Maybe you should, with all the detritus the politicians are dumping on us I for one could do with a good laugh...ho ho ho!

Had a quick strum last night, I'll have another go over the weekend and see what comes up.

This year I bought an Alpha Cruncher from Amazon. Budget price and 3 great sounding FX. REVERB/ECHO. Distortion and chorus. I don't use the distortion for acoustic playing, but the other FX make the guitar fuller sounding.

Great song. As Peatle says, most if not all of us have been there? Both parts. The rebel and the break up. Ann and my kids would be surprised if they knew about my rebel days or even that I had some, rebel days that is.

Recording soon?

I've watched this before, I wonder if or how many strings he's broken doing that. I do it myself now but don't stretch them that far. Nice one Mr Walsh.

That's friendship indeed. Not just cleaning and tuning but actually having the goodness to search for and buy an instrument for a visiting friend. I sincerely hope you and your friend have an enjoyable time.

and not one smile as you sang with such irony. i think you and i are on the same wavelength Grah, the rest of the world seem to think that we Brits are well off...breaking news folks, most of us are not! full marks for this one Grah. i'm a big Jethro Tull fan and this is on the same wavelength as greats such as "two fingers"

hi Tony. i've said it before and i'll say it again; you are a talented musician, writer and arranger. you should be writing scores for hollywood movies or tv dramas. these are two excellent compositions and i could almost see the scenes that would accompany them. fab.

TF, Steve Howe uses really heavy gauge strings, a fact i saw on Y.T.

my own preference is 9's on electric and 10's on acoustic. i practise mainly on acoustic as i think playing acoustic is harder, fingering wise, and so strengthens my fingers also making it feel easier when playing live. i also find that playing chords on acoustic at the 12th fret (E or A) is murder, so on my Tele it feels so much easier. but that's my opinion and i feel electric and acoustic are two separate species.

What is vocal FX  ?

hi Jim. the vocal FX i was referring to is applied to the singers voice to make it sound deeper or lower in range to make him sound as if he has a deep voice and a really high voice in the part where he's hitting the high register. it can be applied with a vocal harmonizer or range shifter. i suppose you've seen people on tv breathing in helium? well it's dangerous, so they don't it's all done with FX.

I don't understand it! I left a reply, in fact the second post, but it's gone..?.strange, though my WiFi has been playing silly beggars of late! I shall try and remember what I wrote.

I've loved Nilson since a friend played me the point way back. You've done a great job Bill...well done, I remember commenting on your ad-lib "had enough yet" answer...no, more please

That's a good un. Humour and a nice bit of heavyness. That guy has a great range, if a little vocal FX was applied? All the better.

Boozers.....you took me on the lash.

Employers....you threw me in the trash.

Lawyers.... relieved me of my cash.

Women, kids and psychopath's

Make a nice middle 8 ?

we've discussed this before i think, most of us oldies do not like "rap"?

most Sundays Ann and myself go to our local Rail mens club, sorry i know it should be rail persons, which has a show on every Sunday night. So, most Sundays they have vocalists that use backing tracks but last Sunday we were treated to a vocal/guitarist for a change. Ann and I are about the youngest there at 67!!! so there was a little bit of grumbling going on, but we were chuft. Any road up, the guy played Queen's "This thing called love" and it was very good, but I realised that the singers sing it almost every week but in the Michael Buble style which is swing, so I realized I don't like swing and big band music along with modern jazz, opera, rap and that dance music where DJ's steal real musicians efforts and make it into bat guano.

Am I alone here?

I've often said to Ann that we're so lucky that we are reasonably healthy, apart from the occasional ache and pain in the joints! I've seen so many friends and relatives depart this life but still think I'm fortunate that my own offspring are all alive and kicking.

Your song hits the spot and your rendition is soulful and poignant. Well done and thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys. I read it to Ann who loved it. Haven't had a chance to read it to the grandkids yet, I think the youngest will love it? I'm thinking of sending it to my local paper though I'm a little dubious about the "pooped" line?

yes it's christmas time again, i'm not doing a song this year, just this little poem that came to me in the shower yesterday.

Santa Lost A Reindeer.          Phill Williams. 2/12/18.

When Santa lost a reindeer.
He called on all the elves.
We need to search the stockroom.
And all the toy filled shelves.
They started at the bottom.
And searched right to the top.
But no sign of the reindeer.
Will Christmas be a flop?

He called on all the reindeer.
Munching on their hay.
We've got a wayward reindeer.
They were concerned to hear him say.
They flew around the North Pole.
The ice floes with no luck.
They asked the seals and narwhals.
And they asked “what's the fuss?”
“Santa has more reindeer.
Enough to pull his sled.”
“Well thanks a bunch “ the reindeer said.
Then pooped upon their heads.

“Christmas eve's approaching.
Time is getting near.
The sled is loaded to the top.
We won't take off I fear.”
Then the stable door flew open.
The reindeer gave a shudder.
“Hello, “ he said, “ I'm still in time?”
“I've been to see my mother.”

I was in a band called Sylvester. In the beginning it was great playing rock music with some pop songs and standards included. After some time it all got a little harder for me and the other guys I expect, I was something of a premadonna! I was on the verge of jumping ship when they turned up for a gig. I had my gear by the door, had my bath and asked if we were ready for the gig. They said yes we're going but you're not. No written warning....nothing! Ah well

One of my favourite Nilson songs. Always reminds me of a sad episode of Bones.

Keep going, we're all enjoying your covers. I'm sure you have some originals too?

Bill. I put up some wall brackets/guitar fork type things to hang my guitars on (4) while we were doing my studio (front room) out. Now I just hang them up (guitars) when I'm finished, it keeps them off the floor cos I have a lot of grandkids that don't look where they're going.

I used to have one of those "fold up" stands till a compare in a club I was playing knocked my Strat over while I was on a break. Now my baby stays in her case when not in use.
