Welcome from another newbie (I'm not longer the new kid on the block!!) - whilst your diagnosis sucks, spare a thought for those people who go to work one day and never come back, who didn't have such luck ... 3 years is a long time to make some good memories, so make the most of it while you can, because some of us won't know when our time will be up; I've started recording videos for my kids because having them at such a late age, I'm not sure I'll be around to see grandkids ... wishing you all the best ...

My mixer is super basic. I have none of that. But thank you very much for the ideas!
What make/model is it??

Re: Recording Questions (28 replies, posted in Recording)
It's a pretty simple mixer. Only has one out, not one out per Channel.
If you have FX send/receive on your mixer, you can set one channel (vocal) to "send" on FX1, and the other channel (guitar) to "send" on FX2, then use that as your stereo mix into the computer (or whatever) as left and right tracks, which gives you a rudimentary 2 channel mix .... you'll probably still get some crosstalk, but from your previous posts it sounds like that won't be too much of an issue for you.
HTH!

Re: SUGGESTIONS: OCTOBER 2017 FEATURED SONG OF THE MONTH (17 replies, posted in Featured Song of the Month)
One, two.... as many as you like (I think). The purpose is somewhat to get folks to "stretch their legs" a bit and perhaps get off "the beaten path" so to speak.
Time, by Pink Floyd
Streets of London, Ralph McTell
I'm not in love, 10cc
I did like your Jim Croce rendition (same chords I use) and the second time through I played along. I fingerpicked and it sounded like a good duet, right up to the part where you used an A where I transition through C#, F#m, A..... I think my timing slipped (stumbled). Thinking I might use your rendition as a backing track and mix in mine (as a duet) and see what happens..... if you've no objection. I'll send you a copy of the finished recording for your approval. It's been awhile since I have done any recording, so patience please.
No objection whatsoever - will be happy to hear it!!
Cheers
Richard

The rules seem to be somewhat fluid and (by mutual assent) barely enforced. It's all just a format for fun and learning, really.

On that note, just went and watched your cover of "I had to say I love you" .... very nice ..... you covered it well, timing great, and you had a lovely soft voice with that particular song which suited it. Well done
Thanks, my voice isn't great, but trying to get it better - on that note, was I supposed to do "Sundown" as well?

Re: Introduction (26 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Hi Richard, nice to meet you. I am a bit up to the neck in it at present but I will look at your music later. (I might even listen too
).
See, that's the problem on the other side of the world - instead of being up to your neck, you'd only be up to your ankles ![]()
Your earlier comment has intrigued me; does standing on your head all the time mean that you have to do a handstand when you wish to use the loo?
No, because the water goes the other way ... ![]()
Cheers

I just listen to your track Richard. Nice guitar and the lady has a good voice. I just play piano and guitar by feel but recently I have stoped playing due to a medical condition.
Hope you feel better soon, these were my vocals from the same album http://neophytte.mine.nu/audio/mp3/10-Beauty_Queen.mp3
Enjoy!

Re: noise gates and where to put them (2 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
Depends on your guitar and amp set up; if you have an FX loop, then I'd put it behind the guitar before it goes the pre-amp (cleans up noise from guitar), if you're running your guitar straight into the pedals, then into the pre-amp, my experiments found the best place was (for different guitars) either directly before the overdrive, gain type pedals, or at the end of the chain before the amp input.
There is no "one size fits all" answer here, it's really a case of experimenting until it sounds right to you ...
Hope it helps ...

Re: Introduction (26 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
Welcome Richard to the land of Chordie. As a person who has always been really curious about music and slightly confused by the world, I find this is an excellent place to check out and share ideas.
Thanks - all it takes is curiosity to create, and take it further than where you found it ...
