Took me awhile to find this. I didn't realize how long it had been since a post was made in this thread.
First day of Spring here in the Northern Hemisphere and we have 6" of fresh snow on the ground.
30 miles to our South and they're expecting 15"

Nice pic! Any videos?
If it wasn't for the late MIL's house needing prepped for sale I would have been there. One way or another I'll be there for the next one. ![]()

My FAVORITE thing about BYG? Getting to chit chat with those that I now consider old friends, and getting a wider taste of different guitar playing styles!
And being able to close out your workweek when I roll in around 1:00 on Friday afternoon. ![]()

Can't say I've ever heard of them.
Like BGD and others, I found John Pearse quite a few years ago. They seem to ring better and last longer than other brands I've used.

Especially if Jim is in charge of the fire. City girl, you know.
Jim can certainly cook up a fire. But with the barn gone, I'm not sure he could ever top the fire of 2015. Probably the biggest campfire I've ever been to.

Well the work at the late mother-in-law's place hasn't progressed as well as I would have hoped so it looks like I will again have to bow out.
Hope everyone has a great trip and a fun filled weekend.

That was excellent - I'm not familiar with the song, but the dude on the black guitar really added lots to it ...
In fact, just going a bit OT - I'm surprised how many 'standards' you have that I haven't heard, and how many songs I'd consider 'bread and butter' songs that you guys haven't heard ... anyway, back on-topic!!
Thank you neo. Yes. Scott (the dude on the black guitar) adds a lot to everything.
City of New Orleans is considered a classic here in the States and I've been playing it almost as long as I've been playing guitar. I have a recording of it done by Steve Goodman ( the man that wrote it) from a radio interview he did in New York in '82. I based my version on that one.

But this is the man that brought it to the attention of the people.

Re: Guitar Requirements (11 replies, posted in Acoustic)
At a bare minimum I want a solid wood top but prefer solid wood all around. My first guitar (35 years ago) was all laminate. I was poor back then and couldn't afford an all wood guitar. Then again, I didn't really know the difference. At the time it was the best thing I had ever heard. A couple years later I traded a bicycle for an Alvarez 12 string. It has a solid spruce top and mahogany back and sides. The sound was so much fuller and cleaner but I attributed it to the extra strings. I later found out it was the solid wood that really made the difference.
I'm not too particular on nut width. I bounce back and forth between the 6 and 12 which of course have different widths. It just takes a few songs to adjust to the wider neck.
I'm not that picky about the fretboard material either. My 35 year old Epi with rosewood has minor depressions in the first 5 frets but doesn't create a problem yet. So rosewood works well enough for what I do.
Like Tyson, I don't like a flashy pickguard or mountains of fret inlay. But I have to admit, I want fret markers. I like the way some makers have started putting them on the edge instead of the face of the fretboard.
The neck shape I am particular about. I don't like the V shape at all. The U or D shape is tolerable but I prefer the softer, smoother curve of the C. It just fits my hand better.
Overall my main criteria is the feel of it in my hands and sound quality. Like TF said; big name brand does not necessarily mean the best guitar. I played a couple Martins and Taylors that just didn't fell comfortable and I've never come across a Gison that I would want to own. While my Alvarez, at a fraction of the cost, plays like a dream and I would take it over many models of the big names.

From what I've been told, they would spend money to buy innovative companies, then shelve the innovations and shutter the production facilities in order not to compete with their main line products. That's just crazy.
I read that somewhere too.
There was a local concrete contractor that did the same thing. He bought a completing company, took all the cement trucks to his place and parked them. They've been sitting there idle for close to 20 years now.

Here in the states a pickle is a cucumber/gherkin living in a mainly vinegar brine. There are varying degrees of strength to the brine from a very sour dill pickle to the sweet gherkin. We have pickled eggs as well. I always add red beets when I make pickled eggs.
And we have the same expression; "I got myself in a real pickle this time"

The lit cigarette slipped into the high E string which you purposely left a little long doesn't count, sorry!
Bill
Boy do I remember that! I tucked mine under the low E above the nut. Start playing a song and the cigarette slowly burn down and you had the ashes falling to the floor. ![]()

That was a fun night until a migraine hit me. Your friends are all very talented.
Yeah I was really bummed when you said you had to leave. I didn't think about it at the time but the owner's wife has migraine pills and I have no doubt she would have given a couple up so you weren't driving home with your head pounding.
UJB you got a good duo going there excellent sound..
Thank you Peatle. We've been playing together for about a year and a half. It's a work in progress.
