Martin is producing acoustics, like Fender produces electrics.
The biggest problem is, the difference between some of their guitars.
What is the difference between a D-40 & a D-41? I am aware that Martin uses different bracing patterns, but is this that important for the sound?
There are a lot of Martins today, starting with a backpacker, and I still don't know where to place this "guitar?". The sound is not a guitar sound, so I should go for the Martin or Baby Taylor. The backpacker sound is really special, and can be used to have a "special sound", playing it.
You have a Martin DX-1, and a D-1 again what is different here? Isn't the DX-1 made of a solid
Solid Sitka Spruce and the back and sides laminate? The D-1 100% real wood? I have a D-1 also the only guitar equipped with an electric-acoustic pick-up, and playing louder than loud, not using your amp?I also don't see the same bracing inside. It starts getting more complex, in the higher priced section. D-15 MAHAGONY and dark brown, providing a soft sweet sound. When I had only the HD-28 and the D-15, I called the 28 HE and the D-15 SHE. The D-15 is followed by a D-16, a D-18
and here WHAT IS DIFFERENT, except for the price, the wood, the bracing? A Martin DM (what is here the difference? and up to a D or HD-28, this guitar, having quit a few Martins is probably one of the best guitars in the world. You continue and the next is a D-35, a Martin D-41, or D-42
What I was doing is in fact trying to compare, until now ONLY MARTINS, like the difference between a MARTIN D-35 and a D-42. A D-42 will cost you twice as much as a D-35. About MARTIN, one of the best sites to compare is www.musiciansfriend.com and this site gives you the opportunity to compare. Except for the price, the "material" used in a D-35 and D-42 is the same. They have both a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides BUT a D-35 has a 3-piece rosewood back and Rosewood sides.
THE SAME PROBLEMS TO CHOOSE A GUITAR, OR TO COMPARE IS GIBSON. You can learn a lot by compare the guitars, but the sound??? I tried some months ago a D-42, versus a D-45, JESUS, it is so hard to make a conclusion. Worse, if you search TAYLOR, you get 229 results. From my lazy seat, it is important to start comparing a bunch of guitars, and if money is no problem, it will be a problem going to a store and compare to search and find the guitar of your dreams.
It is a long and VERY DIFFICULT (SUBJECTIVE) TOPIC, so I am very interested in the way you "chordians" solve this problem. There are some guitar geniuses here, and I do hope they can help me and others, by telling how or what is the best way to choose their best of. I know that the best way is going to the store and start playing guitars as much as possible, but how long will that take? This is the main reason of writing this topic, A GOOD ADVISE BEFORE BUYING.
I hope to get some answers, I should be very pleased, to have more info. The market has grown so big, that it's almost impossible to buy a guitar, NOT TALKING ABOUT LOWER BUDGET, like GIBSON SJ-200 versus EPIPHONE AJ-200, but more a GIBSON SJ-185 versus a SJ-200

Re: Dreadnoughts and OOO martins (7 replies, posted in Acoustic)
I have a huge collection of wonderful guitars, being an amateur. That collection started by coincidence, with a Martin HD-28, paying 700€ = 1032$ 10 years ago, from a drug addict who needed money. Other masterpieces: a FENDER STRATOCASTER 1964 together with a GIBSON LES PAUL 1968 BLACK (= black beauty), from an alcoholic, who is/was a brilliant player. UNBELIEVABLE HOW PEOPLE CAN DEGENERATE. He lived in function and was dominated by king alcohol. I helped a lot of people, with these problems, also drug addicts. The problem is that alcohol is a social drug, and people addicted to alcohol!!! = horrible. More than once I saw RICH people ending under a bridge, being homeless, kicked out of their big luxe houses, by their spouses. This is a typical story, nobody helps or cares about these people, BECAUSE ALCOHOL IS CONSIDERED AS A SOCIAL DRUG. Looking back, alcohol is even the worst drug.
About that Fender and Gibson, he asked 4000€, I gave him 5000€, knowing what he would do with that money. And thanks to a high ranked customer at the airport, I did some "golden business" Other guitars are
ACOUSTIC:
Martin D-1, a Martin D1-12, Martin D-15 (dark brown, mahagony), Martin HD-28 and a Martin D-45V.
What is in fact the difference between a D-45 and a D-45V???
ELECTRIC:
Burns 2x6, 2 GIBSON LES PAUL CUSTOM, SG, Flying V, and a Gibson LP Supreme (sold my Standard, but I regret it.) Epiphone Sheraton, Variax 700, PRS Custom 24 '1993), PRS EG serie, USA made, only in production from 1990-1992, and I don't see them on eBay, where I bought them. 3 Combinations, S-S-S (to compete with Fender), this one plays even a lot better, having 3 single coils, Lindy Fralin, domino shape, a stupid idea, Fender existing about 40 years. A S-S-H and a H-S-H. I agree, I am blessed to have and to play, such a collection, starting with my HD-28. I gave a lot of money to very good friends, realising their dream, a music store. Getting back the money is another story, so they paid me back with instruments. They didn't loose a lot, and I received guitars. Now, in my medical condition, I am happy with these guitars, so 2/3 of my collection started like this. Martin D45V, comes from GRUHN, and comparing the $$ versus €€you can buy a guitar in the USA, for an unbelievable price, being European. The price of a Martin D-45V is here 8000€ = 12000$, if you can afford it, it is worth to go to the States having your dream guitar, and enough money left for a BIG holiday.
I can only add: it all started stupid, a lot of people had fun, but their fun has gone, seeing the prices now.

I just found an interesting site, with music banned, no airplay, or worse.
Is this mentality still present or not. Some "highlights" The Doors with Light My Fire.
The legendary sleeve from the Rolling Stones album, using a zipper
The song GLORIA by THEM (Van Morisson) being performed by the Shadows of Knight, because the phrase or lyric she comes in my room" is too suggestive.
WHO GETS THE MONEY HERE? They didn't write the song, just change a small lyric, so the rights, who has 'them'
It is amazing how the band and the song are subject to such unbelievable measures. Who were those guys, and this in the "land of the free"?

Re: Michael Jackson (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
So I've moved it. There is probably a big difference between the law in USA versus Europe.
There are some points that are really horrible for me.
- THREE STRIKES, I don't know exactly what it is, but is this meaning that when you are convicted 2 times, TALKING about really small illegal things, like being arrested for possession of illegal substances, and you are arrested a third time, you won't get out of prison for the rest of your life???
- Sitting years on death row, even if they committed a murder 1st degree, it is not human to stay for years and years on deathrow.
- OJ Simpsons trial 15 years ago, he was NOT GUILTY, but he had to pay a fortune for the victims.
This one is really strange, you are FREE, NOT GUILTY but you have to pay. I don't care what he did now, but I absolutely don't understand the juridic system.
- I have to take very "heavy" medication, what do I need to cross the border, without problems: ask for an examination, or bringing my own, very strong injections with me, confirmed by BELGIUM Doctors?
- The ammendements, when did they write those?
- What about lawyers, do they start alone, independent, or do they join an existing firm. All this stuff, I just know it from TV and movies, like becoming a partner in a law firm, is this true. What I love is that TV serie, Judge Judy(?) is it really going like that?
Attention: we have still here the NAPOLEON CODEX used for trials.. I still have 1000 questions, but in Belgium to, a lot of inmates are not from here. I am more someone thinking like this: if you do in their country what they do here (Morocco on number 1), they should be punished here like in their country. Their religion forbids them to eat "porc", so they have a special treatment, just try this to ask it there. It is really fascinating to see the difference between Europe and the USA.

Re: Michael Jackson (7 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I AM PUTTING THIS IN CHORDIE'S CHATCORNER.
If you see a movie, about PRISONERS, is it really THAT bad, like raping, attack other inmates.
Looking to our prisons, they seems to have still a life.
I know, this is a delicate subject, once out of prison, you come from a "facility" where you could be a well respected man, by violence or by wisdom. Sudden you are back on the street, and then: ??? If you were convicted for dealing dope, some of those guys had earned a fortune, and once you have the MONEY SMELL, it must be real hard to find a job.
It is like being "hospitalised for a drinking problem. When I was in hospital, on the same floor, no doors, if I wanted to have a smoke (bad habit I know, but there it is a form of a social life), I had to go 100 meter, to go for a chat/smoke. Most of people on Neurology are there because they got a stroke, so most of them didn't leave their room. I joined the psychiatric side, they had activities organised by nurses, like a quiz, or a card game. I never tell what my occupation is/was, but if they ask me, I am not a liar. These people are also smart enough to see that I am stupid enough, to answer a question. THERE too, you will see an hierarchy. At first some were afraid to loose their position, nut that, easy to solve. I just noticed that those people feel better in the smoking room, more open not difficult if you see your shrink once in a week for 30 minutes.

paulbigyummy: Thanks to become a "chordian". We love musicians, and young or old, this site is a give and get site.
Better is to tell: we can learn a lot from new members, and we try to answer everything. We have an "everything can" site: CHAT CORNER.
I noticed something about OVATION and an Electric.
Can I ask what kind of guitar this Ovation is, and your electric guitar (brand) + the music you play?
I have in fact too many guitars, but 75% are collectible.
I also agree with James, Jerome, Mixter. For me, writing songs, with only 3 chords is still real "craftsmanship ."One of the best examples is BOB DYLAN. I play now for 30 years, and my progression has increased at least 50% thanks to CHORDIE. Reading, asking and use the information. I love 3-4 chords to make a song, but in fact I use more chords, 5 or 6.
To find chords, there are some very good sites like www.chordbook.com

When I still had my OVATION, some was at my place, a 10 years old kid, picking up my guitar (he loved guitars) and walked straight to his parents asking them if he could get that guitar, and shouting: LOOK MAM A REAL OVULATION. (no joke, but true). They didn't know much about guitars, but the kid did. Still a great word.
So I am sure you recognise situations like this, and I hope to share this, in fact brandnew topic.

AM I ALONE WITH THIS OPINION????
That ugly long carrot, is to dumb to live, but is smart enough to earn a lot money.
How many people does she need to remove her make-up and how many people and time it takes to start "working" on her? She is and will always be ugly. If you should see her without make-up, together with her natural hair colour, I am convinced that people will just look, because she is tall, skinny and definitely not a beauty.

I have just ordered and received some books, like the 2008 vintage guitarbook. Since I am no reader at all, and when I read the newspaper, it takes me 10 minutes to read AND know everything.
But, very interesting to, I am obsessed by languages, the origin of the modern languages.

Topic: we know : MYSPACE & YOUTUBE. But what is the difference between them? (3 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
These two sites are almost a part of our lifes, and just because of this it isn't very obvious to know the "real" difference. Speaking about MUSIC
YouTube has a social networking component, because its users can share playlists and other information. A lot of songs, events are on youtube, even guitars (can be used to compare different brands) and they work a lot with video.
On the other hand MySpace: News Corp. designated Google as the search engine for MySpace, which is very important, because here in Europe, almost everybody uses google.
Another fact I found is:
YouTube entered ComScore’s top 50 sites for the first time, hitting 16 million visitors - an increase of 20% since June. That might explain the recent outage, which was blamed on a database failure (see YouTube Down). Meanwhile, MySpace Video doubled its traffic in the same month, receiving 20 million visitors. Besides those two BIG SHOTS, you have yahoo-video, google video, but they remain small players.
I surfed around for quit a time now, and my question is not answered asI would like.
So, guys, what is your opinion about these sites?

Re: HE STOOPID (3 replies, posted in Guitars and accessories)
I believe the fact that using a certain brand of strings, SAME SIZE (the strings on my Martin D-1, are pretty heavy.
As 25Frankster, I have a bunch of Martin guitars too. Except for the D-1, they all are here without preamps. Having these guitars is no option to compare, because they are all different.
I have a Martin D-1, a D-15 (beautiful and simple 100% mahagony) a D-1 12 string, HD-28 and top of the bill a Martin D-45V, I don't know the difference between a D-45, and a D-45V.
I have some Gibsons too. A GIBSON SJ-200 MONTANA GOLD (I AM OBSESSED TO COMPARE THIS GUITAR WITH AN EPIPHONE AJ-200), A GIBSON DOVE, and 2 HUMMINGBIRDS (also obsessed to compare them with an EPIPHONE. I know, I am blessed to have such a diversity, and to be able to collect these guitars. It's a pretty long story how I started my collection, but what played an important facor was the $ versus € using eBay. So I have now 2 points.
- different sound ACOUSTIC, using different brands.
- difference in sound between my Gibson collection compared to Epiphone, same guitars.
What I discovered is that you can find a lot on myspace and/or youtube.
