SouthPaw41L wrote:Ye-haw topdown! Tak's are great guitars. As far as a good sounding acoustic amp that'll do your new guitar and 'yer voice justice, I like the Marshall solo acoustic 50watt amps. I have 2 of them and use 'em for my smaller gigs. They sound fantastic. I tried the Crate amps and they sounded nice with my guitar but my vocals sounded like I was singing with a coffee can over my head. The Marshall, in my world at least, is the far better amp. You can get a brand , spanking, new one for well under the price you're wanting to spend too.
Good recommendation! I've heard lots of good things about these amps but have never had the pleasure of trying or hearing one personally.
Hey Tops! Congrats!! You got pics? As far as acoustic amps.. I'd look at the Ultrasound line http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=488507 and the fender acoutasonic http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=480728 The rolands are a decent value also http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ … sku=480176 I have a Ultrasound ag-50 and love it. I also have a hughes & kettner montana acoustic 60 that performs really well.
As far as the diffrence...Yes there's a huge sound diffrence between an acoustic amp and an electric amp. I have a stack and a couple of small electric amps that I used prior to the acoustic amps and the diffrence was really remarkable with going to a QUALITY acoustic amp. Best of luck in your search! Peace! Pix

i can do normal bar chords, but i can't grab both high strings with my index because my guitar is a bitch to press. my finger is all the way down but the string kinda like cuts up into the flesh
After time you'll develop a pad on your barre finger and it will ease up (just like your fingertips did when starting out) but if it's really that hard to barre the strings you probably need a decent set up....
I always thought "Comfortably Numb" was a good title....
That would be the fret it's played on. Best of luck! Peace!

Hey Russ, Just hit your refresh button and it should come up...Or atleast mine did...Peace!
When I first started I wanted to learn "Burn one Down" by Ben Harper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryLqfNwSSFE That was my goal song I guess... It took me about a year before I could play if correctly. Not too bad considering at the time I couldn't even strum the guitar...lol After that It was "Taylor" by Jack Johnson http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0H600En … re=related I got it down (right) about 2 months ago...
In general I don't care for rap but there are a few exceptions. As far as bands/Artists... I Hate The Dixie Chicks... Ummm lets see... I'll have to think for more here.... Oh yea! How could I forget Justin Timberlake! And since I saw the video for "I believe in a thing called love" I'll never respect Darkness again! If you have a guilty conscience you may punish yourself here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-4VOLeKBOw That has to be the worst video ever!!

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Feelin' A Whole Lot Better by The Byrds or all Byrd's tunes
Life By The Drop by Stevie Ray Vaughan (great tune!)
.......and if you don't have a 12 string but want a similar effect, get yourself a chorus pedal a crank the depth setting and go mild on the speed setting...no chorus pedal? sit under a ceeling fan, low speed, almost the same effect to the person sitting underneath or nearby said fan..........
Thanks! That's a cool trick with the fan.. I'll have to check into that one...Wonder if it'll change a 12 to a 24...
When I first started on barre chords I found that It was much easier (for me at least) to hold the guitar in a more classical position. Put the waist of the guitar on the left leg (assuming your right handed) and raise the head of the guitar slightly. This helps get your arm/elbow away from your body. Holding your elbow against your side is poor positioning and makes it more difficult. There's alot of short cuts around the Barre chords that have been mentioned but I find it much better to learn it properly first even if it is harder and takes more time. If not you'll just eventually have to relearn it. The hooking of the thumb is good for some fingerpicking styles but in my opinion that's were it should stay...No offense sinner...It just makes it more difficult IMO... Practice your full Barreing and if it proves to difficult for you then tune your guitar down a step to reduce string tension. This will change the key but what your looking for is finger memory and strength and it'll help. Once you can do it at that tension raise it 1/2 step and practice for awhile. Then you can move back up to full tension. Just as a tip if you tune down a whole step putting a capo on the second fret will put you back in standard tunning to play with others and when tunning down 1/2 step capo goes on 1st fret for standard. I keep most of mine tuned down half a step just for finger comfort but it also reduces the fatigue on your guitar top (bellying and such)...Just some ideas....Best of luck with it! Peace! -Pix
Congrats! So you got the wd-32sw! What do you think of her? A few tips... try going to Extra lights .o10 - .047s. I find that elixers have a softer feel and are more comfortable. That's just personal opinion ,of course...You can tune down half a step to lower the string tension. Putting a capo on the 1st fret will put it back in standard tunning and lower the action. I'd really recommend you have it set up by a professional though...
Hey tops, Composite acoustics is a sponser of anouther forum that I visit regularly. They have alot of info on these. Several members have them and are happy to share their views. I did a search for related threads and this is what I got http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/foru … hid=482790 A read through these posts will probably answer any questions you may have. I've listened to sound clips of a few diffrent models and their is a big tone diffrence (good or bad is up to the listner). The advantages are obvious....Unaffected by temp and humidity...etc The only real drawback I can see is that a composite guitar will never open up or mature. The sound it has when you get it is how it's going to sound in the future. It won't improve over time like a wood guitar which will probably affect resale value. IMO I don't see them ever going up in value. Just something to consider. I think if you play alot outdoors, in extreme conditions, or live in a area where humidity is always an issue they are a viable solution. Just my 2 lincolns...
I agree with Top on this one! The godin line are great! You may want to also check out Garrison. Anouther outstanding value from Canada!
Russell_Harding wrote:heres a great song for 12 string turn turn turn byrds
Thanks Russ! Always loved that song! Cant believe I had forgotten about it!
From what I've seen they're fine guitars. The WD32SW is a solid wood guitar. Spruce top and solid Sapale back and sides. Sapale is almost identicle to mohagany as far as tone. The solid woods will help it age and mature with time and playing. I'd expect it to have a nice warm tone...Sound like a good deal to me. As far as what to check...I judge a guitar foremost by it's tone. Tone is really a personal interpretation. 2 people will hear and descibe the tone of the same guitar diffrently (usually). So bottom line, If it sings to you, It's good...You'll know when you hear it..Second I look at build and playability. There's lots to look at here..How's the action? Is the neck straight? Any cracks? Any previous repairs? Is the bridge lifting or cantering? Any severe bellying around the bridge (some is normal and to be expected)? A good way to check for problems here is to tap (Please don't use your fingernails) the top of the guitar and listen for any rattles that may indicate a lose brace. Play all along the neck checking for buzz. Check the saddle and make sure it hasn't been cut really low to compensate for some stuctural/neck issue. Check the neck joint and all the bindings for any trouble signs...These are just some of the basic things to look at... And lastly I look at it's apperance. I'd buy a ugly guitar that sounded great rather than a pretty one that sounds only so-so. From what I've seen ,as far as pics of the guitar your looking at, I don't think you need to be concerned about the looks anyway
Again it sounds like a fair deal to me...I'd buy it based on what I've read of them. Hope some of that was helpfull...lol I kinda rambled on a bit
Peace and good luck with the guitar!
topdown wrote:That's a purty guitar pix - I am severely jealous of your collection. Keep that strung as a 12 for a while at least - I'd love to try it out. If I don't make it your way before it, Merlefest is less than 2 months away!
Your always welcome to stop in!! Beer on me! Can't wait for Merlefest! It's sure to be a blast!
topdown wrote:Pix - Another guitar! How many does that make?
How 'bout some details on the 12er, make model and your opinion. And hey - update the GAS on flikr would ya - I just went lookin for the new 12.
Still just me and my old yammy, but I'll be adding soon - let me know if you see or have any good deals. Take care buddy.
Hey Tops, How's things been going? Yea I picked up a ALVAREZ PJ-85SC/12 DVS. I just put some pics of it on my flickr page for ya! I love it! Fit and finish is outstanding! I love the maple binding used on these. Nice quality solid woods (spruce top and rosewood back and sides) In person you can even see a good deal of bearclawing in the spruce top. It's almost a shame it was stained and hidden. She playes wonderfully and the tone excellent. It's alot more responsive than alot of the 12s I've played. Most companys tend to overbuild 12 strings but this one has a nice balance. I'll probably keep it as a 12 string for now but will probably string it as a 6 when the new elixer 12's wear out. I tried the 6 string version and loved it but the neck was a little narrow for my taste so I bought a 12. That way I can have the best of both worlds...String it as a 12 or as a 6 with wider spacing. Yea the wife's still not talking to me....But sometimes you have to wonder...Is that really such a bad thing... After all sleeping on the couch is fun..Kinda like camping
Just kidding she's always supportive....WOS..Peace!
I think it is standard tunning...But I have been wrong before...lol I'm probably going to try to pick this up myself. It had been forever since I heard this...Man the years fly by...
I watched this cover and will probably use it to learn the song. Maybe it'll help you out some also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aVS-0_PAjMs
I'm looking for some good songs for a 12 string. I got a 12 string the other day and have been playing around with it. I've been playing Hotel California, Wanted Dead or Alive, and Wild Horses. Now I'm running short on ideas... Anybody have any good suggestions for 12 string songs?
I may should have posted this in song requests... If so feel free to move it
But it is an acoustic
Peace!

I bought a guitar the other day and there were a few of these in the case. They were the cat tongue .60s. I tried them out and have to say I'm very impressed! Amazing grip on these things! I just ordered a set of slighly heavier ones. I'd have to recommend these as well. I'm not saying I prefer these to my Dunlops but they are just as good! IMO... We'll see when the right gauge gets here....Peace! -Pix
Well if you know the chords, I'd play it with the music going. I find it easier to remember the words and sing along if I play along with the song. It also helps with your rhythm and timing...Just thoughts...Peace
I just wanted to share this site with my fellow Chordians... http://www.musictheory.net/index.html I have found it really helpfull in learning theory. The lessons are simple and easy to understand and the trainers are great practice. Just thought some of you might find it helpful also...Peace! -Pix
