Alvee 33 is 100% correct, this is a "must know" question. I should say, give us some titles, just to know what you have to offer, titles, guitar lists, songbooks???

Acapo, I also don't see any harm, we did it most on Status Quo songs, if you saw those two in the seventies, with their long hair (still don't understand that their hear didn't mix up together), it was a real fashion, and they were very popular here, to play "airguitar" acting like the real Quo, and Alvee I think we did it to impress others. Some people could dance in a splendid way, and this is quit similar if you see how birds can dance to conquer the heart of a female. A lot of males are more beautiful, like a peacock, a pheasant.

It had something, seeing a drum solo for 20 minutes, see the BICEPS size of the late "BONZO" Bonham, if you have the last DVD already a few years ago.
The strange thing about this DVD is that you can clearly see that Jimmy Page was producing this.
ON 30 minutes:
- 15 minutes PAGE
- 9 minutes PLANT
- and 3 minutes for Jones and Bonham (he seemed to have a Keith Moon character)
Watch that video, or dvd. But I don't expect tha those times will return, OR maybe no band takes the risk????

The last 2 pair of (the thin strings) are tuned exactly the same B and E, NO DIFFERENCE, only the 4x2 strings are different, but E still remains E, the big string= E, the thin = E, as jerome told and rmancc

Zurf, about finger picking I am not a hero in this style, also another problem is HATING THEORY, probably the origin of playing not bad and not good but since begin, 2007 I really made a lot of progress thanks to a lot of people here. CAN YOU or better WILL YOU be able to change your way of playing guitar, using, concerning me and having a style on my own, like I wrote in a topic of you?
It is such an habit, and about playing time, some people tell you that practice is the key, I agree, but there is still the "fun factor" who is important, knowing that I never will be a professional, which doesn't mean that I don't have to play not following certain rules. I play some days 15 minutes other days 90 minutes

Well Badeye, since I discovered CHORDIE, I have to say that my progress has improved a lot. I am a lot more fascinated, playing guitar. If I see NOW what I learned on 10 months, I can't believe the progress I made. By reading topics, writing topics, reading answers AND listening to advises it is as told almost unbelievable. I even learned some finger picking, but I still remain to much, a "plectrum" player, having an own style. My style is difficult to explain. I use many chords, switching fast from 1 chord to another, I am trying to change this, and the result is 2 songs in stead of one, BUT I STILL USE the same style. I don't know how to call this style, it is a combination of rhythm, and riffs and licks, and strumming, I block the strings in 50% of what I play, giving me, this is not objective, a special approach. But I like it, in combination with licks , strum-block-strum-strum-block. I know you asked "since a year or two", but I wanted you to know that even playing since 30 years, I made more progress now, than the last 5 years. I agree practice is the key, but it can work in "reverse too"making you (in fact me) in stead of loving to play, an aversion to play. I need still to find a balance, and I learned 1 thing, don't cross your limit. Today, maybe 30 minutes, tomorrow maybe 90 minutes.
VERY INTERESTING TOPIC, I HOPE TO SEE A LOT OF ANSWERS, so this is my answer badeye.

I can refer to the Shadows, the Ventures, some decades ago.
Do you think that there is still a market for this kind of music? I love to play guitar, and like most of you chordians, playing since years, you develop an own style, playing guitar.
- Acoustic: is there a lot of difference in what you play on electric guitar
- Electric: same as acoustic, is there another approach to play a song?

I am a "melody" man, and not a "lyrics" writer, even in my own language. I prefer a melody, using sometimes (in fact often) NON COHERENT LYRICS.

I always add: you have to know a melody. Knowing a melody is making it quit easier. I also never followed music class, and will it still be useful, being almost 52, and playing since 30 years?
One of my points is: the better you play, the better you can find the right chords listening to a song, and improving your skills by play-a-long.

Last Rebel, I always say that history repeats herself. If you start thinking about religion, you get lost. Most wars were and still are about religion. See Kosovo and Serbia, on an evening they play card games, and one day later, they kill their friends. If you see the Muslims (extremists) they are doing the same as the Christians did 400 years ago.
This is really scary, fighting for GOD, who is called ALLAH too. Jesus is a prophet, and a lot of what's written in the Koran, is very similar to the Holy Bible. A war, I think I will never understand.
It is very convenient for leaders to send soldiers, I would love to see a cage fight between leaders, no rules, and the fight ending when one of them is dead.

Last Rebel, I don't why Christmas is so important. It is a fact that some people get "aggressive" by reading this. When someone dies, they send a letter to the family and friends of the deceased and if there name is not in that "already sad" letter, or not in a correct ranking, they are angry.
I am a Christian, maybe not practising, but too much events are making profit using these days as an excuse. I agree, people selling Christmas products, have to make a living too. But, as far as I remember, wasn't it Jesus, who "removed" traders out of a temple? I don't speak like "in our time", those days are gone, and we have to adapt, our kids are spoiled too much, can you blame them, it is all a kind of combination: publicity, marketing....And those Gospel Songs, it is strange, for us, in Europe, because we don't have this phenomenon. A swinging and rocking priest, who sings (?) a line and followed by hallelujahs and praise the Lord. Isn't that a typical USA tradition?
On 6th December, we have also a big day for kids: St. Nicholas, and your Santa is in fact the same as ours on 06/12. The Santa is busy to become a real worldwide business, in our country too and for the parents, it start to be an extremely expensive month, here: St Nicholas + Santa+New year.

One example: Ten Years After, with Alvin Lee "I'm going home" the solo and the way he plaid it was really fabulous.
Today, I don't find solo's or maybe short ones.
One of the best parts, watching a band, was the INTRODUCTION of the members, like on the drums John Doe, followed by 15 minutes drumming, on the bass guitar Joe Smith, also followed by a solo, and on guitar, gitaardocphil, playing the solo for about 15 minutes.

Dan, I didn't know that site, and if you go to esnip.com, it is confusing, but I am really glad it's a nice site. One thing I still don't understand is the way of listening.to your songs.

Listen to the advise of SouthPaw, he is the right man on the right place.
All I know is that there are, included in some magazines you get a CD with an opportunity to play.
I am not sure if you can start from a certain song, deleting, or at least trying to minimalise "the extra's" using an equaliser, or a PC program.
There is Band-in-a box, and audacity.

ian, this happens quit often, in the search for a song in particular. I found a lot of songs, performed on myspace and youtube, and this can be very useful sometimes. You forgot the melody, or a part of the song, or the performer.

I mentioned that it wouldn't surprise me that there are people in the USA, named head.
I looked, it took me a while, but AFFIRMATIVE, there are at least 30 family names HEAD.
So I really should be concerned to use a common name: DICK. And now ladies and gentlemen, here he is the famous D.Head. Check it out, I can't remember the site, but I googled using family names like HEAD.
Also in the USA, a lot of women take the name of their husband, and they loose probably their own identity, or am I wrong?
I always have fun with a certain planet, in other languages they haven't the accent to speak about the same planet.
Bonedaddy, what you tell is remarkable, I travelled once from Chicago to New Orleans, by car, also Nashville and Memphis. VERY STRANGE FOR US: Somewhere in MISSOURI you really notice a Northern American accent and 5 miles more to the south, a Southern Accent.

I found this always a strange phenomenon. Christmas is already remarkable like in WW1, Germans and The Allied forces, had a "cease fire", and they were both singing Christmas songs, to fight again the day after.
Songs: have an important role, music is as far as I think the most strong "language", worldwide.
What is in your opinion, so important about Christmas versus Songs, or Christmas songs.
FAKE and GOOD FOR BUSINESS, or REAL AND COMING FROM THE HEART

aj1 I agree with you. An own song, is still very personnel, and I do agree that such a book can be helpful, but it ain't writing a song. In fact I have NO RIGHT TO JUDGE A BOOK, MEDICAL PROBLEM, if you don't know what it means. I compare this ALWAYS with a Catholic Priest, who is not allowed to marry, but who teaches about a matrimony. Giving critics is normal these days: you write a book, comment and critics, you play in a movie, same problem, you write a song, they will judge you too, and they start talking about the "meaning of your lyrics". That can give us real funny situations, like A WHITER SHADE OF PALE" by PROCOL HARUM. They searched and searched, even giving comments, on lyrics who are totally "insane", these lyrics meant nothing. What about Obladi-Oblada?

About songwriting: I love to see and even better to hear other songs written by CHORDIANS.
As for me the last days I am busy with what started as ONE song, will end up in TWO different songs. The cause: a typical Docphil problem, too many chords, and changes.
I hope to post some songs on myspace. They finally explained me more about my recording "studio", a Boss BR 600, 8 tracks, a lot of virtual tracks, COSM, effects and different amps, including a rhythm section.
I am just not in the mood, I suffer to much, and this can be GOOD or BAD. Feeling bad can result in a song you would never write when feeling good.
Still I prefer to write songs with a clean "head". I have 4-5 songs, unfinished, but I put them in WORD, so it is easier to correct, adapt, change chords.
I just don't know HOW TO PUT A SONG with chords and chord diagrams in here.

ShadyWilbury, I have noticed that your taste and conviction is similar to mine. George is one of the most underestimated song writers, as guitar player too. Do you think that Eric Clapton would have played with George when he should be a lousy guitar player?
About a hard topic, it is a very difficult one, their songs are evolving every album. It is IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPARE "She loves you, yeah, yeah" with a song like "LET IT BE" That song is on one of the lists called the best Beatle song. Boxer you really did me a favour answering here, because I have the same feeling. About albums, most people write the "White Album" after asking the best Beatles Album. The beatles are for me not ONE band, but a dozen of bands, just see their evolution. I really don't know other groups who can tell this. The WHO, is still the WHO, and back in the sixties, you were or a BEATLES or a STONES fan. The STONES have great songs, but you can't compare them with the Beatles

Tibernius, I don't know about the £ value, but the € is so strong that 10$=7€, which makes it very interesting to buy for us. I don't know about this year, all I know was that a Gibson Les Paul Standard, found on ebay, for 1000$ it was quit easy, because that price in $, was almost identical in Euro, all included: purchase, transport, custom taxes. This was 1000€. Go and find a guitar of this price. Can you believe this: a Gibson SG classic:
577.00 USD = 393.895 EUR or in Pound 281.752 GBP. If I should have more money now, I would go on my own to the USA, and both times I went there, I came back with a SJ-200 Montana Gold, and 1 year later a Martin D-45V (Nashville: GRUHN) I knew the serial number of the D-45V, and just asked a friend that he wrote me a certificate that he sold to me THAT guitar, with the correct serial number. And since I need to have a wheelchair (I can walk, but bigger distances are exluded, you see what a car crash can do, they "blocked" my foot, so I can't bend it, and I walk, and since that intervention, the pain in my back is unbearable, 1 vertebra "exploded in 4-5 pieces, and 1 piece is pushing against my spinal chord, feeling that it is getting worse every year.
Sitting in that wheel chair the customs here asked if that guitar came from the USA, my response was yes, it is one of the few things I can do. NO PROBLEM.

I know that such a book exists. Will it add an extra value too? Making a song has to come from the heart. I believe that you can find a lot of useful information, and I'll try googling: making a song.

First let me thank you.
About the different "ancestors" and immigration, well this was one of the "tracks" I followed, and mentioned. The only common factor are the FAST FOOD restaurants. I wrote about Chicago, New Orleans and that's a food paradise there in New Orleans.
I drove that year from Chicago, over Memphis and Nashville to New Orleans.
Most of villages (even with 1000 people) you will always find something, like Kentucky Fried Chicken
Burgerking, McDonald's, some "RED LOBSTERS", there you feel a connection with us Europeans.
There were only 2 countries famous for their food: Belgium, France.
What's going on now: the UK, the NETHERLANDS are having great restaurants. And yes, I was convinced of the fact. There are about 50.000.000 people, with German ancestors, even Paris Hilton, Sandra Bullock. It is amazing what you can find preparing a topic or answer to other
topics. Also a similar amount have French ancestors. And only those population with, UK, Ireland Scotland are huge, add the people with Spanish Background, and you have what you answered.
I love the TEXAS mentality, it is in some aspects, like South Africa: BBQ spicy, and I have been so many times there, that I almost forgot what they eat, it will be different from area to area.
I really don't know if the Native Americans have an input. Our ancestors, a very long time ago, hunted for food, they were gone for a long time. Did you ever stood still by that fact: HOW DID THEY MADE IT BACK TO THEIR HOME? It is a fact that most women have  bad orientation, where a man has not that problem. My medical background helps me a lot on chordie, I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. Back to that trip: best experience (excluding TROTTER, and NEW ORLEANS) was the "All You Can Eat" chain. I still can't believe what I saw: a 10 year old kid, eating 3 (TREE) large Pizza's, and he went about 10 times to the soft ice machine, and a few years later they start a lawsuit, for eating to many fat, and hamburgers. It is NOT logic for an European.
Please go on with the food, there are quit a lot NON - USA members.

Well boxer, that's right. It is so obvious to use a word, that it took me by surprise.
I gave you information, not technical, I could look on the web, but personal. How do I see and feel a bridge, my impression is not so different than what James and Lena wrote.
It adds something "extra", and I use it sometimes, reason: if you play a song, I have the feeling that something doesn't sound right. I use sometimes chords, extra chords and it add something more, a kind of extra dimension, and there are some great examples, like the association with their beautiful song NEVER my LOVE. You can hear the song on youtube.
