Hi Beamer....oh yes I intend to use the distortion and gain function to it's limit. But not on acoustic guitar! That bit of gain and overdrive is enough to get heard during a solo without changing amp settings. I like my acoustic clear with a little reverb and a nice chorus, and this beauty has that in spades.

i know, every time i get a new toy i have to rave about it? so....i saw what appeared to be an absolute bargain on amazon .... donner alpha cruncher, it has just 3 FX; echo/ reverb, chorus and distortion. it's made i guess for electric guitars and though i haven't used it that much yet on electric, it sounds great. so i thought i'd try it on my acoustics and yep, it also sounds terrific on them, love the chorus and adjustable echo/reverb.
just thought i'd mention it.

Who names these birds? We have crow, robin, thrush and some tits...the avian variety of course. The most exciting name here for me is the pied wagtail or shigldigwt in Welsh that translated goes shake your butt, actually it's tail but that's not so funny.
Did you name Harold after king Harold? Apparently his last words were...awtch! I've got a splinter in my finger, I suppose that's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick...? Toowit towoo!

Thank you, William. The English speaking world just grew larger for me, and it seems to be full of people with a silly sense of humour, just like me.

Jim.
Her actual reason for crying was most likely something totally mundane....like she lost her umbrella. Your story adds a dimension. Maybe she was thinking....ooops I don't have enough money to pay for my meal, I'm going to ruin my new nail job washing dishes...lol. so your story makes her look more interesting.

Funny how there are so many things you mean to get round to but never get there?
I meant to send Bill an email too, and never got round to it.....later?
I have put some of my cassettes onto CD, as you say time consuming, so only the best ones, my old LP's are too scratched, please don't tell me there are programs that can take away scratches...they can't stop the needle from jumping.
glad to hear Bill and Dondra are doing fine

the best writers of songs or novels can put down in words what others can only assume is mundane and everyday. Jim i read this song very, very slowly without trying to put a tune or rhythm to it, that will come later. i am so proud to say that Jim Kenyon is a personal friend of mine, one day my friend you will be up there amongst the great lyricists. this song proves that. i always say....say what you see, and you said what you saw

Re: Listening VS Playing (10 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
I can spend between 2 to 3 hours playing when gigging. Possibly more than that if I'm recording, mixed with bass drums and keyboards. Otherwise lately it's been stolen moments while I'm waiting for her shadylip before going out.
I find I'm listening to a lot of music when I've had enough playing. YouTube videos of my favourite bands playing live, headphones up loud trying to figure out what chords they're playing. And of course on the way to shows, CD up loud...

Your friend gave you those beauties for services rendered? Who did you have to kill??? My jaw dropped at the first guitar, I was drooling at the balalaika and I had to wipe the drool off my screen by the time I got the the Kingsman.
Give your friend my name if he needs anything done in the UK. Lol

Yep, that's an upgrade plus VAT. I'm not on FB so I can't tell if it's a mixer, mixer amp or recording studio? I see there are 8 channels, are they all stereo or mono and pan? I bet the multi FX can curl your hair? Enjoy

A bridge; it's where a song takes on a bridging section which goes from the verse to the chorus or to a solo maybe even a change of key. You'll hear them in most songs especially country tracks. The famous one is where George Harrison and Eric Clapton were writing a song and Harrison wrote "bridge" and Clapton thought that was the title, but Harrison's writing was so bad he thought it was "Badge". Ha ha

hi Jim, running it through in my head felt like more of a soft rock rhythm similar to "is this love?" by either whitesnake or rainbow? just the rhythm not the melody line. i like it and when i get the chance i shall give it a go on the guitar.
just had a quick strum and i find it works perfectly, your frazing is reminiscent of the travelling wilburys so it's an automatic like from me.
i feel it might benefit from a bridge, maybe alter a verse to suit?

As the guy on catch fraze says...say what you see. We get a lot of crows and seagull's, ugly birds that make a lot of noise and mess, always after I've washed the car!
Thanks TF and you Jim for giving it a read and comment.

A man's got to do what a man's got to do..... specially if you're getting the paid.
I did a bit of soldering Sunday now it works fine again.
It's funny though, I seem to get some problem or other everytime I play there. I had a great crowd which helped a lot

Topic: gigs (4 replies, posted in Chordie's Chat Corner)
i haven't played a gig for a few months, i just haven't felt like it. anyway, i played one saturday, and maybe this should be in Beamers "don't you hate it" thread, so i get to the venue, everyone's watching the world cup so i have to be quiet and not get in the way of the TV. eventually the game ends and i can set up and do my sound check.
pa...ok
mic...ok
backing tracks...ok
guitar...guitar? switch on amp...nothing. pull leads out, put them back in...nothing OMG!
so i pull out my guitar to FX lead and plug directly guitar to amp...working...relief. tried the other lead again...nothing.
so, i had to play all night without chorus, reverb/echo and most importantly sustain and distortion which i use to boost the guitar volume for solo's. so country songs were ok but rock songs sounded flat to me.
i muddled through but the upshot of it was that i got my mojo back and now i'm hungry for more gigs.
go figure?

I don't know why all my poems are on the humorous side of late but here's another one.
Sad Bird Singing.
I heard a bird singing.
Looking for a mate.
He didn't have those pretty feathers.
And his singing wasn't great.
That didn't stop him trying.
Though some others thought he should.
He sat upon my window sill.
And sang, because he could.
Pretty birds flying by.
Paid my bird no heed.
Next day when I looked for him.
He'd taken of his leave.
I'd like to think he found a mate.
Nested and made eggs.
His DNA made ugly chicks.
Plain feathers and spindly legs.
Well I think it's funny....fairly funny?
