?
- popularity?
- used to perform?
- still a hype?
- A disappointing guitar?

I love guitars, 23 pieces now. I have a Martin D-1 Electro-acoustic.
I had a VARIAX line6 700 acoustic, but I traded it for a Burns 2x6, and an extra €300 on top.
I don't regret the trade, I just regret that I don't have no longer this Variax.

- About amps, I know VOX was very important.
- About guitars, this new for me.
I found a site with 2 models. They look like fenders, but it's like they cut pieces from a Fender, link: www.voxshowroom.com
I just noticed that they produce a MINI VOX 12 guitar. YOU REALLY HAVE TO SEE IT, IT IS UNBELIEVABLE, this guitar reminds me a puppy, you are impressed.

In fact what I wrote has nothing to do with UNKNOWN BRANDS.
I discovered some more
- GOYA guitars
- on www.edromanguitars.com you find different brands, with ED's comment, that his guitars, like Quicksilver, are a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT better than every other brand.
- DUESENBERG: Anyone experience here?

Topic: FOLLOWING LESSONS TO IMPROVE YOUR GUITAR SKILLS (5 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
This a question I wanted to ask so many times.
- First I wanted to say, my skills to play guitar are better since I met that lovely girl named CHORDIE.
- I also learned a few licks and riffs by watching some YOUTUBE clips.
HERE IT COMES: all these improvements are very close to the way I approach my guitar, more strumming, quick change chords, a few licks (maybe mini solos 10 seconds) and riffs.
THE SITUATION = I play guitar since 1973 (very little), but in fact, I started to play more since 1978. I improved playing guitar very slow and not at all every day.
Since 20 years, I started to play everyday sometimes 10 minutes, other days 2 hours. RESULT: I have an own style, probably like most of us.
If I should decide to follow lessons, would this be useful or not? Reason as told, you have or you play since years "a kind of personal style" and thanks to friends, and a Korg Pandora, having a rhythm section, I play better and better, but in fact ONLY the style I use to play since years. I'm 52 years YOUNG, have time, and I'm definitely not a pro. Maybe a good amateur. Has someone experience with this: playing and improving your skills, knowing a lot of chords and having a personal style? I really love to learn the "fingerpicking" style, and with all the on line lessons, or private lessons is it possible to change your style by following lessons?
Thanks

I tried to count, and I can play very smooth and easy 40 chords, and 13 chords, I can play, but they are not so easy to play.
DOC: 53 chords

Re: Changing chords (20 replies, posted in Acoustic)
Interesting answers. Like ebigham, explaining how he starts with D, and change to G. I think I do this different, and if my very good friend comes, and we play, he is always giving critics that I have to use that finger in stead of another finger. It makes me nervous sometime. I am able to switch very fast, even knowing that I could make it easier by using a different finger. CAN YOU CHANGE SOMEONE WHO PLAYS SINCE YEARS THAT WAY?
Changing strings, it scares me sometimes, I had years ago an incident, the small E string snapped, and hit my face. When changing strings, I am still afraid. ABOUT CHANGING CHORDS, there are many ways, I am almost convinced that everyone who plays guitar, has for some chords a different approach. It's so long ago that I started playing guitar. I remember me my first chord, an E chord, followed by Am. Some days, now, I play 1-2 hours, but it's more like 5 times 10-15 minutes a day. I do know many chords, some of them are really difficult and patience is important.

Topic: LIVE PERFORMANCE AMPS (4 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I loved to have some information about the gear big bands (like Led Zeppelin) use.
I had the luck to be ON STAGE in my "GLORY DAYS", with Neil Young, Foo Fighters, etc...
This is something I saw, but never asked how it works.
You can see a lot of Amp Cabinets maybe 20 on stage, 1 cabinet on another, in fact a wall of sound, or to be specific a wall of cabinets. I noticed at that time Marshall cabinets.
- What is the purpose, and more important: how are they all connected to each other, about Watt, what is the usual Watt amount of such a cabinet, is it like 150 Watt (if you own an amp producing this sound, and you stand just in front of them, they blow you away and just your shoes will still be there). My Fender Cybertwin produces 2x75 Watt, and the volume on 5 they can hear me 100 meter from my house. But this is a COMBO.
- How can they produce that volume or noise, (on a rock festival, and 100.000 people) that is still clear for people 250 meters from stage. I just noticed, and learned something more about a rack mountable head, I never heard about this expression. Do they connect all these cabinets, and if yes and you use a cabinet 150W connected with another, and another, can we speak about 300 - 500Watt? How do they control this system.
- Do they also connect AMP HEADS, one to another?
I would be very pleased if someone could explain this or post a link.
Thank you all

Overall: 7.41 (= what customers told)
This really seems unbelievable.

Thanks Russell, I just wanted to help (and as you know, I have "BY ACCIDENT" more than time) so as you know, it's a matter of honour to help, and to figure out the best solution. It takes me in at least between 30 and 90 minutes, to surf, search, compare, and posting all this info. As I told some expressions, I never heard of these, but I am a very fast student.
So GREY, I really want to help you (as told I have more than enough time, and it keeps me busy, I'm a Medical Doc, but due to the sequels of a car crash, I am disabled and this keeps me busy). Is it an amphead you want, or what do you mean by RACK-MOUNTABLE HEAD, I was convinced that it was a Line6 amphead. I will try to find out what this means.

Well James, I am jealous.
I can maybe make nice tunes, having it difficult to find lyrics.
AM I LOST FOR THE SOCIETY???? (could be a title). I can't play, broke my finger yesterday.
How it happened? LIKE IN A CARTOON. You know my condition, my mum was here to help me, I wanted to sit and lay down for a while. While turning to sit, my left leg didn't follow again, it's like paralysed, no power, it just sticks to the floor. I felt (like almost every week), and it was as if I could fly, over that table, to land 2 meters from where I stood. Nothing moved on that table, except for one side, I probably put my hand on that side, all glass around (1/2 of that table), and I couldn't move 1 inch. ONE MIRACLE, I had to take a generalist too, and he phoned a few seconds later, my poor mother was petrified, really scared and I was singing "this my way" + "I believe I can Fly" (a weird reaction), so my doc arrived 2 minutes later. He knows all about me, but if I should have told him that, it is would be difficult to believe, so he was witness, and this is real important. But no songs for a while.
I tried to play it, had to stop after the first chord, I love it anyway.

Re: NOT ONLY PLECTRUMS (22 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I can play with my fingers = a little "fingerpicking" I also try play this style, but for a short while.
About plectrums, for me the best picks are Dunlops. I always use a .73. It fits me well. You can play, strum and create a lot of noise on an acoustic. In fact I think it's all about the sound. The thicker they are, the louder the sound and if you use light-medium strings a lot of strings will die in the fight with your hand + pick.
They have really thin picks like a white .38. I've got one, but another brand, and no nylon. Using this = very soft and almost a "silent-like" sound. If not nylon it breaks real fast.
